Revised Aug 23 2012
The signals from a DIRECTV® (4) polarity SLSP-F
SlimLine® dish with SL5 LNB, DTV66E 95º dish and a
possible 6th polarity are required for multiple switches
Amplifi ers are required to increase the signal level from
the dish to feed the taps. Model SD SA-6AL-T includes
automatic gain control for a constant input to the taps.
The tap values are 16 dB, 12 dB, 9 dB and 6 dB. Model
SD MST616 tap output is 16 dB less than the input
Model SD SA-6AL amplifi ers may be spaced at (5) fl oor
increments when used with model SD MST616, SD MST612, SD MST609 and SD MST606 tap per fl oor.
The trunk level is indicated on the left and the tap level
output is indicated on the right.
Automatic gain simplifi es the design and the installation
knowing that the amplifi er output is -18 dBm when the
LED lights are Green.
DIRECTV® MULTI-TAPS
Model SD MST616, SD MST612, SD MST609 and SD MST606 multiple input taps directionally couple a
portion of trunk signals to feed single or groups of
DBS switches.

the distribuion system.
A DIRECTV AIM meter was used to confi rm signal levels
and to measure Signal to Noise Ratios.
The plot on the left is the input to the SD SA-6AL

BALUN TYPE, 250 -2150 MHZ, 2 AMP DC
BYPASS TYPE, 2 -2150 MHZ, 2 AMP DC
BALUN TYPE VS BYPASS TAPSSONORA has two ferrite based directional coupler
designs. Both designs allow up to 2 amps of DC to pass
from Output to Input and block DC from the tap port.
The (top) Balun type design is limited to 250 to 2150 MHz
because 2 amps of current will signifi cantly aff ect the
insertion loss in the 2 to 50 MHz range. This design has
the minimal insertion loss at 2150 MHz.
The (bottom) by-pass design blocks the DC from passing
through the balun and bypasses the current through a
separate inductor. This circuit would be recommended
for applications where SMATV signals would be present .
Both models have been developed with samples
available.
