Why a strike?

• 11.2% for legislators, 1.8% for educators• I-1351: suspend, amend, or send (back to voters).

Any way they do it, kids still lose on class size.• Healthcare: $200 per month less than other state

employees• Eliminate bargaining

• Nearly 85% YES vote: certs, paras and office!• 85% of members voted – more than 3800• Approved in 96 buildings/programs• Almost 50 districts have voted to strike

statewide• Mercer Island striking and marching with us

One Day Strike: Tuesday May 19

• 8:00 AM Picket at High Schools (West Seattle, Sealth, Rainier Beach, Franklin, Garfield, Roosevelt, Hale, Ballard)

• 10 AM Load buses or car pool to Seattle Center• 11:15 AM March from Seattle Center to Westlake• 12:15 – 1:30 PM Rally at Westlake• 1:30 – 2:00 PM March back to Seattle Center• Buses return to high schools

At the high schools

• Go to the high school in your zone (except Cleveland and Ingraham, go to Ballard and Franklin instead)

• Picket lines at visible points • Bring water and some food – we’ll have a few

thousand sandwiches, too.• SEA tee shirts: first come first serve• Everyone wear red

• All of these will still happen:– IB testing, Camp, Concerts, Plays, Senior night,

Athletic contests, etc.

• Certs, SAEOPs, Parapros on strike together• Year round employees (260 day SAEOPs):– Work as usual, or– Take personal leave (and join the events), or– Don’t take leave but join the strike (unpaid)

Parents and Supporters

• Distribute flyer to parents and PTSAs• Direct them to our SEA website• Welcome them to morning picket lines and to

the march and rally• Welcome to ride buses if space available• Kids are welcome to join us!
