Is a Eurasian country that stretches across the Anatolian peninsula in the Balkan region of southeastern Europe is surrounded by the Mediterranean sea.

Turkey is the successor state to the Ottoman Empire. As a

result of its location astride Europe and Asia, Turkey has come to acquire increasing strategic significance.

Turks are the largest ethnic group followed by Kurds, who are the largest of the minority groups in Turkey. The majority religion of Turkey is Islam, and the official language is the Turkish language.

Istanbul

is the largest city in Turkey and fifth largest city proper in the world with a population of 12.6 million. Istanbul is also a megacity, as well as the cultural and financial centre of

Turkey. In its long history, Istanbul has served as the capital city of the Roman Empire, the Latin Empire and the Ottoman Empire.

The city was chosen as joint European Capital of Culture for

2010. The historic areas of Istanbul were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1985.

Cappadocia

is a region in central Turkey, largely in Nevşehir Province . The name was traditionally used in Christian sources throughout history and is still widely used as an international tourism concept to define a region of exceptional natural wonders characterized by fairy chimneys (image below) and a unique historical and cultural heritage.

İskenderun is located on the Mediterranean coast on Gulf of İskenderun at the foot of the Nur Mountains. İskenderun is a busy commercial centre, the largest city in Hatay Province, surpassing the Hatay provincial seat of Antakya. The city is one of Turkey's largest ports on the mediterranean.
