New People & Planet
Group at St Faith’s The state of the environment, and
caring for it, is one of the most pressing issues in our world
today. We would like to start a
new group, People and Planet, looking at this issue and advising the church
on what we can do to respond. Our new group will pray for the world, and
seek ways to reduce our impact on the environment as a church, in our
communities and in our personal lives, and encourage others to do the
same.
If you would like to be involved with the People and Planet Group,
please contact Becca Chamberlain on 023 9200 6184, or at
Rotas! Rotas! Rotas! There are now three rotas to complete at the back of the church. There is
one for reading at the Parish Eucharist, one for reading at Evening Prayer
and the latest arrival is for taking part in the Offertory Procession. The first
two rotas are for the period from 4th August to the 27th October (the day
the clocks go back!). The Offertory Procession rota starts on the 4th Au-
gust and finishes on 13th October.
St Faith’s finances - update We are now half way through 2019, and as part of our commitment to
regularly reporting the church finances, on the page opposite you will find
the church finances for January to June this year.
Things to notice:
We are pretty much on budget so far - thank you to everyone who gives
regularly to the life of our church, though financial giving, and through
giving of your time and talents.
Most of the giving to St Faith’s comes through Standing Order or the
Parish Giving Scheme. Information about both of these is available on the
notice stand in the south porch
Our biggest expense is the Parish Share, which funds both ministry here at
St Faith’s and in the wider Church of England.
Although we are on budget, the budget is for an £18,000 deficit. In
other words, we think our expenses will be £18,000 more than our
income this year. This is because as a church community we continue to
not give enough to fund the life of our church.

New Hymn Book As we have mentioned in the past, we are planning on
purchasing a new hymn book, to replace the green New
English Hymnal, which is now not very new!
We are doing this because:
Our vision statement commits us to being a ‘progressive’
church - which means doing new things. So we want to
continue to update our music, retaining the great hymns of
the past but making the most of the great hymns and songs of
the present. C o n t i n u e d
4
We want to make sure we use inclusive language where possible (so we
don’t sing ‘men’ when we mean ‘men and women’ - do listen to Mary’s
sermon on women from a few weeks ago for more on this important area)
The good news is, we don’t need to purchase huge numbers of books,
because many people use the screen these days. So we’re going to purchase
60 copies of Ancient & Modern - Hymns and Songs for Refreshing Worship. We
know this will be enough for everyone who wants one. (The choir have been
secretly using this for a couple of years now!) This will cost us £560, and we
will take this from our reserves, as this is a key investment in the life of our
church.
The version we will be purchasing contains the words only. We know some
people also like having the music. If you would like to contribute towards
the cost of a copy or two of the melody version (which has the tune
printed), or even the SATB (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass) book, please will you let Richard Dewland know? These would not be “your” books, but
would be available as a resource for all, including you. You would contribute
the difference between the words copy and the other version i.e. £5.62 for
the melody version and £10.87 for the SATB version.
We will be purchasing the books at the end of July, so do let Richard know in
the next few weeks! His contact details are on the back of the Notes.
Games Afternoon
21st July @ 3.00pm On Sunday 21st July we
will be holding a games
afternoon for all ages.
Come and have fun play-
ing board games, or out-
door games, and much
more. Why not invite
your friends to come
along as well?
If you would like to bake a cake for the Games
Afternoon, that would be great! Please bring it
along next Sunday morning, or to the Games
Afternoon itself.

Live Nativity & Christmas Fayre in December This year we are planning on doing
something a little different with the
Christmas Fayre! In addition to some of
our usual Christmas Fayre stalls, we are
going to hold a Live Nativity. This has live
animals with Mary and Joseph, and a
journey in which guests encounter adults
dressed as shepherds, angels, and finally,
wise men on camels, each with a witty
script and plenty of banter.
This will be an opportunity to engage
people who don’t normally come to
church with the Christmas story, and is
very successful in other places. We
want to do this, because while anyone
can put on a Christmas Fayre, our
unique message as a church is the birth
of Jesus, and we want to talk about this
more.
We are in the early stages of planning
for this, but we think the Live Nativity
will take place in the church, with refreshments and stalls in the Bulson Hall at the
end.
We have applied to the Mission Opportunities Fund from the Diocese, and have be
granted £1,225 to help with the start-up
costs of the Live Nativity, which is
wonderful.
We are looking form a team of
people to organise the Live
Nativity and Christmas Fayre. If
you would be interested in helping,
then please do let Mary Kells
know.
The Live Nativity and Christmas Fayre
will be on Sunday 8th December, 1-4pm. That morning we will hold the 8am and
9.30am services, and then it will be all hands on deck for setting up the Live Nativity
in the church, ready for 1.00pm.
Please pray for this exciting new venture, and get involved if you can.

For your prayers during the next week
Collect for Sea Sunday
Eternal Lord God,
you alone have spread out the heavens and rule the raging of the sea;
bless and keep all who go down to the sea in ships;
preserve them in all dangers
and bring them in safety to the haven where they would be,
with a thankful remembrance of your mercies,
to praise and glorify your holy name;
through Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen
Collect for the 4th Sunday after Trinity
O God, the protector of all who trust in you,
without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy:
increase and multiply upon us your mercy;
that with you as our ruler and guide
we may so pass through things temporal
that we lose not our hold on things eternal;
grant this, heavenly Father,
for our Lord Jesus Christ’s sake,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen
