Continued report from Susan Lee

Somers camp was really fun, I was lucky to get picked to go to Somers camp, out of the other 100 kids who wanted to. At Somers camp I learnt a lot of new things about nature and the environment, I made heaps of new friends and I did amazing activities everyday. Some of the activities I did were the Challenge swing, boating, Flying fox and I got to care for a Guinea Pig. We also had some wonderful night act iv i t ies wh ich involved performing on stage in a concert, disco night and a campfire on the last night. I would highly recommend going to Somers camp to all my friends and family. Alysha 5AV

Middle Learning Community - 4LD

This week, 4LD have been working on descriptive language to help create visual pictures in the minds of their readers. We have learnt a lot about figurative language, such as, personification and how writers use juicy adjectives to bring a setting in a story alive. Here are some of our forest settings that we hope will bring the story alive in your mind when

you read the text.

Senior Learning Community - 5KP

On Wednesday the 20th of May, 2015, all of the grade five students from Seabrook Primary School went on an ex-cursion to The National Gallery of Victoria (NGV). We went there because our current inquiry is about art and different types of art. The central idea is ‘The Arts are a creative expression and interpretation of the world’.

When we got to Federation Square, we sat down and sketched some things that were around us while another grade five class was in the Ian Potter Centre. I sketched some trees and eating tables that were in front of me.

After we finished sketching, it was our turn to go into the Ian Potter Centre. In there, we went into different rooms and saw lots of paintings and sculptures by famous people.

Next, we went to The NGV, which is close to Federation Square. We were separated into three groups with three different tour ladies, Heather, Lyn and Rebecca. While walking around, we stopped at the 2 million dollar painting called The Weeping Woman by Pablo Picasso.. The story behind it was that the lady’s child died from bombing and she was very sad. We all sat down and tried to sketch The Weeping Woman.

My favorite paintings were the ones by John Brack because I like how he makes faces of people, and we learnt about his paintings in Art. By Jess 5KP

Divisional Cross Country

Well done to our 24 Students who participated in the Divisional Cross Country at Presidents Park

on Thursday. The conditions were fine although very windy and this did affect some runners

from all schools. We had some excellent results on the day. There were up to 40 runners in each

race and we competed against the Hobson’s Bay Districts (Altona, Spotswood, Point Cook and

Laverton).

The top 8 students in each race have qualified for the Western Region Championships at

Brimbank Park on Thursday 11th of June. 7 students have progressed to this stage which is a

fantastic effort.

Abbey G (3rd

), Taylah F (5th

) and Tara K (7th

) in the 9/10yr girls

Monique G (2nd

) and Mia F (8th

) in the 11yr girls

Tra-Mi G (7th

) in the 12yr girls

Jim B (8th

) in the 11yr boys. Jim’s effort was extra special as one of

his shoes came off with about 200-300m to go and he had to fight it

out with another competitor to the finish. He didn’t even stop and

look around for his shoe which would have cost him 8th

spot for sure.

Great spirit Jim!

Good luck to these students at the Regional competition.

Well done to all our other competitors, some who only just missed

out on the top 8. Lauren S (9th

), Clare S (10th

), Abby C (12th

), Ethan N

(13th

), Josh G (14th

), Sophie Mc (17th

), Cleo S (19th

), Braxton S &

Eloise D (20th

), Hayden L (21st), Jacob L (22

rd), Cody S

(25th

Soccer Shootout

As part of the Grade 6 Sport Leadership Team, the students ran a Soccer Shootout with the

Grade 3/4 students at recess and the Grade 5/6s at lunchtime. Students had a shot at the

goals with no goalie and if they scored a goal they progressed to round 2. Then students had

to try and shoot it past a goalie. If they made it they progressed again. Eventually they got

down to the last 3 or 4 in each group. It was a fun activity and many students turned up to

participate. The winners in each year level were:

Grade 3/4 Girls: 1st Tseyon (4HT) Grade 3/4 Boys: 1st Alex (4LD)

2nd Nuey (4RE) 2nd Harry (3KW)

3rd Billy (3SP)

Grade 5/6 Girls: 1st Meriam (6EH) Grade 5/6 Boys: 1st Athan (5EP)

2nd Victoria (5KP) 1st Steven (6MB)

3rd Lauren (6EH) 3rd Rushil (6EN)

4th Tra-Mi (6EH) 3rd Asher (5AC)

Well done to all students who had a go and to the Grade 6’s for organising and running the

event on the day.
