sean godsell architects 0 basement plan ground floor plan first floor plan roof terrace plan 0 5 10 25m site plan 0 25 50 100m concept design statement context the foreshore site is one of the most important in melbourne the triangle site should be a park that links jacka boulevard to the upper esplanade. it should have two levels of car parking underneath the park with an underground pedestrian link to the foreshore. as much as possible any conflict between pedestrians and traffic around the site should be avoided the scale of the foreshore proposal should address and handle both the triangle site and the foreshore itself the proposal should incorporate the surf life saving club and the adjoining park, playground and barbecue area to the north of the stokehouse site. the proposal should allow for staging design a giant timber pergola that incorporates as separate entities the new stokehouse restaurant, the new surf life saving club and a new public space dedicated to 'pop ups' - markets, stalls, exhibitions, performances as an extension of the existing culture of st kilda. a people's pergola. the retention of catani arch as an iconic element of the st kilda foreshore an enhancement and extension of the recently completed foreshore design that engages with the people's pergola and completes the landscaping around the north end of the stokehouse site. increased permeability and connectivity between the foreshore and the triangle site and upper esplanade stokehouse a basement level with wine and food vaults and the potential to connect to the triangle site in the future. a 'clam bake' area connected to the restaurant via the basement a ground level outdoor cafe that extends to the foreshore a smaller outdoor cafe/bar for breakfast that engages with the northern aspect a ground level casual eating/bar area reminiscent of the original restaurant a first floor fine dining/bar area reminiscent of the original restaurant that also incorporates private functions a roof terrace cafe/bar reminiscent of the original tea rooms c.1916 that includes a produce garden nooks, crannies, bolt holes and perches. balconies no higher than the ridgeline of the original building but with the ground floor level raised good green design materials/ finishes and 'feel' weathered timber like an old pier concrete, glass and steel like a durable waterfront building bay windows like an edwardian style st kilda house weatherboards to evoke memories of the recently lost building
