Future Defence recruiting and public information activities are to be aimed at overcoming public"misapprehensions" of the peacetime roles and activities ofthe three Services.

According to a government-commissioned survey. the Australian communityappreciates the needfor an errectiveDefence Force butthere is not a goodunderstanding of theServices' peacetimeroles and activities.

The Minister forDefence, Mr D. J.Killen., has received thefinal report on the survey of the "Australiancommunity's attitudetowards the DefenceForce as an employer".

The survey wasconducted by the Australian NationalOpinion Polls in MayIJune 1980.

WRETC Marilyn Walker wa.<lparticularly prominent for NAVYwith her accurate long sbots.

NAVY combined well with Ugbtzone defence and some goodattacking moves.

In the secood half, ARMYhegan very confidently and pIIt upa 16-point lead after 10 minutes.

SWR Osbourne never stoppedtrying in both attackand defence.

WRETC Walker made the mostof her opporturutie:s and Wa.<l a lineplayer inall.ack, scoring l%points.

In the men's, ARMY provea tooSIrOOg for RAA~·.

On the second day, NAVYplayed RAAF in what tUI'llO'!d nut10 be a very close game.

NAVY made an excelltnt startto the game leading 15-1 inUle firstfive minutes of the game.

However, RA...F managed tofight their way back to a two-pointlead at half·time, n.3lI.

The close~S'.i of scores in thelim half certainly selthe patternfor the next half of the game.

It was goal for goal throughout, with N...VY despo:n.tely trying 10blidge the gap. However, RAAFstood firm, repelling many N'"VYattacks.

SMNMEO Smythe was veryquick, despite a couple of badtumbles.

Best players for NAVY wereRid< Smythe and Pollock.

Support for these twooutstanding performances wasgiven by PItil Martin and ...rtieKalnins.
