Fueling the futureof the offshore industry

GE’s SeaSmart Offshore Package™ is a plug-and-play gas turbine solution for mechanical drive or power generation in the most challenging offshore environments. Every generation of SeaSmart is a direct result of in-depth focus groups with senior engineering teams from our customers around the world. They cover everything from the operating implications of different well fluid mixtures, to layout restrictions of various rig and ship types, to specific objectives for power, mechanical drive, emissions and maintenance — any conceivable aspect can be introduced. We then synthesize feedback and data from the separate customer sessions and explore system-wide possibilities to achieve the collective goals.

The latest package is our most highly integrated one yet, with so much pre-assembly completed in our factory with unparalleled quality metrics, that installation and commissioning is faster than ever — typically less than 14 weeks. It also delivers higher availability and long-term

efficiency through a wide range of enhancements including new modular maintenance features and our latest real-time diagnostics capabilities.

The optimized design has fully integrated auxiliaries and compact on-skid controls, resulting in the smallest SeaSmart footprint yet. It’s also the lightest — we’ve eliminated significant tonnage through expanded use of advanced composite materials with proven corrosion resistance.

We’ve combined all these advantages with a wider range of customization options to improve overall operability and performance for each installation’s unique demands. Like every generation of SeaSmart, this one is even smarter than the last.

Continuing evolutionthat’s smarter every time

Faster installationThe complete package is designed for single-lift installation, which cuts installation time by about 30%. Everything is pre-assembled, factory tested and verified before delivery — that includes all electronics, controls and other auxiliary skids (such as liquid fuel and water wash skids). The modularized design also enhances operability and maintenance performance.

Better fit Instead of steel, our new filter house is made of advanced composite materials proven in the aerospace and nautical industries. This significantly reduces weight and enables customization of the design for particularly compact areas. This major advance means SeaSmart is now more widely available for offshore vessels where filter house size has been a limiting factor in the past. The new filter house is also fully repairable on site and the materials have excellent fire-retardant properties.

Localized controlA pre-assembled, local control room has been added to the package. It contains all the electronics, controls and HMI necessary to operate the unit. Formerly, these were located in a separate control room elsewhere on the vessel. But now, full control is within the SeaSmart footprint, so everything is easier — installation, startup, operation and maintainability.

Adaptation & innovation

From each generation of SeaSmart to the next, we are truly delivering bigger things in smaller and smarter packages.

Size and weight are critical factors offshore, so we continually explore new ways to reduce them. Advanced composite materials are key to both the reduced package weight and increased operating efficiency through minimized vibration, power consumption and other advantages. As we carry each generation’s strongest design traits forward, we also inject our latest rigorously tested and proven technologies so maintainability, availability and performance keep improving too.

Enhanced modularization increases maintenance and upgrade ease as well as customization opportunities. The optimized turbine enclosure simplifies access for faster, regular generator maintenance, easier turbine replacement and upgrades as technologies advance. Various other features like 4H lock-out, 8k BSI, fast turbine exchange and on-line washing system contribute to simplified maintenance as well as improved ergonomics and safety.

Improved flowThe enhanced inlet plenum design achieves smoother air suction with less turbulence for overall optimized flow. It is built with composite materials for significant weight reduction, and is fully compatible with existing GT inlet intakes.

On-line washingThis system provides one-minute daily wash cycles to maintain the compressor for optimized efficiency.

Electric startingThis system increases gas turbine flexibility for BSI and hot shutdowns, eliminating the need for slow-turning device.

Compact filter house & inlet systemOur new HEPA filtration system is 99.5% efficient at MPPS and extremely compact for significant weight and cost savings. The E12 HF pre-filters are completely sealed and hydrophobic, eliminating 97% of water content so no demister is required. In addition to improving efficiency, the new filter system design decreases emissions and particle deposits.

Even the structure has been redesigned to improve overall performance. Our latest filter house is five tons lighter than the previous version, thanks to advanced new composite materials that complement the new inlet system design for further improvement.

Fully integrated systemsSeaSmart brings the idea of integration to a whole new level. Synthetic oil system, mineral oil system, starting system and remote I/O are all on skid. The new, fully integrated control room eliminates the need for a separate control room and external connections — and it has been repositioned in the latest package from the side to the front for further streamlining and improved access. The benefits are widespread throughout installation, right down to the final details — with 60% less cable laying and 40% less interconnecting piping.

Flexibility at the coreFlexibility and assembly leadtime are both optimized with a standard base frame design that accommodates various configuration options. The package can include either an 20-34 MW LM2500/+/+G4 or a PGT25/+/+G4, each with two configurations to choose from. Then, there are four value-adding options available:

LM2500This marine gas turbine is a simple-cycle, two-shaft, high-performance engine that’s easy to install and maintain. It consists of a gas generator, power turbine, fuel and lube oil pumps, fuel control and speed governing system, associated inlet and exhaust sections, lube and scavenge systems, as well as controls and devices for starting and monitoring engine operation.

The simple modular design with split compressor casing maximizes in-situ maintenance capabilities such as in-place blade and vane replacement, in-place hot section maintenance and accessible external fuel nozzles. Other features include corrosion-resistant materials, minimized size, weight and space requirements per horsepower, as well as high thermal efficiency, low fuel and airflow per horsepower.

SeaSmart Offshore Package is compatible with DF DLE retrofit.

PGT25+G4This 34 MW gas turbine consists of an enhanced LM2500+ G4 gas generator coupled with a two-stage, high-speed power turbine module. It delivers high efficiency and reliability, fuel flexibility and low emissions, and power increases of 10–20% across a wide range off-ISO conditions.

The turbine’s 6,100 rpm design enables direct coupling with driven equipment to improve overall efficiency and availability. Blade and stationary vane airfoil adjustments increase mass flow in the gas generator. The HPT has blade cooling improvements and material upgrades for higher temperatures, while changes to the compressor discharge pressure seal optimizes rotor thrust balance. For DLE applications, upgraded combustor heat shields enable field replacement and easier maintenance.
