When American vocal and instrumental duo Richard and Karen Carpenter burst onto the scene in 1970 with hits “Close to You” and “We’ve Only Just Begun,” their fresh and distinctive sound captivated the nation. Among the best-selling artists of all time, their music still epitomizes the best of our culture: modern and traditional, wholesome and sage.

The Richard and Karen Carpenter Performing Arts Center celebrates the legacy of our founding benefactors by presenting emerging artists, established acts, and legendary entertainers from around the world in an engaging mix of music, dance, and other creative performances. A permanent exhibit of the Carpenters’ awards and memorabilia—iconic photographs, hit arrangements, original instruments, and more—are on display in our lobby for every performance and by appointment.
