Borderline Theatre

The Chooky Braeby D C Jackson

It’s Christmas day in Stewarton and Irene Gordon’s struggling to get in the festive spirit. Her 18 year old

daughter Norma’s just had a baby, her ex-husband Gordon’s just had a stroke and her eldest Barry’s having a

break down. Even the Dr Who Christmas special is disappointing. If this was a wonderful life she would receive

some angelic intervention - instead she gets Rab McGuire, a gift-wrapped male sex aid and an escaped chicken

that won’t be stuffed. A new play about love, duty and free range fowl.

As funny as The Wall, as moving as The Ducky - the final chapter ofThe Stewarton trilogy.

A Promised Land

A Promised Land is a story of freedom and captivity,

loyalty and love, political coercion and personal

self-sacrifice. It revolves around the true story of

Dumfriesshire born Jane Haining , ‘the Scottish

Schindler’, who saved many Jewish children from

the fate she was to suffer herself in the gas chambers

of Auschwitz.

Not without irony or humour, this is a play about

hope and reconciliation which raises many issues of

relevance today in a challenging way through a

controversial story.

Such a Bloke is a brand new solo choreographed by award winning Edinburgh based Australian

Choreographerr Janis Claxton. A dance theatre piece influenced by a personal viewpoint on the pros and cons

of being a bloke involved in the dance industry, Such a Bloke, is a mixture of Claxton’s fluid style, met with the

robustness of Mills’ hip hop background.

A hit during the Fringe in 2009 and fusing dance, theatre, film and animation, Watch IT! Takes a close look at

relationship we form with our television. Covering the banal to the surreal, it touches on aspects of how TV

Open Book Theatre Company presents

The Tobacco Merchant’s LawyerWritten by Iain Heggie

Directed by Liz Carruthers

Starring Benny Young

From 1780, a quintessential piece of Glasgow in 2010. In the Merchant City Glasgow is booming but the

American war is looming. The city’s wealth is dependent on American tobacco. Will the great port survive?

This pressing question is NOT addressed by Enoch Dalmellington, resident of Virginia Street. He is more

concerned about marrying off his dreich, pious, humourless daughter Euphemia, being able to afford his pew

at the Tron Kirk and what to do about Mistress Zapata’s scurrilous predictions about Glasgow in 2010.
