SEASON OF PREMIERESIt has always been my dream as ballet director to design a season

wherein all new productions are absolute world premieres. Not only for the obvious reasons – uniqueness, originality and as a gift for the audience that is going to see pieces especially created for our company – but first and foremost because of what it means to my dancers. All of our season will be created for them, for their personalities, their capacities, their talents – and this is one of the greatest presents for a dancer. Apart from this overall concept it is my aim to refer to new formats and to continue my personal quest as choreographer.

MONADE CHOREOGRAPHIES BY MAURO BIGONZETTI AND GOYO MONTERO (world premiere)

Performance Days: 13., 15., 19., 22., 26., 29. December 2016; 13., 15., 20., 26. January 2017

As important example for this change stands our first production of the season with the title “Monade” that is going to be a double feature with orchestra for the first time in our company-history. It contains firstly a creation by celebrated choreographer Mauro Bigonzetti, new director of La Scala Milan. We already had the chance to cooperate with him within our production “Zweiheit” for which he entrusted us with his piece “Cantata”. This time he will create a piece to the exquisite music by Ottorino Respighi.

The second part is a personal wish come true, a project that I have nourished for years, namely to carry out a piece with choir and orchestra, using Bach’s Cantatas as musical base. In addition to the always valuable co-operation with the orchestra, we now encounter the choir, for a work that is especially based on the cross-over teamwork and the exchange of the discipline / fields.

DON QUIJOTEDANCE PIECE BY GOYO MONTERO (world premiere)

Our second production is a project which I let grow for several years – my personal perspective on one of the most inspiring personalities in world literature, a universal character: Don Quijote. Let me only say so much: I will set the piece to a new score by Owen Belton, meanwhile one of my regular companions. This will be a further step into a direction that we took already in the past season with “Latent”. Both pieces have the topic of madness in common and even though they are completely inde-pendent of each other, they are as communication vessels within my deve-lopment as a choreographer.

MADE FOR US II

CHOREOGRAPHIES BY JEROEN VERBRUGGEN AND JIRI BUBENICEK(world premiere)

The third production will be the second chapter of our series “Made for us” that we started three years ago with choreographies by Douglas Lee and Cayetano Soto. This new chapter includes creations by Jeroen Ver-bruggen and Jiri Bubenicek, choreographers of highest esteem, we are happy and honored to have them with us.

We complete this season with the revivals of “Kammertanz” and “Cyrano” and aim to present a season to you rich in dreams for our company and – as I hope – attractive and diverse for our audience.

During his career as soloist, Jeroen Verbruggen has worked with Royal Ballet Flanders and Les Ballet de Monte Carlo amongst others; since then he started an impressive career also as choreographer, creating dance pieces for companies such as „Les Ballets de Monte Carlo”, “Nutcracker” for “Le Ballet de Grand Theatre de Genève”, “National Dance Company Wales, “Ballet Flanders” and “Ballet National de Marseille”.

Jiri Bubenicek has been first soloist with Hamburg Ballett under the direction of John Neumeier for many years. Furthermore he has cooperated with numerous renowned International companies, amongst others Opéra National de Paris. In 2006 he joined Semperoper Ballett Dresden as first soloist. His achievements won him several awards, for example Prix Benois de la Danse 2002 as best dancer. Lately „Dance for you“ nominated him best dancer of the year 2014. Jiři Bubeniřek nowa-days works intensely as choreographer, amongst others with New York City Ballet, Zürich Ballett, Hamburg Ballett, Semperoper Ballett Dresden.
