True God and

True

Man

Last week’s Gospel presented a picture of Jesus in his humanity, alone in the

wilderness and wrestling with human fear and temptation.

This week, Jesus is presented in his divinity, full of God’s glory. The Church

has taught since earliest days that Jesus was both fully human and fully divine

but grappled for centuries with what that meant. It was the cause of some divi-

sion: some denied his humanity; others his divinity. From a long process of

refinement emerged the central truth that in Jesus Christ, God’s Son became

flesh and suffered and died for the salvation of the world. Christians believe

that Christ is the definitive revelation of God. Our clearest insight into the mys-

tery of God and our strongest hope for union with God is Jesus Christ, true

God and true man.

This is my Son, the beloved; listen to him. from: ‘ The Summit’ February 2015

PAGE 3 SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT YEAR B SEASONS

Information Night “Living the Gospel

Message”

The St Vincent de Paul Society will be hosting an in-

formation night “Living the Gospel Message” in the Un-

dercroft on Monday 2nd March commencing at

7.30pm. This will be followed by our scheduled Con-

ference meeting.

What can living the gospel message do for you?

Ask any Vincentian and they will tell you about the

satisfaction they get from pursuing the edicts of Jesus

in relation to the poor and disadvantaged. Studies

have shown the effects that helping others has on our

own emotional stability. Helping people through their

difficult times also helps us deal problems that might

arise in our own lives.

Launching New Meeting Arrangements

The Conference meeting to be held in conjunction

with this information night marks the start of new

alternating meeting arrangements designed to enable

people, unable to attend daytime meetings, to partici-

pate in the work of the Society. In future, the alter-

nating fortnightly meetings will scheduled for 9.30am

and 7.30pm respectively.

Parish Pastoral Leadership Team At this month’s PPLT meeting we –

reviewed the Parish Meeting

discussed the upcoming Stewardship Campaign

discussed the renovations to the Parish Com-

munity Centre to comply with OHS require-

ments

looked at how the Parish Pastoral Plan is going

discussed ideas for Parish Fundraising including

an Art Show to be held in October

RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) During these weeks, as we journey to Easter, our

RCIA Candidates – Kristal and Melanie – will be

“dismissed” from Mass after the Homily, with their

Sponsors – Monica and Bernie – and another mem-

ber of the Parish, to go and discuss the Word they

have heard, returning at the end of Mass so that they

can be around with the community to meet us all.

This will happen at a different Mass each weekend, so

that Melanie and Kristal will get to meet as many

members of the Parish as possible. Please take the

opportunity to introduce yourself and say hello. This

weekend they will be at the 6 pm Mass.

Lenten Films And Discussion Nights The second of our Lenten Film and Discussion eve-

nings will be held this Wednesday – 4th March – at

7 pm in the Church. The film will be “The Way”.

It’s rated ‘PG’ and included in the cast are Emilio Es-

tevez and Martin Sheen.

Tom is an American doctor who comes to St Jean

Pied de Port, France to collect the remains of his

adult son, killed in the Pyrenees in a storm while

walking The Camino de Santiago, also known as The

Way of Saint James. Driven by his profound sadness

and desire to understand his son better, Tom decides

to embark on the historical pilgrimage, leaving his

“California bubble life” behind. Armed with his son’s

backpack and guidebook, Tom navigates the 800 km

pilgrimage from the French Pyrenees, to Santiago de

Compostela in the north west of Spain, but soon dis-

covers that he will not be alone on this journey.

While walking the Camino, Tom meets other pilgrims

from around the world, all broken and looking for

greater meaning in their lives. From the hardship ex-

perienced along “The Way” this unlikely quartet of

misfits create an everlasting bond and Tom begins to

learn what it means to be a citizen of the world again,

and discovers the difference between “The life we

live and the life we choose”.

Everyone is welcome to come along. BYO cushion or

more comfy chair if you would like to. Tea/coffee,

and left over chocolate treats from last week’s film,

will be available.

The third film will be ‘Face to Face’ on Tuesday 24th

March.
