Since 2008 the Port has earned this certification by demonstrating its commitment toprotect the Puget Sound water quality by enhancing the ecological environment andrestoring salmon habitat The Salmon-Safe certification is a comprehensive third-partyevaluation program that involves continuous improvement and reassessment every fiveyears Since its last certification the Port has further reduced use of fertilizersi l d i l d ddi i l id i i

implemented a water conservation plan assessed additional system-wide opportunitiesfor stormwater treatment and habitat restoration and installed stormwater treatment andhabitat restoration projects on a number of Port properties

Volunteers ldquogot their green onrdquo at Angle Lake Park Nature Trail in the City of SeaTacrecently as they kicked off the first in a series of three planting events sponsored by thePort of Seattle Led by non-profit Forterra and in close coordination with the city ofSeaTac 25 volunteers planted over 200 native trees shrubs and ground cover along theshore of Angle Lake

These events are a turning point in a multi-year collaborative project to involvecommunities near the airport (Burien Des Moines and SeaTac) in Forterrarsquos Green CityPartnerships program The program was created with the philosophy that healthy forestedparks and green spaces have the power to strengthen neighborhoods provide safeaccess to nature and offer many valuable benefits to the environment

Volunteers ldquogot their green onrdquo at Angle Lake Park Nature Trail in the City of SeaTacrecently as they kicked off the first in a series of three planting events sponsored by thePort of Seattle Led by non-profit Forterra and in close coordination with the city ofSeaTac 25 volunteers planted over 200 native trees shrubs and ground cover along theshore of Angle Lake

These events are a turning point in a multi-year collaborative project to involvecommunities near the airport (Burien Des Moines and SeaTac) in Forterrarsquos Green CityPartnerships program The program was created with the philosophy that healthy forestedparks and green spaces have the power to strengthen neighborhoods provide safeaccess to nature and offer many valuable benefits to the environment

Restoring urban forests in airport communities

Volunteers ldquogot their green onrdquo at Angle Lake Park Nature Trail in the City of SeaTacrecently as they kicked off the first in a series of three planting events sponsored by thePort of Seattle Led by non-profit Forterra and in close coordination with the city ofSeaTac 25 volunteers planted over 200 native trees shrubs and ground cover along theshore of Angle Lake

These events are a turning point in a multi-year collaborative project to involvecommunities near the airport (Burien Des Moines and SeaTac) in Forterrarsquos Green CityPartnerships program The program was created with the philosophy that healthy forestedparks and green spaces have the power to strengthen neighborhoods provide safeaccess to nature and offer many valuable benefits to the environment
