WINTER SCHOOL ON APPLIED MODELLING
Well and Reservoir Characterisation Beach Rotana Hotel
Abu Dhabi, UAE
26–27 January 2014
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to invite you to participate in the 6th International Winter School on Applied
Modelling WSAM 2014 to be held 26–27 January 2014 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
WSAM 2014 is organised and sponsored by TGT Oilfield Services.
The school focuses on well and reservoir characterisation by geological modelling,
petrophysical modelling, reservoir flow simulations, streamline analysis, temperature
simulations, multiphase flow modelling, noise logging, corrosion logging, pulsed neutron
logging and open-hole logging.
WSAM is intended for a broad audience of experts – particularly production technologists,
reservoir engineers, petrophysicists, mathematicians and software developers – using
modelling in their daily work.

ABOUT UAE
UAE is a federation of seven emirates (equivalent to principalities). The constituent emirates
are Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah, Sharjah, and Umm al-Quwain. The
capital is Abu Dhabi, which is one of the two centres of commercial and cultural activities,
together with Dubai. Islam is the official religion of the UAE, and Arabic is the official
language.
ABOUT ABU DHABI
Abu Dhabi lies on a T-shaped island jutting into the Arabian Gulf from the central western
coast. The city proper had a population of 921,000 in 2013.
Abu Dhabi houses offices of the federal
government, and is the seat for the United Arab
Emirates Government and the home for the Abu Dhabi
Emiri Family and the President of the UAE from this
family. Abu Dhabi has grown to be a cosmopolitan
metropolis. Its rapid development and urbanisation, coupled with the relatively high average
income of its population, has transformed Abu Dhabi to a larger and advanced metropolis.
Today the city is the country's centre of political, industrial activities, and a major cultural, and
commercial centre due to its position as the capital.
Abu Dhabi is home to important financial institutions such as the Abu Dhabi Securities
Exchange, the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates and the corporate headquarters of
many companies and numerous multinational corporations.
The dry subtropical climate offers beautiful moderate weather in January, with warm sunny
days and cool nights, which makes this period ideal for a visit to Abu Dhabi. The temperature
can range between 15°C and 30°C, averaging at 25°C or 77°F. Light clothing is fine for most
of this month except evenings, the best time to wear a sweater, cardigan or jacket.
