GENERAL INFORMATION

This Call is addressed to candidates applying to the Master’s Degree in MOLECULAR AND CELL BIOLOGY (CLASS LM-6) – University of Bologna.

• In order to be admitted, candidates must fulfill the curricular requirements (SECTION 1 – ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS) and pass the assessment of personal preparation (SECTION 3 – ASSESSMENT OF CURRICULAR REQUIREMENTS AND PERSONAL PREPARATION).

• All candidates must follow the procedure envisaged by this Call for Applications.

• The Degree Programme is in English. All candidates must have a B2 (or higher) English Language competence (SECTION 1 – ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS). The assessment of personal preparation will be in English.

• The Programme Board, nominated by the Department Board, will verify the existence of the curricular requirements and the adequacy of personal preparation.

• There will be two intakes for the admission to this Degree Programme (intake A and B). The deadlines are indicated in the Table of Deadlines and are mandatory. If candidates do not respect them their application will be rejected.

• The first intake (A) is addressed to non-EU candidates living outside of Italy. These candidates can apply only to this intake according to the procedures indicated in this call for applications. Non-EU candidates living outside of Italy, apart from taking part in the selection, must submit their pre-enrolment at the Italian Embassy/Consulate in their country via www.universitaly.it, according to the modalities and provisions set by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR): www.studiare-in-italia.it/studentistranieri/. They should also a possess a title that allows access to University. More info here: www.unibo.it/IscrizioniStudentiNonUE.

N.B: if you do not pre-enrol according to the foreseen modalities, you will not be admitted to the Degree Programme.

• The second intake (B) is addressed to Italian, EU and EU-assimilated candidates and to non-EU citizens with residency abroad but exempted from the quota of reserved spots for non-EU international students. More info on the categories of students here.

N.B: if you are exempted from the quota of reserved spots for non-EU international students, you must follow all the procedures foreseen for non-EU candidates living outside of Italy, and you must pre-enroll according to the modalities expressed by MUR.

• Candidates admitted to the enrolment must enroll by paying the first instalment of tuition fee – or the whole amount – before 29th October 2021. No late payments are admitted. If candidate submit their enrolment request but eventually do not pay the fee, their application and enrolment will be definitely rejected.

• Disabled students and students with specific learning disabilities: please read the specific information

SECTION 1 – ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

To access the 2nd Cycle Degree Programme in Molecular and Cell Biology applicants:

1. must possess a first cycle degree in one of the following classes:

a. ex Italian Ministerial Decree no. 270/04: Class-L-13 Biology, Class L-2 Biotechnologies; b. ex Italian Ministerial Decree no. 509/99: Class 12 Biology, Class 1 Biotechnologies; c. previous five-year degree programme system: Biology, Biotechnologies; d. foreign Degree which can be considered equivalent to the ones foreseen for students holding an Italian Degree. Otherwise, applicants:

2. must possess a first-cycle degree in a class that is different from the ones mentioned above in points a,b,c,d but they must have obtained

at least 45 CFU in one or more of the following SSD:

BIO/04 – Plant Physiology BIO/10 - Biochemistry BIO/11 – Molecular Biology BIO/18 - Genetics BIO/19 – General Microbiology at least 18 CFU in one or more of the following SSD: FIS/01-FIS/08 MAT/01-MAT/09 CHIM/01-CHIM/12

3. is also required the knowledge of the English language to level B2 according to the Common European

Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). For the purpose of this selection, we will accept the

certificates listed in the specific Chart (Tabella certificazioni equipollenti prova idoneità linguistica) available

in the University of Bologna Linguistic Centre (CLA) website: http://www.cla.unibo.it/idoneita-

linguistica/equipollenza-dei-titoli-1. These certificates are accepted if issued in the 3 previous years to the

deadline of the registration to the specific selection, according to the table of deadlines.

N.B. Candidates who sit an English Language Certificate examination (among the ones accepted) and got a B2 (or higher) level, but have not the certificate yet, can upload an official document that certifies that they have taken the test and its relative results (e.g. Statement of Results).

The English Language Requirement is considered as satisfied also if candidates:

• Had a B2 English Language Test done in their previous First-Cycle Degree. This will be accepted if

the B2 level (or higher) is clearly stated in the denomination of the teaching activity;

• Hold a Degree obtained in English. The document must state that the Degree Programme was held

in English;

• English native speakers (i.e. English is their mother-tongue).

Candidates who, at the end of the registration for the selection, for each intake, have not fulfilled the requirement of knowledge of the English language, level B2, will have to pass an interview that will be held in English. The interview will verify the requisite of the English knowledge, level B2, in order to be admitted to the assessment of the personal preparation, on the dates indicated in the general calendar. For each intake, the list of the candidates who will have to attend the English interview will be published together with the Analysis of application results. Candidates must download Microsoft Teams here: https://www.microsoft.com/it-it/microsoft-365/microsoft-teams/download-app and register using their institutional e-mail address ([email protected]), obtained through the registration to the selection of the present call (Section 2 – Application).

Candidates will receive the link through which they must connect to Microsoft Teams using their institutional e-mail address on the day and the time specified in Studenti Online, together with the application results. Each candidate must be available during the entire course of the interviews. Any impediments of a technical nature may result in the end of the interview. The Board will try to contact candidates up to three times: in case candidates do not answer, they will be considered as absent and excluded from the selection. The Board will check the identity of each candidate by comparing the document uploaded on Studenti Online: upon specific request, candidates must show their documents to the Board in order to confirm the data inserted on Studenti Online while applying. Candidates’ privacy will be ensured during the identification. The test will be public. Candidates are advised to check Studenti Online (www.studenti.unibo.it) and their institutional e-mail ([email protected]) regularly.

The results of the interview to assess the knowledge of the English language, level B2, will be published in Studenti Online on the dates indicated in the table af deadlines, for each intake. Candidates who will pass the English interview will be admitted to the Assessment of personal preparation. Candidates who won’t pass the English interview will be excluded from the selection. Results will not be published otherwise.

The admission to the Master’s Degree in Molecular and Cell Biology is also conditional to the assessment

of personal preparation (SECTION 3 – ASSESSMENT OF CURRICULAR REQUIREMENTS AND PERSONAL

PREPARATION). Selected candidates who do not hold the first-cycle degree at the moment of the application must enroll before 29th October 2021 and graduate before 16th December 2021 (registration under condition). If they do not fulfill this requirement, their enrolment will be definitely rejected (SECTION 5 – ENROLMENT – Under Condition Enrolment).

SECTION 2 - APPLICATION

Registrations to the selection are free of charge. To participate in the selection, candidates must submit their application by registering within the deadline set for each intake:

intake A From 6th May 2021, 1 pm to 10th June 2021, 1 pm

intake B From 5th July 2021, 1 pm to 2nd September 2021, 1 pm

In order to apply to the selection procedure, Register for the selection on www.studenti.unibo.it according to the following instructions:

- If you have SPID Credentials (www.spid.gov.it), use them to register on Studenti Online and select Register and then “Entra con SPID”. The system will automatically get your Data from SPID and will create your credentials as [email protected]

- If you do not have SPID Credentials, connect to www.studenti.unibo.it (StudentiOnline) and create your personal user ID and password, by clicking on ‘Registrati’ (you may then switch to English by clicking on the top left button). The Unibo Credentials are valid throughout the whole academic career and are required to access all online services at Unibo.

the exams registered in the foreign University; c) Documentation stating the B2 English Language Level (section 1 – ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS, point 3);

d) Request for adaptation for students with disabilities and Specific Learning Disorders – only for students who intend to submit this request

a) Copy of your valid passport/ID Document, containing personal data (UE citizens – not Italian – and EU-Assimilated citizens must upload their passports);

b) Self-Certification5 of your degree or of your enrolment6 in one of the degree accepted, release by the University Information Services. If Universities do not release a digital Self-Certification, candidates can use the form in the attachment 27 of the Call;

c) Transcript of Records (either in Italian or English), with the list of all the exams assessed in the previous Career in a foreign University – only for candidates holding non-Italian Degrees;

d) Documentation stating the B2 English Language Level (section 1 – ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS, point 2); e) Copy of your valid Italian Residence Permit or a copy of the receipt for renewal (mandatory for EU

assimilated candidates); f) Request for adaptation for students with disabilities and Specific Learning Disorders – only for students

who intend to submit this request

3. Verify that all the documents required by the call are correctly uploaded

SECTION 3 – ASSESSMENT OF CURRICULAR REQUIREMENTS AND PERSONAL PREPARATION

At the end of the registration and for each intake, the Board will evaluate applications and verify that each

candidate fulfils the curricular requirements, in order to be admitted to the Assessment of the Personal

Preparation, which will consist in a written and an oral test.

The Board will only evaluate the applications submitted within the terms indicated in the table of deadlines

and according to the instructions indicated in SECTION 2 – APPLICATION , for each intake.

The list of admitted/non admitted candidates will be published on Studenti Online (www.studenti.unibo.it)

on the following dates:

Results will not be published otherwise.

Candidates are exempted from the assessment of personal preparation and can directly enroll, only in the following cases: • graduate candidates - ex D.M. 270: Class L- 13 - degree in Biological Sciences, Class L-2 - degree in Biotechnology; - ex D.M. 509/99: Class 12 - degree in Biological Sciences, Class 1 - degree in Biotechnology; - previous five-year system: degree in Biological Sciences, degree in Biotechnology; who obtained a Degree with a final grade equal to or higher than 105 out of 110 and a B2 or higher English language competence (section 1 - ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS, point 2); • candidates enrolled in degree courses pursuant to D.M. 270/2004: Class L- 13 - degree in Biological Sciences, Class L-2 - degree in Biotechnology, whose average mark, recorded in their career in the University informatic systems at the deadline for enrollment in the selection, is greater than or equal to 28 out of 30. Candidates must also possess knowledge of the English language, level B2 (section 1 - ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS, point 2).

on the study program website and in Studenti Online on the dates indicated in the attachment.

The written text lasts 60 minutes. It consists of 40 multiple choice questions and is aimed at verifying the

knowledge of general topics of Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Genetics And Physiology of

Prokaryotes and Eukaryotes.

Correct answer 1 punto

Incorrect answer (minus) - 0,25 punti

Not given answer 0 punti

If a candidate scores 15 points (or more), s/he passes the test. Candidates who score less than 15 points will be excluded from the selection. Candidates who pass the written test will be admitted to the oral test. The results of the written test will be published on Studenti Online on

The oral test – in English – will consist in two questions and it is aimed at assessing knowledge and

competence in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Genetics And Physiology of Prokaryotes and

Eukaryotes.

The Admission Board will evaluate every question through a score up to 20 points. If a candidate scores 30 points (or more), s/he passes the test and can enroll.

If a candidate scores less than 30 points she/he will be excluded and won’t be able to enrol.

Results will not be published otherwise. All admitted candidates must enroll in the Degree Programme before 29th October 2021. Candidates who enroll but still do not hold a First-Cycle Degree, apart from enrolling in the indicated terms, must obtain the Degree before 16th December 2021. If they do not fulfill this requirement, their enrolment will be definitely rejected SECTION 5 – ENROLMENT, B. UNDER CONDITION ENROLMENT). Non-EU candidates, besides enrolling before 29th October 2021, must pre-enroll in the Italian Embassy in their country (via www.universitaly.it) according to the deadlines and modalities set by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR). SECTION 4 - DISABLED CANDIDATES AND CANDIDATES WITH LEARNING DISABILITIES Candidates who want to request any adjustment they may need for the assesment of personal preparation must submit their request, within the deadline for the registration of the selection indicated in the table of deadine for each intake according to the following procedure: 1) Access Studenti Online (www.studenti.unibo.it) and register for the selection; 2) Fill in the specific form Request for Adaptation, save it as a PDF Document and upload it in the dedicated section; Adaptation may consist in

o +30% or 50% of time; o Possibility to use specific tools, such as non-scientific calculators. The complete list can be

found in the form.

3) Attach the necessary and specialized documentation. Disabled candidates living outside of Italy must upload the legalized certificate of their Disability Status, together with an official translation either in Italian or English. For more information: e-mail: [email protected]

SECTION 5 - ENROLMENT

Admitted candidates must enroll before 29th October 2021.

A. FIRST EVER ENROLMENT TO THE UNIVERSITY OF BOLOGNA Within the set deadlines you must: 1. Login on www.studenti.unibo.it with your personal username and password or via SPID Credentials

and select “Registration” > “Second-cycle degree programme” > “Molecular and Cell Biology” 2. ”Insert the requested information and upload a JPG file of your passport-size photo (beware of the

consequences under art. 496 of Italian Criminal Code regarding false declarations: in such case, you are punishable by law, will be not enrolled, and will lose any right to benefits or reimbursements;

3. Pay the first intalment – or the total amount – according to the instructions specified on Studenti

Online. Candidates who won’t pay according to the indicated procedures will be excluded from the

procedure. Late payments will not be accepted. Payment modes other than those indicated at this

link https://www.unibo.it/en/teaching/enrolment-transfer-and-final-examination/tuition-fees-and-

exemptions will not be accepted.

In order to finalize the enrolment and activate their careers, candidates’ identities must be validated.

Candidates who have got SPID credentials and used them to access to Studenti Online for the application

or the enrollment, or candidates who previously enrolled in a study course at the University of Bologna

starting from 2004, will have their university career activated without any further fulfilment, except for

candidates described in the following points c), d) and e). In those cases, before activating the career it is

necessary for the University to verify the certifications, even if you have SPID or you have previously

registered at Unibo;

Candidates who haven’t got of SPID credentials or who have not activated a previous career at the

University of Bologna starting from the year 2004, must proceed with the identification, according to the

instructions specified on Studenti Online in the enrollment procedure in order to activate their career.

Once your career is activated you can access Unibo services, such as study plans submission, exams booking, Wi-Fi, online libraries: you will also receive an e-mail to print your Badge, according to the modalities that will be specified within. If you do not activate you career you cannot use Unibo services!

In the following cases there are specific information on enrolment:

Biotechnology and Sport Science [email protected] using your institutional e-mail

If you are applying for the recognition of exams from previous academic careers in English which do not

belong to the LM-6 (Biology) Class taken in other Universities, you need to hand in also the relative

catalogues/programmes. Contact the Students Administration Office for more information

c) If you are a EU-assimilated student, you have to send the copy of your residence permit to the

Students Administration Office;

d) If you are a non-EU citizen living outside of Italy, you have to send the copy of your residence permit

or the copy of the receipt, attesting the request has been forwarded. More info here;

e) If you have a foreign qualification. You must check the information available here and upload the

documentation related to your degree starting from 1st April 2021 and before 28th February 2022.

After your arrival in Bologna, you will have to make an appointment with the Students

Administration office to show the original document of your degree.

N.B. If the health emergency situation persists, the information related to enrollments from abroad, if

provided for in the circular of the Ministry of University and Research (MUR) published on the Studiare

in Italia website, will be available on the following pages: Non-Ue students enrolment, Enrolling in a First

Cycle, Single Cycle Degree Programme or Second Degree Programme

N.B. You must activate your career before 28th February 2022, otherwise your enrolment will no longer

be valid.

B. UNDER CONDITION ENROLMENT

Candidates who enroll but still do not hold a First-Cycle Degree, must enroll before 29th October 2021 and

graduate before 16th December 2021. If they do not fulfill this requirement, their enrolment will be

definitely rejected. Their career will be started only after obtaining the First-Cycle Degree. To this extent, as

soon as they graduate, they must send an e-mail from their institutional email address

([email protected]) to the Students Administration Office ([email protected]) – Object

of the email: “Molecular and Cell Biology – Under Condition Enrolment” and they shall indicate the

University, the date, the mark and the Degree Programme related to the Qualification obtained.

C. CANDIDATES TRANSFERRING FROM OTHER UNIVERSITIES

Within the set deadlines you must:

1. enrol following the instructions in A, and specifying the belonging programme and University;

2. pay the first instalment or the total amount according to the modalities you can find on

www.studenti.unibo.it before 29th October 2021. If you do not pay, your enrolment will no longer be

valid (late payments are not allowed);

3. hand in your transfer request to your belonging University, according to their deadlines.

Your career at Unibo will be activated only after the recognition of your transfer by the Programme Board.

If you are applying for the recognition of exams from previous academic careers in English which do not

Within the set deadline (29th October 2021) you must:

1. Pay the total amount of the fees of the programme in which you currently enrolled for the new

academic year and be ok with your fee record;

2. Fill in the specific transfer request (passaggio di corso) on Studenti Online www.studenti.unibo.it

and pay the transfer fee.

C. You will be able to take exams in the former degree programme until you send your transfer request (passaggio di corso), while you will have your career on the new programme activated only after the Programme Board approves your transfer

ATTACHMENT 1 - ONLINE WRITTEN TEST INSTRUCTIONS

Candidates admitted to the written test must consult and respect the following indications: A. WHAT IS NEEDED TO TAKE THE TEST 1) a desktop or laptop PC, with Windows / Mac operating system, connected to the Internet and equipped with a webcam. It is not allowed to take the test using a tablet, mobile phone or other devices; 2) a stable internet connection; 3) it is necessary to download Zoom on the PC. It will be used for the test. Candidates must authenticate using the UNIBO credentials ([email protected] ) N.B. you need to download the latest Zoom version on your PC B. WHAT TO DO BEFORE THE TEST Starting from the day: • 23RD June, 2021 - for candidates of intake A • 15th September, 2021 - for candidates of intake B You will find the guidelines containing detailed information for taking the online written test and the Zoom link to use to take the test on Studenti Online, in the application section. N.B. Since there will be different virtual rooms for the test, each candidate must verify the assigned link in correspondence with his / her temporary registration number. Candidates who will have to take the interview to fulfill the requirement of knowledge of English, B2 level, if admitted to the written test, will receive the Zoom link together with the publication of the interview results in Studenti Online: • 29th June 2021 - for candidates of intake A • 21st September 2021 - for candidates of intake B C. WHAT TO DO ON THE DAY OF THE TEST: On the following dates: • 2nd July 2021, at 1 pm - Intake A; • 22nd September 2021, at 10 am - Intake B candidates must: 1. connect to Zoom using the link assigned to their temporary registration number. In the Zoom room the Board wil identify the candidates and provide the link to the Unibo platform where the online written test will be held. N.B Upon specific request, candidates can be asked to show their documents to the Board in order to confirm the data inserted on Studenti Online while applying. Candidates’ privacy will be ensured during the identification. 2. prepare the tax code which must be entered at the end of the test; 3. prepare a sheet and a pen to take down the user code. The personal user code will be displayed at the start of the test and must be used if there are any connection problems.

N.B. - maximum punctuality is required. Candidates who are absent at the time of identification and after the start of the test will be excluded from the selection, regardless of the cause; - during the test candidates are not allowed to communicate or relate to others. If they do, they will be excluded from the selection.
