EAGE Forum for Students & Young Professionals2

Forum Overview

Following the success of the inaugural EAGE Students and Young Professionals Forum in 2012, which addressed the ‘Future of Young Talents’, EAGE has organised the second edition of the forum entitled ‘Empowering & Developing Young Talents.’

The Second EAGE Forum for Students and Young Professionals aims to allow students and young professionals to engage in cross-generational dialogues with industry leaders, academics and recruitment specialists. It will be an opportunity for attend-ees to learn from their experiences and insights gained from working in the oil, gas and energy industry.

Technical Programme

Field Trip to Wadi Bani Kharus

Sunday 7 December 2014The field trip is a one-day outing organised in association with the Geological Society of Oman (GSO).

This field trip will head along the new express way to the Al Batinah gravel plain close to the Wilayat of Nakhl through the regional geology of Oman and the surrounding region. The tour will offer views of the limestone of the Wasia Group (Natih/ Nahr Umr) and the Kahmah Group (Shuaiba/Lekhwair) that form the steeply-dipping massive cliffs of the Jebel Akhdar. After viewing the famous Wadi Bani Kharus we will progressively pass through older rocks of the stratigraphic column of Oman until the very core of Jebel is reached, where the oldest sedimentary rocks of Oman are exposed. In the heart of the Oman Mountains clues can be found of the climate of early Earth and are part of a tale that captures the attention and imagination of geologists, biologists and climatologists alike. The high-quality exposures offer a unique opportunity to discuss the importance of the Huqf Supergroup outcrop geology strata to measure global Neoproterozoic climatic events and the emergence of animal life.

needs from industry• Is the Gulf Region co-operating enough with academia?• Is the industry too sensitive with data when it is asked to release

them purely for academic use?• Are there enough internship opportunities in the Gulf Region?• Do teaching methods need to be adapted to allow students

To excel in the industry and distinguish themselves among their peers, young professionals must take charge of their own development and always be prepared for future opportunities and challenges. How do we manage the sometimes tricky task of getting people both to where they want to be and where their employer needs them to be?This panel discussion will include top regional executives from the full spectrum of oil & gas companies and will focus on the processes they feel are important in ensuring the adequate development of their staff, including the concepts of employee and employer responsibility, performance evaluation, fairness, diversity and mobility. The panel will also examine the increasing importance of career self-guidance and the internal and external factors young professionals need to consider when looking at their long-term career path.PanelDavid Dragone (Executive VP of HR, CGG)Luc Sposito (Education Director, Total) Afnan Bushalat (HR Business Partner, GE Power & Water)
