NEWS discard trash in a can not a toilet Toilet paper and bodily waste are the only materials that should be flushed. Trash includes: baby wipes, paper towels, medicine, food, grease, flushable wipes (they are not really flushable), diapers, tissues, feminine hygiene products, hair, dental floss, incontinence pads, sponges or toilet cleaning scrub pads. All of these items should be discarded in a trash can as they are not flushable and can clog your sewer system. most "flushable" wipes are not flushable A few years ago, the Plainfield Area Regional Sewerage Authority (PARSA), conducted a test on wipes, and the results revealed that when a “flushable” wipe was flushed it did not decompose. The study showed that after 100 flushes through the PARSA Potty, the wipe had still not broken down. This particular type of wipe is no longer on the market, and although some new flushable wipes appear to perform very well, the current industry guidelines for determining flushability are inadequate. So rule of thumb, keep flushable wipes out of the toilet to avoid messy and costly sewer back-ups. Discard all wipes in a trash can only. tissues should not be flushed Tissue and toilet paper are not the same material. Paper towels, napkins, and face tissue (ex. Kleenex) are significantly stronger than toilet paper, and are specifically designed for higher absorption. Because of their durability against wetness, these tissues often take too long to break down, and can cause sewer line blockages. To prevent clogging pipes, keep tissues out of the toilet, and toss them in the trash. Call 908-226-2518 or go online to www.pmua.info/pec to register and have your PMUA bills e-mailed to you. For a limited time, grass will be accepted for drop-off at the PERC/Transfer Station on Wednesdays only. Clean grass only. No leaves, brush, vegetative debris or other waste material is allowed.
