Christ the Rock’s Mission: To grow in faith and boldly proclaim Christ crucified and risen

to all people of the Four Corners.

WELCOME TO CHRIST THE ROCK!

SERIES THEME: Now We Really Live For Christians, Easter isn't just one day. It's not just a holiday we celebrate and then forget about like the candy that gets quickly consumed. During these 50 days that reflect the time between the Jewish festivals fo Passover and Pentecost, we focus on the Bible teachings that show us what the resurrection really means for our lives. We have life because Jesus lives. 1 Peter is a short epistle that is packed with value encouragement for Christians. Peter wrote to Christians who were struggling. They faced many adversities. In the face of some severe suffering, Peter pointed them to their faithful God and his promises. As we trust in God and live by faith, we see hope and joy surface in our lives. Jesus' resurrection gives us new lie and power for living right now. SERVICE THEME: We Live with Joy In the face of doubt, Christ gives us proof and peace. To the doubting disciples, he gave certain proof that led to certain peace. Through his Word and sacraments, Jesus gives the same proof to all people of all time. “Peace be with you,” said our Lord. Then he sent his people forth with this message of peace based on the proof of his resurrection. When we trust in the promises of Jesus, he brings joy to our faith.

OPENING HYMN “This Joyful Eastertide” Christian Worship #160

The Opening Hymn enables us to do something rare: to come together, young and old, from all different walks of life, and to join our voices as one.

The Opening Hymn also often introduces the theme of the Bible readings of the day.

+ DIVINE SERVICE +

God serves us with His divine power as He comes to feed us with His Word and nourish us through the Sacrament. Believers serve God by responding with praise for His saving acts.

Minister: In the name of the Father and of the Son ⧾ and of the Holy Spirit. Congregation: Amen. CONFESSION OF SINS M: Beloved in the Lord: let us draw near with a true heart and confess our sins

to God our Father, asking him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant us forgiveness.

C: Holy and merciful Father, I confess that I am by nature sinful and that I

have disobeyed you in my thoughts, words, and actions. I have done what is evil and failed to do what is good. For this I deserve your punishment both now and in eternity. But I am truly sorry for my sins, and trusting in my Savior Jesus Christ, I pray: Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner.

LORD, HAVE MERCY

Kyrie

M: God, our heavenly Father, has been merciful to us and has given his only Son

to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Therefore, as a called servant of Christ and by his authority, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son ⧾ and of the Holy Spirit.

C: Amen.

PRAYER AND PRAISE M: In the peace of forgiveness, let us praise the Lord.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

The Prayer of the Day collects the thoughts of the Bible lessons for the day.

M: The Lord be with you. C: And also with you.

M: Let us pray. O risen Lord, you came to your disciples and took away their fears

with your word of peace. Come to us also by your Word and sacrament, and banish our fears with the comforting assurance of your abiding presence; for you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

C: Amen.

THE WORD What follows is not the uncertain word of untrustworthy human beings. It is the Word of God, centered in Christ. This is why we have gathered here—for instruction and encouragement from our generous God in His Word.

CHILDREN’S MESSAGE FIRST LESSON Acts 10:34a,36,39-43

Witnesses of the Resurrection testify Then Peter began to speak: 36 “You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, announcing the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all.

39 “We are witnesses of everything he did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They killed him by hanging him on a cross, 40 but God raised him from the dead on the third day and caused him to be seen. 41 He was not seen by all the people, but by witnesses whom God had already chosen—by us who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. 42 He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead. 43 All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”

M: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.

PSALM OF THE DAY “O Sons and Daughters of the King” Christian Worship #165

1 O sons and daughters of the King, Whom heav’nly hosts in glory sing, Today the grave has lost its sting! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

2 On that first morning of the week, Before the day began to break, The Marys went their Lord to seek. Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

3 An angel bade their sorrow flee, For thus he spoke unto the three, “Your Lord will go to Galilee.” Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

4 That night th’ apostles met in fear; Among them came their Lord most dear And said, “Peace be unto you here.” Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

SECOND LESSON 1 Peter 1:3-9

Living hope in the Resurrection

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, 5 who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. 7 These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. 8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 9 for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

M: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.

VERSE OF THE DAY “O Sons and Daughters of the King” Christian Worship #165

5 When Thomas afterwards had heard That Jesus had fulfilled his word, He doubted if it were the Lord. Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

GOSPEL John 20:19-31 Blessed are those who have not seen yet have believed

M: The Gospel according to John, the Twentieth Chapter. C: Glory to you, O Lord!

On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” 20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. 21 Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” 22 And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”

24 Now Thomas (also known as Didymus ), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.” 26 A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.” 28 Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

30 Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31 But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

M: This is the Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise be to you, O Christ!

APOSTLES’ CREED C: I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

HYMN OF THE DAY “O Sons and Daughters of the King” Christian Worship #165

6 “Thomas, behold my side,” said he, “My hands, my feet, my body see; And doubt not, but believe in me.” Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

7 No longer Thomas then denied; He saw the feet, the hands, the side; “You are my Lord and God,” he cried. Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

8 Blessèd are they that have not seen And yet whose faith has constant been; In life eternal they shall reign. Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

9 On this most holy day of days To God your hearts and voices raise In laud and jubilee and praise. Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
