Third Sunday of Lent, March 24th, 2019 Next Sunday’s Gospel Reading You are encouraged to cut and post this Gospel, praying it daily and using it as quiet reflection .

A reading from the Holy Gospel According to Luke Some people told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with the blood of the sacrifices. Jesus said to them in reply, “Do you think that because these Galileans suffered in this way they were greater sinners than all other Galileans? By no means! But I tell you, if you do not repent, you will all perish as they did! Or those eighteen people who were killed when the tower at Siloam fell on them—do you think they were more guilty than everyone else who lived in Jerusalem? By no means! But I tell you, if you do not repent, you will all perish as they did!” And he told them this parable: “There once was a person who had a fig tree planted in his orchard, and when he came in search of fruit on it but found none, he said to the gardener, ‘For three years now I have come in search of fruit on this fig tree but have found none. So cut it down. Why should it exhaust the soil?’ He said to him in reply, ‘Sir, leave it for this year also, and I shall cultivate the ground around it and fertilize it; it may bear fruit in the future. If not you can cut it down.’” The Word of the Lord.

Reflection Questions

¨ What strikes you about this Gospel Reading? (Maybe it is something you never heard or realized before, or maybe something you find puzzling!)

¨ How does this Gospel relate to our lives?

¨ What might be the Good News for us?

Second Sunday of Lent, March 17, 2019 “I am the Lord who brought you from Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land as a possession.” ~ Genesis 15:7

Just as the Lord gave Abraham, Moses and the Israelites a land to possess, He has also given each of us a home. Whether your home is grand or humble, it is a gift from God. Abraham prepared a great sacrifice to the Lord in gratitude for the home God gave him. How do you show your gratitude to God for the home He has given you? Do you make a sacrifice of any kind? Do you return any of your finances to God, investing equally in your eternal home just as you invest in your earthly home?

Youth Ministry Fish Fry Schedule Come on out to the Round Table where the Knights of Columbus will be helping us put on Fish Fry Fundraisers for our Youth. Enjoy their deep fried or baked cod, shrimp, coleslaw, French fries, baked potatoes and even some chicken tenders for the little ones. St. Albert teens will also be selling some desserts to top off your meal. The next date will be Friday, March 22nd, 5-8 PM. Carry outs available. WE NEED HELP!! Both youth and adult volunteers are needed to work at these Fish Fries. This is a great way for youth to get involved with the parish and earn service hours. Money earned from the fish fry will benefit future youth ministry events. You can sign-up to help on our website www.saintalberts.org or contact Brenda at [email protected] or 837-3798.

Opportuni!es for Renewed Focus On Prayer During Lent …. Members of our many parish groups have been invited to sign up in advance to “commit” to quiet prayer time in front of our Lord during the Friday and Saturday Eucharistic Adoration times during the Season of Lent. Members of the var ious councils, outreach, faith formation, and prayer groups are being encouraged to sponsor par ticular Fridays (9:00-10:00 AM) and Saturdays (500-6:00 PM). We encourage you to sign up in advance on our parish website (on the homepage), or in the Eucharistic Adoration schedule book located in the narthex. Prayer intentions may also be entered in the sign-up book. All are invited to participate. Beautiful prayer materials are available for your use. Beginning in March, Eucharistic Adoration will be available after 5:30 Mass on Tuesdays (6:00-7:00 PM). We encourage individuals and entire families to join together in silent prayer in front of the Blessed Eucharist. Please freely access our books, pamphlets and our church for this purpose.

We Are Hiring! We are seeking an energetic, full-time Coordinator of Religious Education, responsible for coordinating the religious formation process for parish youth in grades 8-12. Responsibilities also include coordination of the Sacrament preparation for Confirmation, and participation in mission trips, retreats, conferences, prayer and service. Evening and weekend hours will be necessary. Further information is available on our website, www.saintalberts.org.

Food Pantry Weekend March 23 & 24

Please bring nonperishable items to fill our collection barrels at the church entrances. These items we are in special need of: diapers/

pull ups, wipes, feminine hygiene products, soups, cereals, baking mixes, hamburger helper, rice, pasta (not spaghetti), canned fruit, kids meals (like SpaghettiOs, ravioli), jello, pudding mixes, ramen noodles, spaghetti sauces, cookie mixes, muffin mixes, cookies, crackers, condiments (ketchup, mustard, mayo) and salad dressings. The Food Pantry also takes monetary collections—they are able to purchase in large quantities at a good price. The donation box is attached to the cart in the Narthex. Thank you for your support of those who are struggling in our community!

Outreach Ministry Pro-Life Corner A brief history of progress, where we are today and why prayer is urgently necessary. At this point in time a vast multitude of people around the world recognize and love the image of Our

Lady of Guadalupe, who appeared to a new Catholic convert (Juan Diego) in Mexico in the year 1531. Within a short span of time, an estimated nine million Aztecs were converted to Christ by her image! Why did she appear at that time in world history? Pagan worship ruled in Mexico, and at that time the Aztecs were practicing human sacrifice on a continual basis to appease their “god,” Huitzilopochtli. (Gory scenes from Indiana Jones actually depict the manner of sacrifice quite close to the truth!) In the year 1487 the reigning ruler, Tlacaellel, dedicated the new temple pyramid of the sun, and dedicated it to TWO “gods”: Huitzilophochtli (“Lover of Hearts and Drinker of Blood”) and Tezcatlipoca (“God of Hell and Darkness”) in the center of Mexico City. Over the course of four days and nights more than 80,000 men were ritually sacrificed. How is this relevant to our mission to end abortion (the killing of innocent pre-born human beings)? We as a nation have grown numb to the continual sacrifice of our own kin (more than 60 MILLION abortions recorded in the USA since the legalization of abortion in 1973 to January, 2018). We casually look the other way when we know that abortions are being performed and that infant body parts are being sold at very high prices after the “operation”. Planned Parenthood is at the center of this action. (For the history of its foundation, research its eugenicist founder, Margaret Sanger, whose mission, in her words, was to “… exterminate the Negro population” who she referred to as “human weeds” and a “menace to civilization”; and to … “control the intake and output on morons, mental defectives, epileptics.”) Much prayer and sacrifice is needed to turn this around, for we haven’t progressed very far since 1531. Let us continue to pray for the end to abortion, euthanasia, infanticide and assisted suicide.

Area Events

Bike to Mary Pilgrimage The 7th annual Bike to Mary pilgrimage was featured along with three Marian Shrines in Wisconsin on Discover Wisconsin TV show. Check it out at http://discoverwisconsin.com. (The link to select is “Spiritual Wisconsin, Wisconsin’s Marian Shrines.”) In addition to learning a bit about Bike to Mary, this feature offers a beautiful introduction to Our Lady of Good Help in the Green Bay Diocese; Holy Hill in the Milwaukee Archdiocese and the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in the La Crosse Diocese. For more information on this pilgrimage across Wisconsin, and to register, go to www.biketomary.com or contact Cecile at [email protected] or (608) 792-3487.

Evening of Music & Reflection ~ March 29 Dan Schutte will be providing an evening of music and reflection at Sinsinawa Mound Center on Friday, March 29th, 7:00 PM. With a legacy of 50 years, the music of Dan Schutte has played an integral role in shaping the liturgical life of the English-speaking Church. Dan’s songs have lifted the hearts of generations of faith into deeper prayer and worship of God. This concert is free and open to the public. Please join the Sinsinawa Dominican Sisters in welcoming Dan to the tri-state area.

Luke House ~ March 26th Are you looking for an opportunity to extend

hospitality, show respect, and experience community? Look for the signup sheets on the narthex bulletin board and join other St. Albert’s parishioners in providing and serving a meal at Luke House on Tuesday, March 26th. Bring your meal items to Luke House, 310 S. Ingersoll, Madison by 5 PM or label it LUKE HOUSE and bring it to church by 4 PM on March 26th.
