Lord, we ask You to bless all who are sick. Give them
strength in body, courage in spirit, and patience in
pain. Let them recover their health that they may
joyfully praise your name. Amen
Please be careful when walking in front of the church. Causeway Blvd. runs directly in front of the church and blends with the parking
lot. An unsuspecting parishioner could be walking in front of the church and not realize that motorists are driving along the road.

Sunday’s Readings:
Genesis 12:1-4 Blind obedience to God transforms the childless and pagan Abram into a believer in the one true God, and, later in his story, from Abram into the Abraham who became the prototype of trusting Faith and the father of God’s Chosen People. 2 Timothy 1:8-10 God called us to be holy. The covenant in Jesus has the same foundation as the covenant in Abraham: God's grace. Because God is merciful, we have been invited to share in the divine life. Matthew 17:1-9 Jesus is transfigured and the disciples are exhorted to “listen to him.” What keeps us from hearing Jesus, from seeing a different perspective? Retrieved from: www.churchofepiphany.com
In today’s second reading, Timothy is issued a strong directive: “Bear your share of hardship for the gospel with the strength that comes from God.” For the early Christians this could mean torture and execution. For most Christians today enduring hardship for the Gospel might include accepting ridicule or mockery, or the suggestion that we lack sophistication. Nevertheless, in his letters, Saint Paul is adamant that we should not be ashamed of being followers of Christ. Good stewards are not ashamed of their allegiance to Christ. They do not hide their faith. Reflect on this question: Are you willing to speak about following Christ Jesus no matter who your listeners happen to be? Retrieved from: www.catholicstewardship.com
During Lent, when your friends or co-workers express curiosity about Catholic customs and symbolism, use those moments as opportunities to evangelize. In the coming weeks we will post questions that many Catholics hear during Lent and some evangelizing answers.
So why exactly are you not eating candy for the next month? This is a very popular penance during Lent, and the
questions about it are just as popular. Heaven forbid you should avoid the cake at the birthday party! You LOVE cake!
But it’s Lent – a time for penance and sacrifice. Christ has said, “If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny
himself and take up his cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23). Giving up something we enjoy strengthens our love for
Christ and our resilience against temptation. As Pope Benedict XVI said in his Lenten address of 2009, “Through fasting
and praying, we allow [Christ] to come and satisfy the deepest hunger that we experience in the depths of our being:
the hunger and thirst for God.” It unites us with Christ’s own sacrifices and gives us a deeper appreciation of the
blessings in our lives! Retrieved from: www.usccb.org
