b. are in the top 11% - 30% who meet the language criteria (i.e. an A* grade in the MTL or at least a merit in the HMTL)

• Pupils eligible for HMTL will be invited to apply for offering HMTL immediately after the release of the PSLE results.
• On Sec 1 Registration Day, HMTL students will receive Form A

Incentives for offeringHigher Mother Tongue Languages (HMTL)
• A pupil who passes both English and HMTL at the GCE O-Level Exam (grades A1 to C6), and who qualifies for admission to Junior College (JC)/ Millennia Institute (MI) will be given a concession of 2 points in his application to the JC/MI of his choice.
For appeal cases• Students who do not fulfill the criteria but still wish to offer HMTL, please
visit the MTL booth on Sec 1 Registration day.• Complete and submit the HMTL Appeal Form by 24 December.• Application will be processed on a case-by-case basis.• Outcome of application will be released within 3 working days.
OthersPlease approach HOD MTL, Mdm Bek Su Ling for the following which requires MOE’s approval:
1. Application for MTL exemption; and
2. Application to offer Foreign Language, namely French, German or Japanese, in lieu of MTL (considered as second Language)
Third Language• Eligible pupils who are successfully admitted via the DSA-Sec Exercise
must also apply for Third Language during the S1 Option Exercise if they wish to take up a Third Language.
• Outcome of application to offer 3rd lang will be informed directly to students on Sec 1 Registration Day.
• Lessons will be conducted after school (at designated centres)
Foreign Languages as 3rd Lang• If selected, pupils will attend Foreign Language (French/ German/
Japanese/ Spanish) classes at the MOELC at Bishan or Newton.
Asian Languages as 3rd Lang• If selected, pupils will attend Asian Language (Arabic/ Bahasa Indonesia)
classes at the MOELC at Bishan.
Chinese Special Programme (CSP)• Offered to non-Chinese students only• If selected, pupils will attend CSP classes at a school nearest to SST
(West Zone CSP center – Clementi Town Secondary School).
Malay Special Programme (MSP)• Offered to non-Malay students only• If selected, pupils will attend MSP classes at a school nearest to SST
(West Zone MSP centre – Bukit Batok Secondary School) or MOE Language Centres.
3rd Language/CSP/MSP classes• Lessons are conducted once every week (3 hr 15 min)• Students are advised to sign up for the latest slot, i.e. 3:30pm to 6:45pm

Non-Tamil Indian Language (NTIL)• Only Hindi lessons conducted within curriculum time (by the Hindi Society)

Safety Information
- Students unwell during Orientation programme: Inform their Form Teachers or Class Peer Support Leaders immediately.
- School is not allowed to administer any medication. Students must bring their own personal medication, if necessary.
- Students must not bring along expensive items like iPods/iPads/Handheld games/MP3 players.

SST Code of Conduct
School Smart Card (Concession Cards)
- All students entering Secondary One will each be issued a new Secondary Level School Smart Card (SSC) via the school. Students will receive the cards when they are available.
- In the meantime, they can continue to use their Primary level SSCs for concessionary travel, until they receive their new cards.
- Students can still purchase the Bus Concession Pass (BCP) using their Primary Level SSCs but they need to purchase the BCP for Secondary Level.
PforSST stands for Parents for SST, the parent support group
As parents of SST students, you are by default a member of the PforSST. As a member, you can get involved by:(1) Attending training / educational workshops.(2) Participating in social and educational programmes for students and other parents.(3) Being part of the feedback unit to build a nurturing, caring school and home environment for your child.
