Algebra 1 Unit 3 Overview Unit 3 comprises of three sections;
1. Focus on students: Participants work through the student concept task “Bend it like Beckham”. Having done the task the teachers examine the student work provided and develop questions based around this work.
2. Focus on teaching: Participants collaboratively generate a list of strategies to assist EL/SEL
students. Participants review the list of questioning strategies developed in an earlier PD. Participants use both of these strategy ‘banks’ to complete a lesson plan for the Unit 3 concept task “Bend it like Beckham”.
3. Focus on teachers: The facilitator shows the participants the Moodle website for Algebra 1
teachers, and discusses the purpose of the site. Finally the participants all engage in the adult concept task for unit 3.
