22 December 2016 Dear Secondary 1 students, On behalf of the staff and students at CHIJ Secondary, I would like to warmly welcome you, our new Secondary 1 students, and your parents/guardians to our school. Welcome to the IJ Family! From this day forth, you have joined a sisterhood of CHIJ Secondary girls who are Simple in Virtue, Steadfast in Duty. With 162 years of history and tradition, we at CHIJ Secondary strongly believe in a holistic IJ brand of education. As you prepare to join us, please be mindful of the following information: SECONDARY ONE ORIENTATION PROGRAMME 2017 The school will be organising an Orientation programme for you from 3rd to 11th January 2017. Please see the attached schedule of activities. Objectives: ü To help Secondary 1 students integrate into the IJ family by fostering camaraderie; ü To build bonds with teachers and student leaders; and ü To familiarise Secondary 1 students with our school layout, system and expectations so as to

secure a seamless transition from Primary to Secondary school. 1) Orientation Programme on 3rd, 4th and 6th January A series of talks and activities have been planned to help you integrate into the IJ family and to orientate you into a new learning environment. Please refer to Pages 3 − 6 for the detailed programme. The attire and packing list for each day are attached on Page 7. Lessons will begin on Thursday, 5th January at 7.50 am after morning assembly. The timetable will be updated on the school website for your reference.

2) CCA Orientation on 6th January The school has planned the CCA Orientation for students and parents/guardians to be acquainted with the following:

- the range of CCAs that CHIJ Secondary offers, and - parents’/guardians’ role in ensuring a positive CCA experience.

Please be seated by 2.45 pm in the Hall of Faith (Level 2). You are encouraged to view the exhibits put up by the various CCAs as this will help you decide which CCA to sign up for. 3) Campfire on 6th January There will be a campfire for you to experience the IJ Spirit! Your parents are also cordially invited to attend this special event. The campfire will start at 5.45 pm and light refreshments will be served from 5pm outside the General Office. Dinner will be provided for you separately. 4) Learning Journey to CHIJMES To learn about the rich heritage and history of the school, every CHIJ Secondary student will embark on a learning journey that has been specially customised. This learning journey to CHIJMES will take place on the 3rd, 4th, 9th or 11th January from 2.00 pm to 5.45 pm. Please refer to Page 3-6 for the schedule. Teachers and student leaders will be accompanying you to CHIJMES to ensure your safety. 5) Purchase of House T-shirt You have been assigned to a specific House (Saint Bernadette – Blue, Saint Cecilia – Red, Saint Joan – Yellow or Saint Theresa - Green) in the school (Refer to Page 6). You are encouraged to purchase the House T-shirt as you will be wearing it for various school events such as Cross-Country and Sports Day. House T-shirts will be available for ordering at $4.50 each, opposite the school bookshop, on 4th and 5th January from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm. To assist us in our preparations, we would greatly appreciate if you could submit the attached reply slip to your Form Teacher by Tuesday, 3rd January 2017. IMPORTANT NOTICE

Please be informed that all students entering Secondary One in Jan 2017 will be issued with a new Secondary level School Smart Cards (SSC). The school will be informed of the delivery dates in due course. While Secondary One students are waiting for their Secondary level SSCs to be ready, they can continue to use their Primary level SSCs for concessionary travel till end Apr 2017. Students can still purchase the Bus Concession Pass (BCP) using their Primary level SSCs but they will need to purchase the BCP for Secondary School students.
