Dear secondary school students,

It is our pleasure to introduce today a line-up of extracurricular arts, sports, technology and academic programs for this school year.

We know that the athlete and competitor in you will find in our Flames program the individual or team sport that fits you best. We trust that the artist and performer in you will find in our new arts programs a sense of belonging and many opportunities to express yourself, and we understand the sense of accomplishment that the maker and technician in you will find in our technology programs.

Along the way, you will make new friends, build leadership and professional skills, gain in self confidence, share unique moments and, most importantly, have plenty of fun.

Make your choice, and see you soon after school in the gym, on stage and in the classroom.

For the Flames program

Registration is now open.

Returning Flames participants have already an account created and should use their user name and password to register. New participants will need to create their own account while registering.

Please note that families must create two different accounts to register for Flames and extracurricular programs. We are working on a greater synergy between our programs, and we are hoping to get this added layer of complexity resolved in the near future.

For extracurricular programs

Registration opens September 1st at 12:30pm

Due to an upgrade in our online registration system, all families will need to create a new account this year to register for our extracurricular programs. This account is the same for all registrations in the Centre d’Études et de Loisirs, for primary school and secondary school students.

Please note that families must create two different accounts to register for Extracurricular programs and Flames programs. We are working on a greater synergy between our programs, and we are hoping to get this added layer of complexity resolved in the near future.

SPORTS

Dear Flames Fans!

After 10 months at our new campus on Wilson Avenue, we can now say that the Flames are off to a wonderful start! We began a new chapter in our young history with a lot of successes: our new gymnasium saw our middle school girls basketball team finish second and third in the CAMS league, and the middle school girls soccer team won the title on our beautiful new soccer field.

Our new school not only allowed our athletes to be very successful, but it also gave our fans and parents the opportunity to enjoy spirited games full of passion and excitement! Besides the team sports, we finally opened our own swimming and golf teams. These two teams really showed their strengths and talents during the official games, rising to a challenging competition against excellent athletes. In soccer, our boys and girls high school teams reached the finals of their respective IHSA conferences; while the girls middle school soccer team won the title in the CAMS league. Our middle school girls basketball teams finished second and third in the CAMS league and our high school boys volleyball team had an amazing season, making it to the IHSA Metro Prep Conference finals. Our passionate and experienced coaches are, as always, ready to face the many challenges of the game to ensure that all our young athletes from fifth to twelfth grade have a unique and unforgettable athletic season. On behalf of the FLAMES, we hope you can join us for an excellent 2016-2017 season at Lycée Français de Chicago!

Extracurricular activities

SPORTS

Dear students and parents,

This second part of the brochure introduces a large choice of new extracurricular activities that are being offered to secondary school students.

At the core of this program is a production of Les Misérables, coupled with an opportunity to attend musical theater workshops with the cast of Hamilton in New York City in February for a limited number of students. Musical theater is an all-encompassing art form that not only requires a cast, but also musicians, set designers, fashion designers, digital artists and more. All these classes are being offered as well. This gives our students an opportunity to get involved in this adventure in multiple ways.

We also recommend that you check out our new technology programs, as well as our revamped middle school homework help program that will offer, upon request, support for group projects in the form of mentorship and advice on methodology.

We are looking forward to seeing you after school hours in our many extracurricular programs.

Sincerely,

Jacques Fournier Director of extracurricular programs

Homework Help & Group ProjectsMiddle school students registered in this program will enjoy a quiet space where they can do their homework independently while receiving support from teachers or high achieving college students.

Registered students benefit from advice to help reinforce effective homework practices, and a private space with methodology support can be set up for students working on group projects.

Attend this program every day of the week, or drop in any time between 3:45pm and 6:00pm. This makes it the perfect place to do your homework, to meet for a group project, to ask for support as needed or simply to wait for the start of your Flames activity.

Former Lycée student-teacher and Loyola graduate Clare McDonald will be coordinating this program, ensuring a follow-up with teachers, student services department and parents as needed. Students and parents are encouraged to contact Clare ahead of time to request support for a group project.

• Grade 6 to Grade 8 / 6e à 4e

• 5 days a week, 3:45 to 6:00pm

• $795 for the full year. Students registered in the cast of Les Misérables will receive a 50% discount for this program

This epic tale of broken dreams, passion and redemption is set against a nation in the throes of revolution. In nineteenth century France, Jean Valjean is released from years of unjust imprisonment, but finds nothing in store for him but mistrust and mistreatment. He breaks his parole in hopes of starting a new life, initiating a lifelong struggle for redemption as he is relentlessly pursued by police inspector Javert, who refuses to believe Valjean can change his ways.
