The Booth can be loaned to regional clubs for shipping costs. Only four clubs have asked for the material in the past four years. Rick also related that KCA has participated in the Meet the Breeds sponsored by AKC in New York City every year. Keeshond Pedigree Database: Carolyn Schaldecker discussed the Database. In 2007, the Database was presented to KCA by Rene Sauser and it housed Keeshond pedigrees and the health database. However, it has not been utilized by the membership. To continue hosting, it will now cost KCA a monthly fee. The Board will be surveying the membership to determine the future of this database. Legislative Liaison and Actions: Donna Powell does an excellent job of notifying the membership of various legislative proposals across the United States. Rick reminded the membership that because legislation is at the local level, regional clubs and their members can make a difference by reacting to adverse legislation in their area. Website Redesign: Carolyn Schaldecker has been in charge of the KCA website and done a great job of maintaining it. A committee was formed last year to redesign the website. Rick stated that web search engines are critical. The new website will help promote our breed to people interested in buying a puppy. The goal is to have the new website ready by the end of the summer.

Health Survey Update: Tawn Sinclair discussed that two years ago, KCA did a depository for DNA. She stated that it was very important for members who have DNA on record with OFA to continually update information on those dogs and bitches. Information gathered by OFA helps researchers determine what health issues should be researched based on the occurrence in a specific breed. Tawn passed out the Keeshond Health Survey final report. Tawn discussed the problems that occurred with the analyst who worked on the initial survey. Unfortunately, the analyst did not keep the original data base sheets. This means that some of the information is not meaningful or is missing in the final report. However, Tawn noted that there is some very useful information in the report. One of the largest numbers is cancer and KCA is currently supporting the Canine Health Foundation research on this issue. The other top diseases reported were Hypothyroidism, adult onset cataracts, alopecia, and deafness (in dogs over the age of 12). Tawn noted that the patella problems don’t match with OFA data base. Tawn also concluded that our breed does not have the major problems of many other breeds. Tawn stated that the Health surveys do help the breed club see trends in the breed. Old Business -- None. New Business: European Open Junior World Agility Championship: Claire O’Neal, the twelve year old daughter of member Karen O’Neal, has qualified for the European Open Junior World Agility championship in Austria in July of this year. President Rick Su presented a $2500 check from KCA to help sponsor and defer the costs of that trip to Austria. Newsletter: Debbie Hodges stated that the Secretary Report will be coming out in a timely manner. The Board has approved a bi-annual Newsletter which will be sent to the membership in July and February. The Newsletter will include the Regional and National specialty results and pictures. It will also include end of the year statistics. Cathy Bosnic will be chairing this project. Each regional club needs to send two copies of catalog and pictures of the winners to Cathy. The Newsletter will become part of the history of the breed which can be kept by the membership and the historian.

Proposal for Bylaw Amendment: John Malak discussed the need to change the Club fiscal year to match the IRS fiscal year. KCA files with IRS on June 30 with the fiscal year ending on July 31. John stated that the two dates need to coincide. Other dates will not be effected. Presentation of Petition: Donna Stekli presented a petition from Mary Ellen Meyer and herself with 66 member signatures. The petition asked for a Bylaw amendment to allow All KCA officers and Board members to be nominated and elected by the membership. Open Discussion Mae Evans has put together a CD which is a list of producers of Champion get. Contact Mae if one is interested in purchasing the CD. Holly Wisner asked the Board to reinstitute a Contract Committee for the National specialty that would require contracts two years in advance of the National. Donna Stekli discussed the continued issues with volume breeders as they are now registering their dogs with CKC. Adjournment: Linda Norton made a motion to adjourn. Joanne Reed seconded the motion. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 9:05PM

Sweepstakes Incentive The KCA Board recently approved the following new Sweepstakes Incentive in conjunction with the KCA National events: The breeder (first listed breeder) who registers an entire litter with AKC and has a puppy of that litter win the Regional Puppy Sweepstakes with the host club’s in conjunction Specialty, during the KCA National events, will be eligible to receive a $100 bonus. A card will be included with the win and it should be submitted to the Treasurer stating the entire litter is registered with AKC. The treasurer will then take the information to AKC for verification and, upon AKC verification, forward the award to the first listed breeder of said dog.

KCA Outstanding Sportsmanship Award

Nob & Irene Hadeishi

Willing club members who step in and help whenever and wherever needed. Recommended by Keeshond Club of Southern California, Long Beach Kennel Club, Southwest Obedience Club of L.A. and the Keeshond Club of America.

Criteria for Register of Merit and Register of Merit Excellent Rationale: To recognize the top 5% (ROM) and top 1% (ROMX) of Keeshond producers.  These awards are open to all Keeshonden, living or deceased, regardless of ownership. An achievement of ROM and ROMX is marked by a handsome certificate presented by the parent club. No one may use the title of ROM or ROMX until those dogs eligible are announced by the parent club at the Annual Awards Dinner. Requirements are as follows: ROM - Sire - 12 champions Dam - 8 champions. ROMX - Sire - 26 champions Dam - 11 champions. The requirements for ROM and ROMX are subject to review by the KCA Board of Directors every 5 years. The requirements may change to accommodate the percentage of Keeshonden intended to earn these awards. ROMs should total only 5% of the Keeshond sires and dams that have produced champion offspring in the history of the breed in the USA, and ROMXs should total only 1% of the Keeshond sires and dams that have produced champion offspring in the history of the breed. Criteria for Hall of Fames Rationale: 1. To provide permanent recognition of the top

winning Keeshonden in CONFORMATION, OBEDIENCE, AGILITY, and TRACKING.

2. To provide for an award that would have more lasting value and honor than simply winning Top Show Keeshond of a given year.

3. To develop a system of eligibility that is equitable to both dogs and bitches.

4. To provide eligibility requirements that are sufficiently strict to assure that only the true GREATS of the breed are included; the HOF should not include a Keeshond that wins one or two Group Is or a High In Trial.

5. The HOF is open to all owners of Keeshonden, not just KCA members.

Conformation Eligibility

1. Only wins made in the United States at AKC shows shall apply.

2. Dogs must be Champions of Record. 3. Males must have earned 125 HOF points

and 1000 Phillips points. 4. Females must have earned 25 HOF points

and 200 Phillips points. Phillips Point System for HOF based on Conformation

Wins Best in Show 10 points Group 1 5 points Group 2 4 points Group 3 3 points Group 4 2 points Best of Breed at National Specialty 5 points Best of Opposite Sex at National Specialty

3 points

Best of Breed at Specialty held in conjunction with National Specialty

Phillips Points System for Conformation Points awarded to each dog placing in a group based on the number of dogs defeated. 1 point for each dog defeated minus 1 point for the dog awarded the win. (i.e. - 4th place in Group defeated the Bulldog having a breed entry of 10, the Dalmatian having a breed entry of 18, & the Standard Poodle having a breed entry of 8.) The breed of the 4th place winner had an entry of 12. The 4th place dog would receive 10 + 18 + 11 (12 minus self) or 47 Phillips points. Both HOF & Phillips points are required in order to insure that the dog has beaten significant competition in order to receive the award. The requirements for this award are subject to review by the KCA Board of Directors every 5 years.

Obedience Eligibility 1. Only wins made in the United States at AKC

shows shall apply
