Leominster Lassie LeaguOctober 4, 2017Meeting Time: 7:05
Attendance: 11 including board members. See attendance sheet for individual names and email addresses.
*Minutes from September 6, 2017 distributed by Dawn, read and accepted by Julie and Scott.
*Question to Wayne about rules. Wayne suggested that the board and Wayne sit down and discuss rules.
*Treasurer’s Report approximately $20,000. Checks need to clear before accurate totals.
*One individual still has not paid. Family of 3 girls requested discount and granted.
*One individual from spring has not paid.
*T-shirts all paid.
OLD BUSINESS
*Bleachers: Aaron Brown came on Sunday to discuss the bleachers.
*Problem: the bleacher cannot fit on field 3 by the boulder.
*Field 2, feasible, just cut branches.
*Field 1b will be located behind backstop.
*Company will do prep and set up.
*Students from CTE came to repair current bleachers. No labor just paid for supplies.
*Retro-fit the bleachers for the plastic safety feature. Ask the welding students.
*Final order: 2 bleachers instead of 3
*3 new picnic tables by the concession stands. $3600.
* Proposal: buy 3 more bleachers with the money saving from the savings of the bleachers. Ultimately, the wish is to have each field have one picnic tables.
*Order now but do not deliver until spring.
*Aaron is willing to give deals with the more we buy.
*Need to chain or lock the picnic benches so they are secure and not “walk off.”
* Final decision: 6 bleachers to be ordered. Blue. Same amount of money that was voted on in September but instead of purchasing 3 bleachers we will order 2 bleachers, and 6 picnic tables.
FALL BALL
*Teams not evenly matched especially in 18U and 12U.
*Issue with girls signing up for a higher level before they are ready.
*Options: A or B level or only team pre-built.
*Will discuss before fall ball next year.
*Option for now: Cap the runs per inning at 5 upon the agreement before the game, upon the agreement of the 2 coaches.
*Teams right now are borrowing pitchers from other teams.
NEW BUSINESS
*Equipment Manager: Scott Wheeler voted in.
*Collect bags from fall ball coaches
*Sponsorship Coordinator position is still open.
*Send email out seeking the position.
*Plaques are ordered and will be delivered to the 2017 sponsors. Plaques were ordered through Molly Baxter.
*USA (ASA) softball Umpires: Fee $45, $35 for team registration if insurance provided.
*Motion to accept USA umpires accepted for the youth and women.
*Concession stand: backsplash bought and will be put up soon.
*Tournament: Wayne asked that we host a state tournament.
*Our role: run the tournament. Field prep and concession stand. Fees paid by the state. Schedule and registration run by the state.
*Wayne will be the on-site coordinator.
*Down Fall: cannot limit the number of teams so more fields may be used.
*Possibility of Wayne renting out the fields and concession stands.
*Next month we will talk about rental fees for the state tournament.
*Skirt in the Dirt tournaments dates discussed next meeting and possibility of adding a u10 tournament.
*Wayne will send forms to Nichole so by next month we can make decisions.
*Concession stand update: new shelves in the vault for extra stock. Cost of supplies only.
*Used oil containers were picked up by a company. The rest of the oil will be picked up by another man to use for his car?
*Air Fryer for Fries. Positive reaction to the chicken fingers over the past weekend.
*Tara is looking for one for the French fries.
*Pop Warner uses a machine for fries and chicken fingers and is able to use them inside the concession stand. Still uses oil but has compression so able to cook French fries and chicken fingers inside the stand per code.
*Fall Clean-up Day: October 29th is the last day. Nichole is working on getting the inmates to come and work on the field. Payment is food. Then the parents and girls can finish the rest of the clean-up. Then we will close the concession stand and end of the year field maintenance.
*Spring season: possibility of joining Wachusett league to add more teams or adding levels to add more competition in the spring. Pitching is the main issue in the divisions so how do we develop the pitching. Wachusett has 10 teams and is USA softball, unlike the Fitchburg league because they are Babe Ruth. Just the minors??
*Schedule needs to be out by April so a decision needs to be made. Wayne will try to work out an agreement with the league.
*Spring season reformatted so only practice during the week and then the games will be on Sunday.
*Possibility of a high school girl mentor program. Possibility of a standard based objectives for coaches and to tell what skill should be developed in what level.

Try Outs – Scheduled for Feb 24th 8-1 and March 3rd 4-8. We need coaches to help out with the ratings and drills 3. Equipment swap – will advertise an equipment swap for the same dates as the try outs. 4. Fundraisers- Friday may 18th at the Knights of Columbus we are going to have a comedy night fundraiser. Nichole reserved the Knights of Columbus for $150 and got a group of comedians for $500. We will hold a presale for $15 and at the door $20. We can try to get other donations for a raffle table and do a 50/50 drawing as well. 5. Bids – Received bids from: Lakeview Landscape for 27, 231 for the fields and the irrigation Green Team Landscaping who separated all of the duties – spring clean up 1600, fall clean up1900, weed control 450, empty trash 40/each time, dragging fields 80/each time, mowing 400/cut, fertilizer program 2,680 for season Beacon Landscaping 500 for spring clean up, fall 650, weedwack foul lines 50/week, mow 400/week empty trash 90/week, and they do not do irrigation We compared it to last year 2017-2018 season where we paid out Beacon $20,712 for field maintenance , Jacob Gasbarro $1,335 to empty trash, Mitchell irrigation 3,979.25 for a total of 26,026.25 for all of the field maintenance. The different bids were discussed and we agreed to change the estimated services of Lakeview’s bid not to include the spring or fall clean up or the trash services which would drop the bid to $24,156 and then also cut back on the field dragging during the summer which would lessen it even more. This would be less than total payout last year and it was agreed to do trash ourselves or pay a teenager $10/hour to do trash 1-2 times each week. This would have 1 contractor for all of the services for the complex. Everyone voted to accept Lakeview with those changes. 6. Spring clean up – Nichole will contact the inmates to help with clean up and set up for the complex 7. Other -Picnic tables need to be stained -Can we ask the city about lights at least from the street coming up into the complex. Nichole will contact the city counselor in the area.

also abstain from voting on matters in this division.

(add) Article XV - Awards and Scholarships
Section 1: Ruth Piermarini Award:
This award is given to one graduating Leominster Lassie League player who has played in the league for at least 5 years.
This player has demonstrated positive sportsmanship and would be considered a role model to younger players. This
player shows effort on the field, is an encouraging team player and has a good overall personality. This person does well
academically and gives back to her community through volunteering and being involved in other activities. The recipient
for this award should be a well-rounded individual with a positive attitude who represents Lassie League in a positive
manner and who will go on to make positive contributions in the community.
Section 1A: Nominations of the award: Each Major division team will nominate 1 graduating player from their team who
they feel meets the qualifications for this award. (Teams that do not have any graduating players will not nominate a
player but will still vote for the award winner) Coaches will submit a short narrative stating why this player was
nominated during the June board meeting. All registered Major division coaches, present at the meeting, will then vote for
the graduating player that they feel is the best nominee for the award. The winner of the award will receive a plaque
during the awards ceremony.
Section 2: Grace Celi Scholarship
