The potential magnitude of Hendershot's discov-eries was so great, that it was soon snapped up by the American press, andHendershot became a national celebrity overnight. Realising the possibleimpact that such an invention could have on the US economy, the wealthyindustrialists, who controlled the power and fossil fuel markets, were quickto act, and within just a few days the entire incident was buried in thearchives of the American press.Within those few days of National prominence, Hendershot was to suffer adebilitating injury from an electric shock, threats to his life and humiliationin an attempt to brand him as a fraud.
