The big secrets for tile cleaning can be

found at your home or neighborhood

• Hydrogen peroxide - you spray hydrogen peroxide on

the surface, wait at least 30 minutes and then scrub with a nylon-

bristle cleaning brush. As a whitening agent, hydrogen peroxide is

remarkably effective

Things you can find in your kitchen

• Vinegar (a dilute acid).

• Baking soda (here a poultice is made for

scrubbing).

• Bon Ami (this is calcium carbonate — a green

option that will require some scrubbing).

• Borax (scrubbing required).

• Test your grout cleaner on a small,

inconspicuous area first to make sure that it

won't erode or damage your grout work. This is

especially necessary if your tile grout is old or

damaged.

• Never mix cleaners together! Chemical

reactions can cause noxious fumes or

burns if the mixture touches the skin.
