B. Product Data

Provide manufacturer’s specification information showing dimensions, colors, and configurations. 1. Collect Product Data into a single submittal for each element of construction or system.

Product Data includes printed information such as manufacturer’s installation instructions, catalog cuts, standard color charts, roughing-in diagrams and templates, standard wiring diagrams and performance curves.

2. Mark each copy to show applicable choices and options. Where printed Product Data includes information on several products, some of which are not required, mark copies to indicate the applicable information.

3. Submit required number of copies of Product Data for Engineer’s review. 4. Do not begin fabrication of work which requires submittals until return of submittals with

Engineer’s approval. 5. Contractor shall provide binders for each copy of shop drawing data. The binders shall be

complete with index, tabs, legend and cross-reference to the applicable item and specification section. Each tab shall include related specification sections. All submittal data shall be original printed material or good grade permanent copy. Fax and poor quality copies are not acceptable.

6. Do not proceed with installation until an applicable copy of Product Data with the Engineer’s submittal review stamp is in the Installer’s possession.

7. Contractor shall submit shop drawings illustrating CATV distribution design including locations of all passive and active hardware and equipment. Tap and splitter values shall be shown to indicate final equalized signal to each CATV outlet location. All testing and balancing shall be performed to industry standards and submitted prior to final approval from owner/architect.

C. Manufacturer’s Instructions

Indicate application conditions and limitations of use stipulated by product testing agency specified under regulatory requirements. Include instructions for storage, handling, protection, examination, preparation, operation and installation of product. A technical data sheet from the manufacturer should be included with the response for each product proposed. This data sheet shall include the physical specifications, as well as the following electrical and transmission characteristics:

D. Pre-Qualification Certificate Submit a letter of approval from the manufacture indicating completion of pre-qualification requirements. Training certificates for design, engineering and installation of the proposed products shall be submitted with the proposal

E. Factory Test Vendor shall submit all factory test information prior to installation to the Project Manager. If equivalent product(s) are substituted, the equivalent product(s) must show demonstrated and documented equivalence to the product(s) specified.

F. Bid Vendor will submit complete detailed bids. Lump sum bids will not be accepted.

G. Material Guarantee The wiring vendor (installer) shall guarantee at the time of the bid that all Category 5 Enhanced and Category 6 cabling and components meet or exceed specifications (including installation) of appropriate sections of TIA/EIA-568B and 569A.

H. Material Provided Vendor shall be certain that all correct parts are ordered and installed. Vendor shall submit complete parts and part numbers prior to installation of equipment.

I. Product and Applications Assurance Warranty Documentation Complete documentation regarding the manufacturers’ warranty shall be submitted as part of the price proposal. This will include a sample of the warranty that would be provided to Owner when the installation is complete and documentation of the support procedure for warranty is-sues. The systems application assurance manual, documenting the vendor supported applica-tions and application guidelines, will be provided as part of the submittals.

J. As-Built Documentation Upon completion of the project, The Cable Contractor is to prepare "As Built" documentation showing actual site conditions and installation as constructed, and provide copies of such docu-mentation. Submit newly prepared information, legible and readable, drawn to accurate scale. Highlight, encircle or otherwise indicate deviations from Contract Documents. Do not repro-duce Contract Documents or copy standard information (product data, etc.) as basis of Shop Drawings. Standard information prepared without specific reference to the Project is not consi-dered a Shop Drawing. Shop Drawings not complying with these requirements may be rejected & returned for resubmittal. 1. Riser and Cross connection diagrams - includes:

K. Shop Drawings: Include dimensioned plan and elevation views of each individual component. Show equipment assemblies, method of field assembly, workspace requirements, and access for cable connections.

1. System labeling schedules, including electronic copy of labeling schedules, as specified in Part 3, in software and format selected by Owner.

2. Wiring diagrams. Show typical wiring schematics including the following:

a. Workstation outlets, jacks, and jack assemblies. b. Patch cords. c. Patch panels. d. Fiber-optic patch panels. e. Wall fields f. Active Consolidation Points

L. Product Certificates: For each type of cable, connector, and terminal equipment, signed by product manufacturer.

M. Operation and Maintenance Data: For voice and data communication cabling to include in emergency, operation, and maintenance manuals.

1.6 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Manufacturer The products specified on the drawings and in this specification are the basis of design. Alter-nates may be considered with prior approval from owner before bid due date. Manufacturer shall have a minimum of five (5) years’ experience and ISO Certified 9001.

B. Installer Qualifications: 1. Shall have on staff a Registered Communication Distribution Designer (RCDD) certified

by Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI). 2. Shall be BICSI-certified & certified by the product manufacturer in all aspects of design,

installation, and testing of the products described herein. 3. Shall have a minimum of five (5) years experience on similar cabling systems.

C. Installer Resume: A resume shall be submitted with the proposal including the following: 1. A list of recently completed projects of similar type and size with contact names and

telephone numbers for each project. 2. A list of test equipment proposed for use in verifying the installed integrity of metallic

and fiber optic cable systems on this project. 3. A technical resume of experience for the installer’s Project Manager and on-site

installation supervisor who will be assigned to the project. 4. A list of technical product training attended by the installer’s personnel that will be

working on the project.

D. Source Limitations: Obtain all products except twisted-pair and fiber-optic cables through one source from a single manufacturer.

E. Electrical Components, Devices, and Accessories: Listed and labeled as defined in NFPA 70, Article 100, by a testing agency acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction, and marked for intended use.

F. Comply with NFPA 70.

1.7 COORDINATION

A. Coordinate building entrance with other utility entrances. Coordinate layout and installation of voice and data communication cabling with Owner's telecommunications and LAN equipment suppliers, and campus site plan if applicable. Follow all code requirements including any private or utility locates during construction.

1.8 WARRANTY

A. No less than a 20-year Extended Product Warranty and System Assurance Warranty shall be provided for the cabling system solution.

B. Extended Product Warranty The Extended Product Warranty shall ensure against product defects; that all approved cabling components exceed the specifications of TIA/EIA 568B and ISO/IEC IS 11801 Addendum 2; exceed the requirements of those standards for cabling channels; and that the installation will exceed the loss and bandwidth requirements for fiber channels for a minimum 20-year period. The warranty shall apply to all passive SCS components.

C. System Assurance The System Assurance shall cover the failure of the wiring system to support the application

which it was designed to support, as well as additional application(s) introduced in the future by recognized standards or user forums that recognize TIA/EIA 568B or ISO/IEC IS 11801 Ad-dendum 2 component and channel specifications for cabling, for a minimum 20-year period.

D. System Certification Upon successful completion of the installation and subsequent inspection, Owner shall be pro-vided with a registered certificate, from the manufacturing company, certifying the installation.

1.9 DESCRIPTION

A. General Descriptions

1. Structured Cabling System

Furnish and install, complete with all accessories, a Structured Cabling System (SCS). The SCS shall serve as the vehicle for media signaling transport of voice, and data tele-phony throughout the network from designated demarcation points to outlets located at various desks, workstations and other locations indicated on the contract drawings and described herein.

2. Telephone Company Connectivity This installation is to connect to new telecommunications service infrastructure. Cross-connects at the demarcation point shall be coordinated with service provider and owner. All installation, termination, labeling and testing shall be considered the responsibility of the telecommunications cabling contractor.

3. Voice and Data Wiring utilized for voice and data communications outlets shall originate at equipment placed in 84” x 19” vertical freestanding equipment racks, a tie cable to the rack shall originate from a wall field as shown on contract drawings. All cabling and connectivity components necessary between these designated points of interconnect and their respec-tive outlet locations identified on the plan drawings shall be considered part of the con-tract and shall be furnished, installed and certified by the SCS contractor. Wireless Access Points shall be wired for future use. Wireless equipment is not included in this contract, and may be supplied by the Owner in the future.

B. Service Entrance Room / BDF The building will be provided telecommunications service by the Access Provider serving the property. It has not yet been determined if fiber optic service is available at the site. This service entrance will be underground and consist of an appropriate quantity of raceways to provide for the current and expanded needs of the facility. The telecommunications service will terminate at the demarcation point located in the Main Electric Room.

C. BDF BDF shall house data network equipment, voice components (PBX), building distribution rack, servers and active components.

1.10 SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR CABLE ROUTING AND INSTALLATION

A. Cable Pathway In suspended ceilings where duct, J-hooks or conduit have not been specified, the Contractor shall bundle, in groups of 50 or less, all station wiring with plastic or Velcro cable ties snug, but not to the point of deforming the cable geometry. All cable bundling shall be supported by Ca-ble Tray and/or J-Hooks attached to the existing building structure and framework at a maxi-mum of five (5) foot intervals. Sleeves shall be appropriately sized to all applicable codes and standards; provided and installed for all wall penetrations. Cabling shall be plenum rated and the cabling contractor shall adhere to the manufacturers’ requirements for bending radius and pulling tension of all data and voice cables.

B. Fire Stopping Any Penetrations

created and/or utilized for cable passage between floors or through fire-/smoke-rated barriers and assemblies will be firestopped by the cabling contractor. Firestopping materials and methods shall be in accordance with all Manufacturers requirements and shall be accomplished in an acceptable manner with all-local fire and building authorities having juris-diction over the work. Any penetrations created for the passage of telecommunications, either by or for cabling contractor, which remains vacant at the completion of the installation, will also be firestopped by the cable contractor as part of this work.

The Cable Contractor will be responsible for any damages to any surfaces or work disrupted as a result of his work. Repair of surfaces, including painting, will be included as necessary.

1.11 TRAINING

A. Contractor shall provide a minimum of 8 hours of staff training at a time to be coordinated with the owner. The purpose of this training is to provide necessary information to the owner’s staff in the proper use and maintenance of the installed systems.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 MANUFACTURERS

A. Available Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, manufacturers offering products that may be incorporated into the Work include, but are not limited to, the following:

2.2 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

A. General: Coordinate the features of materials and equipment so they form an integrated system. Match components and interconnections for optimum future performance.

B. Expansion Capability: Unless otherwise indicated, provide spare fibers and conductor pairs in cables, positions in cross-connect and patch panels, and terminal strips to accommodate no less than 20 percent future increase in active workstations.

2.3 MOUNTING ELEMENTS

A. Raceways and Boxes: Comply with Division 16 Section "Raceways and Boxes."

B. Backboards: 3/4-inch (19-mm)

C. Distribution Racks: Freestanding modular-steel units designed for telecommunications terminal support and coordinated with dimensions of units to be supported.

2.4 OUTLETS All Category 6 outlets shall conform to TIA/EIA 568B2.1 Commercial Building Telecommuni-cations Cabling Standard, Horizontal Cable Section, and be part of the UL LAN Certification and Follow-up Program, and shall meet or exceed the following electrical and mechanical speci-fications:

1. Electrical Specifications:

a. TIA/EIA 568B2.1 minimum requirements for specified category. b. Insulation Resistance: 500 MW minimum. c. Dielectric withstands voltage 1,000 VAC RMS, 60 Hz minimum, contact-to-

contact and 1,500 VAC RMS, 60 Hz minimum from any contact to exposed conductive surface.

2.5 CATEGORY 6, 4-PAIR UTP CABLING

A. Support bandwidth applications per standard

B. Outer jacket: Provide plenum rated cable where required, provide white sheath for voice jacks (upper jack in combination outlets and wall phones), provide blue sheath for all data jacks.

2.6 EQUIPMENT RACKS

A. The racks shall be made of lightweight metal, black in color and include steel mounting hardware for mounting patch panels and other equipment to the frame. In addition, the rack must provide vertical and horizontal wireways for cross-connect cabling. Racks shall be four post enclosed with glass door and fan.

B. The minimum rack size shall be a standard 19-inch rack with sufficient rack space to allow the structured cabling to terminated at the top of the rack with room remaining for Owner supplied network and electronic security equipment to be placed in the lower part of the rack. Wire management panels will be installed between patch panels for front and rear cable management. Vertical wire manager will be installed in-between and on outer edges of racks.

C. Racks shall be mounted on an isolation pad and utilize non-conductive washers to secure the rack to the floor. Floor mounted open racks will be secured from the top rail to the backboard in the room with a length of cable runway to prevent movement. All racks will be grounded to the isolated ground bar within the MDF/IDF using a standard ground lug and #6 jacketed green cable.

D. All racks to be supported with bracket attached to the wall directly or through attachment to ladder rack.

2.7 PATCH CORDS

A. Provide Category 6 Modular Patch Cords for each port on the patch panels, as well as 10’ patch cords for all work area outlets. All cords shall conform to the requirements of EIA/TIA 568-B2.1 Commercial Building Telecommunications Cabling Standard, Horizontal Cabling Section. Contractor will install all patch cords within closets.

B. All Category 6 cordage shall be round, and consist of 24-AWG copper, stranded conductors, tightly twisted into individual pairs and shall meet or exceed the electrical specifications listed in ANSI/TIA/EIA 568 B2.1.

2.8 MODULAR PATCH PANEL SYSTEM

A. The data termination blocks shall be a patch panel to support the appropriate Category 6 applications and facilitate cross connection and inter connection using modular patch cords.

B. All Modular jack panels shall be wired to EIA/TIA 568B.

C. The wiring block shall be able to accommodate 23 AWG cable conductors.

D. The block shall be Underwriter's Laboratories (UL) listed.

E. All modular cross connect panels shall be UL listed

2.9 CABLE LUBRICANT

A. Cable Manufacturer’s suggested cable pulling lubricant, shall be utilized when pulling all cable.

2.10 LADDER RACK

A. Ladder rack shall be used for vertical cabling and shall be eighteen (18) or twelve (12) inches wide with one and one-half (1-1/2) inch solid bar stringer, and rungs spaced at nine (9) inches.

2.11 J-HOOK

A. J-hooks shall be used for backbone and horizontal cabling where specified.

B. J-hooks shall be supported by the structure.

C. The space between every J-hook shall not be more than 5 feet.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

A. Examine pathway elements intended for cables. Check raceways, cable trays, and other elements for compliance with space allocations, installation tolerances, hazards to cable installation, and other conditions affecting installation. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

3.2 APPLICATION OF MEDIA

A. Horizontal Cable for Voice & Data Service: Use Category 5e for data and voice cables for runs between wiring closet and workstation outlets.

3.3 INSTALLATION

A. Wiring Method: Install wiring and optical fiber in raceway and J-hooks except within consoles, cabinets, desks, and counters. Use UL-listed Plenum cable in environmental air spaces, including plenum ceilings. Conceal raceway and cables except in unfinished spaces.

B. Install cables using techniques, practices, and methods that are consistent with Category 5e rating of components and that ensure Category 5e performance of completed and linked signal paths, end to end.

C. Install cables without damaging conductors, shield, or jacket.

D. Do not bend cables, in handling or in installing, to smaller radii than minimums recommended by manufacturer.

E. All Cat5E shall be wired to 568B pin-out.

F. Pull cables without exceeding cable manufacturer's recommended pulling tensions.

1. Pull cables simultaneously if more than one is being installed in same raceway. 2. Use pulling compound or lubricant if necessary. Use compounds that will not damage

conductor or insulation. 3. Use pulling means, including fish tape, cable, rope, and basket-weave wire or cable grips,

that will not damage media or raceway.

G. Install exposed cables parallel and perpendicular to surfaces or exposed structural members and follow surface contours where possible.

I. Wiring within Wiring Closets and Enclosures: Provide conductors of adequate length. Train conductors to terminal points with no excess. Use lacing bars to restrain cables, to prevent straining connections, and to prevent bending cables to smaller radii than minimums recommended by manufacturer.

J. Separation of Wires: Comply with TIA/EIA-569-A-7 rules for separating unshielded copper voice and data communication cabling from potential EMI sources, including electrical power lines and equipment.

3.5 GROUNDING

B. The Telecommunications Grounding and Bonding System shall be independent of the Electrical Grounding and Bonding System except where the Telecommunications Main Grounding Busbar (TMGB) is bonded to the Electrical Main Grounding Busbar.

C. Ground equipment to eliminate shock hazard and to minimize ground loops, common-mode returns, noise pickup, cross-talk, and other impairments.

D. Telecommunications Main Grounding Busbar (TMGB): TC shall furnish & install on wall of equipment room (MDF) with standoff insulators. TC shall coordinate to ensure adequate length, proper location, etc.

E. Telecommunications Grounding Busbars (TGB): TC shall furnish & install on wall of telecommunications rooms (IDFs) with standoff insulators. TC shall coordinate to ensure adequate length, proper location, etc.

F. Telecommunications Bonding Backbone: TC shall bond all TGBs to the TMGB using minimum grounding conductor size, compliant with ANSI/TIA/EIA J-STD-607.

G. Individual items may be loop connected to the Telecommunications Bonding Backbone (TBB) provided length sizing criteria are followed. All TBB’s shall terminate on a TMGB. TMGB shall be installed as indicated on the contract documents. TMGB shall be bonded to main building electrical service ground at the service entrance.

H. All grounding components shall be labeled per ANSI/TIA/EIA-606.

3.6 INSTALLATION IN EQUIPMENT ROOMS AND WIRING CLOSETS

A. Install plywood backboards on walls of equipment rooms and wiring closets from floor to ceiling where indicated on drawings. Plywood shall be 4’ x 8’ x ¾” fire-rated.

B. Mount patch panels on racks; terminal strips, and other connecting hardware on backboards, unless otherwise indicated.

C. Group connecting hardware for cables into separate logical fields.

D. Use patch panels to terminate cables entering the space, unless otherwise indicated.

3.7 INSTALLATION STANDARDS

A. Comply with requirements in ANSI/TIA/EIA-568-B and ANSI/TIA/EIA-569-A-7.

3.8 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL

A. Perform the following field tests and inspections and prepare test reports, or engage a qualified testing and inspecting agency to do so:

1. Operational Test: After installation of cables and connectors, demonstrate product capability and compliance with requirements. Test each signal path for end-to-end performance from each end of all pairs installed. Remove temporary connections when tests have been satisfactorily completed.

2. Copper Cable Procedures: Inspect for physical damage and test each conductor signal path for continuity and shorts. Test for faulty connectors, splices, and terminations. Test according to TIA/EIA-568B, "Transmission Performance Specifications for Field Testing of Unshielded Twisted-Pair Cabling Systems." Link performance for UTP cables must meet minimum criteria of ANSI/TIA/EIA-568-B.

B. Remove malfunctioning units, replace with new units, and retest as specified above.

3.9 PROJECT DIRECTION

A. Single Point of Contact The Cable Contractor will provide a single point of contact, i.e., Project Manager, to speak for the Contractor and to provide the following functions: 1. Initiate and coordinate tasks with owner, its General Contractor, Architect, and others as

specified owner. 2. Provide day-to-day direction and on-site supervision of Contractor personnel. 3. Ensure conformance with all Contract provisions.

3.10 TESTING/WARRANTY

A. Copper Cable Testing

Testing of all copper wiring shall be performed prior to system cutover. One Hundred percent (100%) of the horizontal and riser-wiring pairs will be tested for opens, shorts, polarity rever-sals, transposition and presence of AC voltage. Voice and data horizontal wiring pairs shall be tested from the information outlet to the TC. The Category 6 cable runs will be tested for con-formance to the specifications of EIA/TIA 568B. Testing shall be done with a TIA/EIA 568B UL Certified Level 2 test set. The contractor, at no charge shall bring any pairs not meeting the requirements of the standard into compliance to the owner. Complete, end-to-end test results must be submitted to the owner in electronic form and hard copy form.

B. Pre-Installation Cable Testing The Contractor shall test all optical cable prior to the installation of the cable. The Contractor shall assume all liability for the replacement of the cable should it be found defective at a later date.

C. Documentation shall be provided in both hard copy and CD-R to the point of contact.

D. Additional Warranty The Cable Contractor shall state any additional Contractor supplied warranty.

E. The owner shall have the right to observe and witness all SCS Testing. The owner shall be notified at least two weeks prior to testing, and be provided with a testing schedule.

3.11 COMPLETION OF WORK

A. At the completion of the Cable System, the Cable Contractor will restore to its former condition, all aspects of the project site and on a daily basis, shall remove all waste and excess materials, rubbish, debris, tools and equipment resulting from or used in the services provided under this Contract. All clean up; restoration, and removal noted above will be by the Cable Contractor and at no cost to the owner. If the Cable Contractor fails in its duties under this

paragraph, the owner may upon notice to the Cable Contractor perform the necessary clean up and deduct the costs thereof from any amounts due or to become due to the Cable Contractor. The owner, through the General Contractor will provide a Dumpster for the use of the Cable Contractor. It shall be the Cable Contractor's responsibility to remove trash from the areas it is working in and bring trash and debris to the Dumpster. The Cable Contractor will not use the General Contractor's dumpsters or other trash disposal without prior approval of the General Contractor.

3.12 INSPECTION

A. The Project Manager and/or the SCS System Manager shall perform periodic progress inspections throughout the duration of the cabling construction. All work shall be performed in a high quality manner and the overall appearance shall be clean, neat and orderly.
