BLLight mica BioCote anti-bacterial finish, generally on aluminium.Oven cured powder coating effectiveagainst harmful micro-organisms includingMRSA, E-Coli and Salmonella.

In conjunction with good hygiene practicessuch as increased surveillance, greatereducation and frequent hand washingBioCote offers a secondary level ofprotection against cross-contamination.

BioCote is an effective product inprotection against harmful bacteriaincluding MRSA, E-Coli and Salmonella.BioCote inhibits the growth of micro-organisms thus forming an effective part ofa good hygienic procedure.

BioCote does not function in the same wayas antibiotics and therefore, to date, nobacteria have become resistant to BioCoteas they can to some antibiotics.

BioCote is durable and the advanced-surface coating under normal use will lastat least 10 years. The surface finish is moreresistant to chipping, scratching, fading andwear than other wet-sprayed finishes. Thecoating is applied through the “heat-seal-oven-baked” process and is permanentlycoated to ironmongery products.

Over 5 years of research, testing anddevelopment has been carried out.Products are independently tested anddemonstrate the antibacterial effectivenessthroughout the product’s lifetime.

BioCote offers that extra level of protectionin the fight against infection, particularlyrelevant considering there is an increase inthe number of antibiotic resistant bacteria.

BioCote is a patent-protected powdercoating technology that has excellentadvanced anti-bacterial qualities. The activeagent is based on natural products that areproven to be safe.

Care and maintenance

Once fitted and in use, it is essential thatregular inspection and cleaning is carriedout to give many years of satisfaction.

FinishesPreventing corrosion and deterioration iseasier than trying to restore a qualityfinish. To avoid the risk of damage, decorative and other exposed items ofhardware should not be fitted untilimmediately before handover of the areaand after the work of other trades in thearea is complete.

Hardware should not be fitted to anysurface before the decoration of the surfaceis complete. If subsequent redecoration ortouching up is required, the hardwareshould be removed from the surface andrefitted after the finish is fully dry. In nocircumstances should masking tape or thelike be applied to hardware surfaces, as thismay damage protective coatings.

The following list is a general guide to careand maintenance of finishes. Wherereference is made to aerosol lubricants, werecommend ‘WD40’ or a PTFE lubricant.

Modric Anodised Aluminium – MAWipe clean with a weak solution ofwashing-up liquid using a soft cloth orsponge.

Satin Stainless Steel and Platinic Stainless Steel – SS • PSWipe clean with a medium strengthdetergent or white spirit using a soft clothor sponge. In the event of dirt havingaccumulated, application of aerosollubricant prior to standard cleaning isrecommended. A harsh brush should neverbe used.

Polished Brass, Patinting Bronze,BioCote and Spectra Colour Coating –PB • PZ • BS • BC • BD • TAWipe clean with a weak solution ofwashing-up liquid using a soft cloth orsponge, rinse and dry with a dry soft cloth.Do not use any form of metal polish orabrasive as this will destroy the protectivecoating.

Note: The proprietary products mentionedabove are given only as a guide for thequality to be used.

See ‘Care and Maintenance’ at thebeginning of each section.

Allgood Hardware Pozidriv/SupadrivscrewsAllgood Hardware Pozidriv/Supadriv screwsshould be driven home so that the slots onthe heads are horizontally and verticallyaligned. The correct size Allgood Hardwarescrewdriver must be used (see below).Particular care should be taken when fixingSpectra coated screws; each fixing shouldfirst be ‘piloted’ with an equivalent screwwhich can then be replaced with theSpectra coated one.

XX5321Pozidriv/Supadriv screwdriver, for 4–6g self-tapping screws.XX5322Pozidriv/Supadriv screwdriver, for 6–10gwood screws.XX5323Pozidriv/Supadriv screwdriver, for 12–16gscrews.

Allen screw fixingsWhere Allen screw fixings are used, theappropriate key is provided.

GeneralAll fixings and grub screws must be secure, and this should be checked regularly; loosefixings allow ‘play’ which will reduce thelongevity of all architectural hardware andpossibly cause damage to the door face.

Sembla

3.2

SemblaThe door handle is special. In a way it isthe last bastion of expression for thearchitect. Whilst most other buildingcomponents have become entirelystandardised or entirely customised, doorfurniture manufacturers offer a vast rangeof styles to cater for all architectural trends.

Sembla is the latest range from Allgood. This component system establishes a newdirection for architectural ironmongery bylaunching a complete original method ofconstructing door furniture.

Sembla offers a distinctive but recognisableimage – functional and consistent in itsmechanism but easily adaptable –attractive to architect and to client alike.

It was created by the UK design groupA.S.K. in partnership with Allgood, anddraws on the designers’ substantialexperience in designing building productsthroughout Europe.

Sembla is built up around a core piece –the node – which makes the physicalconnection to the lock, the door or thewall.

Around the node, a choice of levers, pullhandle grips and tips are assembled in thefactory to form complete products. In thisway, a variety of door handles is available, all with a uniting element which identifiesthem as Sembla.

The proportion and detailing of the junctionbetween node, tip and lever ensure thatthe simplest lever handle will stand as aclassic. Other tip and lever designs createmore design options and the choice of tipsand levers can be used on either end of theSembla pull handle.

The materials options Sembla has, allow itto facilitate zoning, thus the basement of abuilding as well as the boardrooms can beaccommodated within the range – usingthe same mechanism-to-lock interface.

All lever handles are factory assembledusing patented military specification, self-locking thread form fixings.

Items are available in anodised aluminiumor Grade 316 satin or polished stainlesssteel and are designed to operate inconjunction with the Allgood hardwarerange of mechanical products.

The Sembla designs conceal a strength anddurability suited to the most arduous ofenvironments.

Exhaustive tests have been conducted inexcess of European Standards requirementsand the entire Sembla programme carries a10 year warranty. The handles shown onthe following pages are the standardrecommended configurations which areavailable from stock.

All Sembla lever sets have 3rd party testevidence to BS EN 1906, classification.4 7 – 1 1 4 0 U

Mode

3.3

Mode is the programme of striking, uniquedoor furniture, designed and produced byAllgood. Mode products were originallyconceived by Alan Tye, Royal Designer forIndustry, for inclusion within the Modricrange.

Now Mode has come to represent a classicrange including examples of the best of UKdoor furniture available.

Mode is a range of distinctive designs, suchas Quaver, Reflex and Haft, which lend abuilding a more characterful air whilst stillaccording with the pure and classicalprinciples of their Modric origins.

Sembla, Mode and Modric are fullycompatible and interchangeable. Each ofthe families of products within Mode hasan individual flavour and each incorporateslever handles, pull handles and accessoriessuitable for modern, commercial and publicbuildings which demand highly durableproducts.

The ergonomic designs and range ofmetallic finishes have made Modeattractive to specifiers and building ownersalike. Mode has not only become known asthe very best of British designed-and-manufactured door furniture, but issupported by the comprehensive range ofAllgood Hardware mechanical items, suchas locks, hinges, panic hardware, doorclosers and floor springs.

Products are available from stock, ensuringthe fastest delivery anywhere in the world. All items are hand finished and all Modeitems carry a 10 year guarantee.

ReflexWithin Mode, the Reflex family includeslever and pull handles, bespoke backplatesand knob furniture. All products areavailable in the full range of Allgoodmetallic finishes. The Straight, ‘L’ andQuadrant shaped Reflex pull handles allowfor varying permutations and the creationof individual but minimal aesthetic.

QuaverQuaver is a family of ergonomicallydesigned handles suitable for heavy dutyapplications. The sophisticated formingprocess used to manufacture Quaverresults in products that can be oriented inmany directions. Quaver is available in thefull range of Allgood metallic finishes andincorporates safety lever handles as well aspull handles.

HaftIt is no coincidence that Haft (the MiddleEnglish word for handle, evoking traditionalvalues of craftsmanship and quality) hasbeen chosen as the banner for this range oftactile Mode furniture.

Haft is manufactured in grade 316 stainlesssteel with a Ceramicast texture and definedhighlights – either polished or satin.

The textured nature of Haft items; thecontrasting finishes, all serve to add to thevisual and tactile interaction betweenindividual and environment.

Modric

ModricWhen Alan Tye (Royal designer for Industry)conceived Modric in 1965, he could never, even in his wildest dreams, have imaginedthe strength and longevity of the range’ssuccess.

Born out of the desire to create a trulydimensionally and aesthetically compatiblerange of ironmongery, the Modric(modular/metric) product was the trueoriginal in a field where designconsideration had previously been ignored.

Modric has evolved with new designs, innew materials and new finishes, all ofwhich can trace their roots back to theoriginal uncompromising design concept. The Allgood range has expanded intomechanical hardware, access control andnew technologies. We strive however tomaintain a comprehensive unifyingaesthetic that adheres to the originalModric principles.

Since its inception Modric has beenrenowned for fine design and extraordinarydurability; principles Allgood still takesgreat pride in today.

Modric is the background to the success ofAllgood. Created in the 60s, Modric was atotally innovative and modern concept indesign. Over 40 years later, the companyand product range are still No 1 for finedesign and product quality.

Introduction to hinges

Allgood Hardware hinges, where specifiedcorrectly to the recommendations of BS EN1935, are capable of withstanding a severedegree of use. Most are particularlysuitable for use with door closers and willhelp to ensure the smooth operation of thedoor. The range includes rising and fallinghinges suitable for bathrooms and toiletcubicles and a series of hinges designedspecifically for fire doors. In addition, manyare suitable for metal doors and frames.

marking of these products for theiruse on fire and escape doors is required(see Standards for Architectural Hardware).

Many Allgood Hardware hinges incorporatethe new fully concealed Newton Bearings. They never stick or seize, are totallycorrosion proof and, with the factoryapplied Teflon lubricant, are entirelymaintenance-free.

All stainless steel items are supplied withstainless steel screws for fixing to timber asstandard. Fixings for metal doors/framesare provided with the appropriate metalpattern hinges.

TolerancesPositional tolerances of holes are +/-0.1mm. All other tolerances are subject to aproduction tolerance of +/- 0.5mm.

HandingThe following hinges are handed. Thecorrect handing should be ascertainedusing the drawing below, and stated at theordering stage (e.g. 8025L or 8025R).

8025L/R, 8026L/R, 8066CT2L/R, 8066CT8L/R

Standards and PerformanceMost hinges are suitable for fire doors, areCertifire approved, marked andconform to BS EN 1935 and therequirements of PSA MOB. Allgood hingesare tested with the fixings supplied. Anysubstitution of these fixings may affectultimate performance.

All CB hinges are guaranteed for 25 years.

Hinge choice and fixing positionIt is recommended that three hinges beused on all doors. On heavy doors the loadis eventually borne by the three hinges. Onlight doors the centre hinge reduceswarping and whip. The top hinge resistsmost of the bending forces which resultfrom the door width (the leaf tends to pullaway from the frame at the top andtowards the frame at the bottom).

Where doors are not expected to warp, it isadvantageous to position the middle hingecloser to the top one, typically 200mmbelow. Doors of height above 2100mmshould have four hinges per leaf. Again, equal spacing gives maximum resistance towarping and two high and two low givesthe best load carrying ability.

Recommended hinge loadingsFor most CB hinges, the maximumrecommended load has increased by over30% to 160kg for doors up to 925mmwide.

It is rare for a newly hung door to have itsweight evenly distributed between thehinges. It is more likely that the load will beborne by one hinge which then settles to thepoint that the next hinge takes a share of theload until eventually all the hinges share theload equally.

Because, initially, all the load is on onehinge, they are rated as a single item, thetotal weight of the door being equal to therated loading.

For doors fitted with backcheck door closers,BS EN 1935 recommends that the actualdoor mass should be increased by 50%when selecting the hinge, due to the extraforces directed onto the hinges when thedoor reaches the backcheck position. However,Allgood Hardware hinges haveundergone successful testing through fivemillion cycles, with the backcheck operated onevery cycle and, as Allgood warrant theirhinges, there is no need to make the BSrecommended allowance.

Maximum door mass/BS EN Grade

As door width increases so do the bendingforces on the top hinge. For this reason therecommended loading is reduced toaccommodate this extra mass. Hingesshould be set into accurate mortices toavoid hinge bind. They should also be fittedexactly vertical and in alignment with eachother.

Care and MaintenanceCare and maintenance are importantfactors in ensuring that AllgoodHardware maintains the high qualityfinish for many years to come, and thatworking components give trouble-freeoperation. The frequency ofmaintenance will depend on theamount of use.

FixingsAll Allgood Hardware items are fixedusing Pozidriv/Supadriv screws and thecorrect screwdrivers must be used. Askfor Allgood Hardware XX5321/2/3drivers. Do not use Phillips drivers asthey are not compatible.

Overhead door closers and floor springsThe internal mechanisms are completelyimmersed in oil and they are designedso that no maintenance is required. Theunits are also protected by overloadabuse safety valves against accidentalor deliberate misuse. Once the doorcontrol has been correctly fitted to suitlocal conditions, no further adjustmentsshould be necessary. However, afrequent check should ensure that thedoor closes freely and positively into theframe without slamming (a little lightoil or aerosol lubricant on the latch boltand arm pivot point for overhead doorclosers may be helpful) and that allfixing screws are tight.

The storage and use of door controlsshould be in dry conditions between -5°C and +40°C. The shelf life isindefinite within the guarantee period.

Warning: Door controls containpowerful springs which are inserted intothe body under pressure and should notbe removed except by the manufacturer.

Introduction to door controls

Door controls are placed under morearduous conditions of use and abuse thannearly all other items of hardware. It isessential that their operation is smooth, efficient and reliable at all times, especiallywhen used on fire resistant and smokecontrol doors.

Allgood Hardware door controls areproduced to the highest standards ofdesign and most have adjustable controlfeatures. Allgood plc is a leading UKsupplier of adjustable backcheck overheaddoor closers including versions that haveCertifire approval, and every AllgoodHardware door control carries a 10 yearguarantee.

These devices are marked. Please askfor our Declaration of Conformity, or visitour website (www.allgood.co.uk). The ECCertificate of Conformity for them is1121-CPD-AD0001.

All door controls are manufactured infactories holding accreditation to theBS EN ISO 9001 2000 Quality ManagementSystem.

OVERHEAD DOOR CLOSERSMost closers are to BS EN 1154:1997 (seemain Introduction, Standards forArchitectural Hardware) and Certifireapproved.

Door closers are available in the full rangeof metallic and Spectra colour coatedfinishes.

Configuration of Door Closers

FLOOR SPRINGSAllgood Hardware floor springs areconstructed to the highest specification andare available in single and double actionoptions.

The slimline Commander and Cavalier rangesof floor springs incorporate many uniquefeatures to ensure easy installation andadjustment as well as providing attractiveaesthetics and long-term reliability.

The ranges include double action andcentre pivoted single action floor springsfor internal and external doors: a multi-functional adjustable power (1 to 6) unit, amechanical hold-open version and anelectromagnetic hold-open model. Floorsprings feature fully adjustable housing toallow fine setting of door alignment andfully adjustable closing speed and aproportional backcheck action at 90°.Commander unit installation is achieved bya unique micro-adjustable toe-in andcentering control and a built-in levellingdevice. Satin stainless steel grade 316cover plates are fitted as standard. Allother metallic and Spectra finishes areavailable.

FIRE DOOR CONTROLSMechanical hold-open devices whichpermanently hold a door open untilphysically released are unsuitable for useon fire resisting doors. Electromagneticrelease closers, however, hold openelectrically and, when connected to acentral fire-alarm system, will allow thedoor to close automatically in the event ofsupply failure or alarm activation.

All Allgood Hardware door releases are‘fail-safe’. The door will be released andclose immediately when the alarm is setoff, either manually or by the automaticsmoke or heat sensitive devices. The doorwill also be released and closedautomatically in the event of power failure. The door can always be closed manually.

SpecificationFire door holders 9408 and 9409 must beused in conjunction with an overhead doorcloser or floor spring. In principle, to avoiddistortion of the door, the release deviceshould be positioned at the same height asthe door closing device.

Integral hold/release mechanisms (9431/4,9451 and 9461) have an advantage overstandard closing devices combined withelectromagnetic door releases, since theydo not induce any twisting forces to thedoor which can lead to warping of woodendoors after prolonged use.

RegulationsElectromagnetic release and swing freedoor closing devices are accepted by FireOfficers and local authorities and complywith the 1991 Building RegulationsApproved Document B, 2000 Edition,Appendix B.

Maximum door mass/widthThe table below shows the door massesand widths as contained in the BS EN 1154European Standard.

MaintenanceThe integral mechanism of the floor springis immersed in oil and has been designedso that it requires no maintenance. It isprotected from misuse by an overloadsafety feature. On no account should anyattempt be made to dismantle a floorspring, since it contains a pre-stressedspring which could be dangerous.

Once the floor spring has been installedand adjusted to suit local conditions, nofurther maintenance should be necessary. However, an annual check should ensurethat:

a) the door leaf closes freely and positivelyinto its frame from any angle withoutslamming.

b) all fixing screws to the unit andaccessories are tight.

TestingTo ensure that the floor spring meets therequirements of the Building Regulations1991 Approved Document B, 2000 Edition,Appendix B, it has to be capable of closingthe door leaf from any angle against anylatch fitted.

To test this, open the door to its maximumopening angle and release. The door leafshould close fully into the door frame andovercome any latch or seals.

Any failure to close the door leaf should beinvestigated. It may indicate that the powerof the floor spring requires adjustment orthat excessive force is required to close thedoor leaf, due to distortion ormisalignment.

Care and MaintenanceCare and maintenance are importantfactors in ensuring that Allgood Hardwaremaintains the high quality finish for manyyears to come, and that workingcomponents give trouble-free operation. The frequency of maintenance will dependon the amount of use.

FixingsAll Allgood Hardware items are fixed usingPozidriv/Supadriv screws and the correctscrewdrivers must be used. Ask for AllgoodHardware XX5321/2/3 drivers. Do not usePhillips drivers as they are not compatible.

ConfigurationsAll Allgood configurations lever sets orQuadaxial levers should be fitted using theXX9561 Quadaxial tool kit (see Section5.7).

Lock cases and strikesCheck that all fixings are fully tightened, and check that latchbolt enters the strikesmoothly and adjust if required. Ensurethat the frame mortice allows for deadboltto be fully operated. Apply aerosol lubricantinto the case around the latchbolt anddeadbolt at regular intervals. Werecommend ‘WD40’ or a PTFE lubricant.

CylindersIt is essential that only special aerosollubricant XX9568 be used in and aroundthe cylinder, cylinder and turn and the key.

Introduction to locks and latches

The Allgood Hardware range of locks andlatches cover all the standard securityrequirements of a building.

Allgood Hardware locks and latches areavailable in cylinder and lever versions, cover all functions and include padlocks(see Cylinders) and cylinder rimnightlatches.

HEAVY DUTY LOCKS AND LATCHESHL72’The HL72’ Modular Lock System is a fullsuite of heavy duty mortice locks andlatches designed to support the entireAllgood range of levers, knobs and otherunsprung furniture.

SEVERE DUTY LOCKS AND LATCHESHD99’ RedlocksWith fire safety and security in mind,Allgood have designed the HD99‘ Redlocks. The range is particularly suitable for severeusage doors and where a higher degree ofsecurity is required.

MEDIUM DUTY LOCKS AND LATCHES73'73’ is a selected range of the most popularlatch/lock functions. designed tocomplement 72’ in dimensional layout.73’ provides a cost-effective alternative.

75’ cubicle bolt & claw bolt75’ are compact lock cases specifically foruse on sliding or bathroom doors.

NARROW STILE LOCK, RIM NIGHT-LATCHES AND ACCESS PANEL LOCK82’Narrow stile mortice deadlock

83’Cylinder rim nightlatches

Katkin access panel lock

Cylinder locks are supplied case only, complete with cylinder screw of correctlength for the lock. For cylinders andmaster keying, see the Cylinders section.

Each series is based on standard case sizes, allowing simplified door preparation.

Many of the models have alternativebacksets – either to place the lever handlefurther from the door edge, for aestheticreasons, or to accomodate knob furniture.

All locks and latches are heavily sprung forlever handles or softly sprung for knobfurniture.

Most deadbolts have hardened stainlesssteel anti-saw pins for added security.

Latchbolts can easily be reversed withoutremoving the lock case cover, so the samelock or latch can be specified whatever theclosing direction of the door.

Locks generally are packed 1 per box, complete with screws and fixinginstructions/template.

Rebate components are available for allmortice locks, apart from the 82’ deadlock,in 13mm, 19mm and 25mm sizes, and aresuitable for either hand.

Most Allgood Hardware mortice locks andlatches allow for bolt through fixings forlever handles and roses, and forescutcheons on cylinder/bathroom locks.

It is important to check before fixingwhether the holes for furniture and/orkeyhole or cylinder are required on one orboth sides of door. When using a handle onone side only, specify the XX9052NT halfspindle.

Severe duty locks and latches

HD99’ RedlocksWith fire, safety and security in mind,Allgood has designed the HD99‘ Redlocks. The range is particularly suitable for severeusage doors and where a higher degree ofsecurity is required. Redlocks are availablewith a special bolt to allow use withapproved 19mm electric release or monitorstrikes and can be manufactured toincorporate microswitch monitors for alarmand access control (add the suffix “E” tothe lock reference number).

• Common case size for all functions –makes locks interchangeable, and doorscan be upgraded with the minimum ofjoinery alteration.

• Oval cylinder locks are supplied asstandard. Euro profile cylinder versionsare also available from stock – add suffix“P” to lock number.

• Inner forends are rounded – to assistwith factory morticing.

• The back of the inner forend is flat – toease door preparation on steel doors.

• Specially designed to suit standard ANSIpreparation – making Redlocks suitablefor steel doors.

• The 9990HD Redlock has an ‘always freeto escape’ facility – thus meeting theconflicting requirements of fireregulations and the need for security.

• Latchbolts are reversible withoutremoving the lockcase cover – non-handed locks simplify specification andsave time on site.

• Supplied with a pre-formed strike – forease of installation.

• Latchbolts are guided and comprise a 3part easy action stainless steelconstruction with a 19mm throw (except9964 – 25mm – see overleaf) – veryhigh durability and security. Additionalsecurity is gained from the hardenedanti-saw trigger.

• Lockcases have bolt through fixing holes.• Strikeplates are hardened 3I6 stainless

steel to resist surface scratches.• UL listed and comply with ANSI 115.1

and PSA performance requirements.• Fixing screws are provided (Type AB self-

tapping) – suitable for both timber andmetal.

• Rebate conversion sets for allRedlocks are available for 13, 19 and25mm rebate depths on double doors– to allow locks to be fitted in mostrebated door sections. Redlocks arenot suitable for rebated doors lessthan 50mm thick.

• The locking function on the 9962HDand 9990HD locks can be changedwithout removing the cover. Thesebolts have 2 part followers to allowthe security and safety functions tooperate, and require furniture withspecial security spindles; Modric andMode door furniture should bespecified with the suffix “/9N”.

• All locks except 9960 and 9964incorporate an anti-thrust bolt – toprevent bolt being pushed back.

• The 9971HB and 9981HB have alatch holdback. The latchbolt isdepressed and the holdback activatedby the key 789A, through the forend.Reversing the procedure releases thebolt.

• The deadlocking night latches 9980 and9981HB are especially suitable toprovide extra security for glass panelleddoors, as the bolt and the handles aredeadlocked at the same time and canonly be released by the key.

• The 9964 Redlock has a 25mmprojecting deadbolt which incorporateshardened steel anti-saw rollers. Thematching strike plate is reinforced.

Fixing instructions

Fixing Instructions for Rebate ComponentsBefore fixing:

a) Check that the hand of the lock is

correct. If not, reverse the bolt as shown

on the lock fixing template supplied

with the lock.

b) The rebate set is reversible. With

Redlocks it is only suitable for doors

50mm minimum thickness. The size of

the rebate is defined by the distance (z)

on the drawing. The components are

available for 13mm, 19mm or 25mm

rebate.

c) The lock must be fitted into the opening

door leaf and the strike plate into the

fixed leaf.

1. Mortice the lock into the centre of the

door edge at the required height.

2. Insert the lock and mark around the

forend plate (b) on the projecting edge

of the door. Cut out to the required

depth to suit the rebate strip (a).

3. If required, holes for furniture or

cylinders should now be made in the

door faces as required. See lock fixing

template.

4. Hold the rebate strip (a) behind the lock

forend plate (b) and fix the lock into the

prepared door using the screws

provided. Fix the lock face plate (c).

5. With the lock firmly secured, mark the

position of the bolts on the other door

and cut out holes to the required depth.

Important: Before cutting the holes,

check whether both holes are required

(for locks) or latchbolt hole only (for

latches or night latches) or deadbolt

hole only (for deadlocks and some

escape deadlocks).

6. Position the strike plate and cut into the

edge of the door until it is morticed

flush with the back edge of the rebate.

7. Cut out a notch for the tongue of the

strike plate (d).

8. The lip on the long outer edge of the

rebate strip (d) must be morticed into the

projecting edge of the door for a neat

finish.

9. Hold the strike plate in position and fix

into the door edge, through the strike

plate, using the screws provided.

Mechanical cylinder master keying

A full master keying service is available forAllgood Hardware cylinders. These can beproduced under sub and grand master keysystems to customers’ details, which in turncan incorporate construction master keying.

Allgood Hardware Euro profile, oval, roundthreaded and rim cylinders and cylinderpadlocks can be suited together. However,it should be noted that the AdvancedCylinder Series and the Advanced HighSecurity Cylinder Series use different keysections, so they cannot be suited togetherunder the same master keying system.

Allgood also offers the convenience of aconstruction master key system. Keys areprovided for the construction phase whichare then rendered void on completion of theproject, by simple insertion of the new key. From this moment on, the full master keysystem comes into effect. So site personnel, for example, can be given a key which willmeet their needs but which will cease to beof use once client/building owner uses hiskey. The only alternatives are either to riskleaving a key in the wrong hands or tochange over cylinders when construction iscomplete – clearly a costly and arduoustask. With Allgood’s construction master keysystem, security is maximised whilst labourand materials costs are kept to a minimum.

Master key suites can be delivered with acomputer generated keyplan. Key and doornumbers are recorded.

Master key systems are tailored to yourrequirements. Opposite some examples areillustrated of the various master keyingarrangements available. Please contactyour nearest Allgood office for assistance.

In this system asingle key – the master key – will operateall locks in the system while each lock hasits own individual key – the servant key. Itis sometimes required that several servantkeys should be able to operate onecommon lock (e.g. the lock for the entrancedoor of a block of flats). This arrangementis shown in dotted lines on the illustration.

Provided the number of different keyswhich are to operate the common lock arefew in number, the arrangement issatisfactory and convenient. With a largenumber of different keys the security of thecommon lock is reduced almost toextinction. Under these circumstances it ispreferable to fit, for the common lock, onewhich is outside the master keyed systemaltogether.

Figures 2 & 3 show more elaborate masterkeyed systems wherein there are two ormore different levels of master key.

In Figure 3 the dotted lines show that agroup of locks, each with their own servantkey, can be made to accept the grandmaster key only and exclude any masterkey of lower levels.

A suite expansion of approximately 20% isbuilt into all plans. More can be catered for, only if requested when ordering.

• Foreword

• Mechanical digital locks

ForewordMechanical digital locks are the simplestform of access control. Without the needfor mains power, or any external wiring oradditional equipment, they provide a stepup in security and convenience frommechanical keyed locks. They are perfectwhere a simple ‘all-in-one’ solution isrequired.

Keyed locks can provide different accesslevels through master keying. Some digitallocks can be ‘master keyed’ and they alsoprovide many other features (depending onthe lock) which allow for a moresophisticated control of access and egress. You can have a special one-time emergencyor service entry code, for instance, whicherases the memory once used. Lock releasetimes are adjustable. Management cantemporarily or permanently disable any orall user codes. Locks can provide visibleand audible entry indicators, and beoverridden from a remote point.

Above all, mechanical (and the batterypowered 72102N) digital locks canconveniently solve the problems that comewith key based locking systems. There isalways the issue of lost or unreturned keysor there may simply be an unwieldynumber of keys, or perhaps there is now achange of priority for a given door. Withcode entry instead of keys, problems aresolved. Easily changed, as often as you like, codes provide a flexible means of accesscontrol. You will see on the following pagesthat all the options of sophisticated morticelocks are also available, examples beingalways-free-to-escape, key override, andlatch holdback facilities.

Please bear in mind that these locks aredesigned for low-to-medium frequency use.Where there is higher traffic, you shouldconsider some form of electronic accesscontrol. In this case The functionalequivalent to mechanical digital locks, isthe range of electronic code keypads(Section 6.1).

Gravity shearlocks

With Allgood Secure 75000 range ofshearlocks, both armature and magnet aresprung, allowing gaps of up to 6mmbetween door and frame to be overcome.Once engaged, they provide over 1200kgholding force, achieved without the highoperating temperatures associated withother shearlocks.

Being fully concealed within the door andframe, mortice shearlocks also providesuperior security and aesthetics. AllgoodSecure gravity shearlocks are fire tested toBS 476 Part 22 for 30 minutes. Shearlockscan be supplied for surface mounting, flushdoor and frame application, or semi-concealed for doors in recessed frames.

For shearlocks to function correctly, thearmature and magnet must align exactly. As such, Allgood Secure does notrecommend their use on double actiondoors.

Certain locks incorporate magnetic bondsensing (MBS). This is a self-monitoringdevice incorporated within the magnetwhich detects the holding force of thearmature and magnet when the door isclosed. If the full holding force has notbeen achieved it can signal a visual alarm, either locally or at a remote console, toindicate the magnet is not operating at itsmaximum holding capacity.

Mini shearlocks

Allgood mini-shearlocks are ideal for fittinginto narrow frames and doors. The slimlinestyle of the shearlock is achieved by havinga separate PCB, which can be fixed eitherin the PSU or mounted separately inside aprotective box, which is supplied with theshearlock. (The PCB must be fitted within20 metres of the shearlock). Being fullyconcealed within the door and frame, theshearlock provides enhanced aestheticsand security. Allgood Secure mini-shearlocks have been tested toindependently meet BS EN 1634-1 fire testsfor 60 minutes in 54mm thick doors and for30 minutes in 44mm thick doors.

By combining magnetic field force andphysical interference between lock bodyand armature, the mini-shearlock canovercome gaps of 5mm between door andframe, creating a shear holding force of1500kg.

Mini-shearlocks can also be supplied forsurface mounting or fixing to glassdoors with the use of the glass doorfixing pack (75582). For mini-shearlocksto function correctly, the armature andmagnet must align exactly. As such,Allgood Secure does not recommendtheir use on double action doors.
