Section 219, Gary Black Oak Phase 2 Sewer Improvement Project Path: G:\Projects_LRC\219 Projects\MXD\Section 219, Gary Black Oak Phase 2 Sewer Improvement Project.mxd Legend Proposed RCP Sewer Abandoned CMP Fill Existing Ditches New Pavement & Curb/Gutter Repair Pavement PROJECT PURPOSE The proposed project would extend the Gary storm sewer system to part of the Black Oak area of the City of Gary, Lake County, Indiana. The storm sewer system improvements would alleviate the commonly reoccurring cases of roadway and basement flooding for a number of commercial businesses. PROJECT DESCRIPTION The project would involve the installation of new storm sewers in an area of southwestern Gary. The construction will include the installation of approximately 1500 linear feet of 30" storm sewer, storm inlets and catch basins. Full reconstruction of 25th Avenue between Calhoun and Burr Street. This construction will reduce anticipated flooding conditions in the area. This project is part of the Calumet Region Environmental Infrastructure Section 219 project Authority, and has been allocated $1,275,000.00 of federal funding. PROJECT AUTHORITY The project is authorized under Section 219 of the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) 1992, as amended by Section 504 of WRDA 1996, Section 502 of WRDA 1999, and by Section 108 of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2001. Section 219, as amended, allows the Army Corps of Engineers to provide planning, design and construction assistance for carrying out water-related environmental infrastructure projects in select areas. The project under this authority are cost shared 75% Federal and 25% Non-Federal Sponsor. NON-FEDERAL SPONSOR Gary Storm Water Management District and City of Gary. CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT INFORMATION: Contract was awarded to the INDUSTRIAL & ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES of Gary Indiana on December 28, 2012 in the amount of $1,145,970.00. Field construction work started in May 2013.
