Rayvolve RVC kits offer the quick and easy “roll-on” way to insulate and seal stubconnections in motors and street lights to 600 volts. The elastomeric Rayvolve capprovides the required insulation thickness, withstands abrasion, and forms a water-resistant seal.

The tool-free RVC cap is ideal for installation in cramped motor boxes. Itslides on easily and will not leak, unravel, orslip off.

Ordering information1. Select the appropriate kit corre-

sponding to the motor feeder cableconductor size. It is not necessary toknow the size of the motor pigtaillead. Selections are based on typicaldimensions for low-voltage insulatedcable. Confirm selection with dimen-sions to assure proper sizing.

2. Kits are designed for use with coppercompression connectors. Kits do notcontain connectors.

Rayvolve RVS kits are the easy, “roll-on”way to insulate and seal cable connec-tions up to 1kV. The gripping force of thespecially formulated EPDM elastomercombines with a high-performancesealant to form a reliable, water-resistant,insulating sleeve that is UL listed andCSA certified for direct burial applicationsover in-line compression connectors. Easy, tool-free installation

Rayvolve sleeves feature a dual-walldesign with an entrapped lubricant,making installation fast and simple. Theelastomeric sleeve rolls onto the cablewith minimal effort, even at temperaturesbelow -25°C. The cable can be energizedimmediately after installation. It is idealfor use where gas or electric heatingdevices are not approved.

Repeatable results

The pre-engineered wall thickness of theRayvolve sleeve assures consistent fieldinstallations. With tape, insulation is dependent on the number of layersapplied.

Reliable seal meets UL, ANSI, andCSA standards

The compression of the elastomericsleeve on the sealant forms a water anddirt resistant seal even on grooved orout-of-round cables. RVS kits meet UL486D (Underwriters Laboratories Inc.;Insulating Tubing as cover connectorsfor underground conductors) and CSA22.2 No. 198.2 (Canadian StandardsAssociation; Low Voltage Splice Kits).They are tested in accordance to ANSIC119.1-1986.

Superior insulation

The EPDM elastomer resists damagefrom exposure to: moisture, ozone, fun-gus, and temperature extremes from -40°C to 130°C.

Long service life

The stabilized EPDM resists aging verywell. Results from heat aging andweathering studies demonstrate thematerial’s ability to resist degradationcaused by these factors.

Raychem PowerGel

Low Voltage PowerGelRaychem PowerGel consists of a highpercentage of liquid dispersed in asolid, cross-linked polymer matrix.Like a liquid, a gel will intimately conform to and seal surfaces. Like asolid, a gel has elasticity and shaperetention for easy handling.

What are gels made of?Gels can be made from a variety ofpolymer materials. However, only afew gels possess the proper combi-nation of properties for use as low-voltage electrical-cable accessories.A proprietary Raychem silicone gelhas been developed to meet themechanical, electrical, temperature,and material compatibility require-ments of low voltage applications.

How do gels work?Gels have the ability to encapsulatesubstrates without having to be melted, poured or cured. Gels aretacky, so they adhere to substratesand provide an excellent seal againstmoisture and other contaminants.Additionally, gel can easily and cleanly be removed when re-entry is desired.When silicone gel comes into contactwith a substrate, it lays a protectivecoating of silicone oil on the targetsurface, forming a barrier to water or oxygen molecules. This process iscalled „wetting“ a surface. Withoutwater or oxygen, corrosion cannotoccur.

Why is Raychem PowerGelunique?Raychem’s PowerGel is unique in thatit provides an excellent moisture sealover a wide temperature range (-40°Cto over 90°C) and is compatible withcable jacket materials. PowerGel alsohas excellent insulating properties.

How are gels used?A gel product may be thought of as the gel and its packaging. Thepackaging provides physical protec-tion, electrical insulation and a con-venient means of delivering gel compression, which is essential forthe sealing properties of the gel to be achieved.To apply a gel filled product to a substrate, the product is simply positioned over the substrate andcompressed into place. Special tools are not required. Since the gel is pre-cured, the product can immediately be put into service.

Is gel harmful?Silicone gel is considered a non-hazardous mixture. Silicone gel is not considered to be a skin irritantand is not considered to be toxic byskin absorption. In fact, certain sili-cone gel sheets are being used foreffective treatment of scars that occurfrom injury and burns to the skin.

PowerGel products are available for a variety of applications for powercables up to 1 kV.

GelCap motor connectioin kits quickly andconveniently insulate, seal, and protect stubsplice connections up to 1000 volts. Therobust yet compact design was engineeredto handle the harsh environment of motorconnections. GelCap kits are equally wellsuited to many other connection applica-tions including street light connections.

PowerGel sealing gel technologyThe GelCap motor connection kits featurerevolutionary PowerGel sealing gel whichprovides an excellent moisture seal over awide temperature range (-40°C to 105°C).PowerGel sealing gel has excellentinsulating properties and the added benefitof acting as a vibration damper.

Innovative cap design and materialThe specially formulated material providesexcellent abrasion resistance, insulationvalue, and UV resistance. In addition, the capis clear to allow visual inspection of connec-tor positioning during installation and con-nector performance during service life. Eachcap size is designed to fit a wide range ofcable sizes. The expandable design keepsthe cap as small as possible and allows it toexpand only as much as needed to fit onlarger cables. The end result is easier instal-lation in cramped applications such as motorconnection boxes.

Easy to selectIt is not necessary to know the motor leadcable size to select the correct kit. All youneed to know is the cable feeder size (orlarger cable if two different sizes). Only foursizes of product cover from 16 AWG to 500 kcmil.

Fast and easy installationGelCap motor connection kits providethe fastest installation. Simply push thecover down over the connection andsnap the clamp closed. No extra materi-als or greases are required. ThePowerGel sealing gel is already in thecap.

The robust, yetcompact, design is engineered to handlethe harsh environments of direct burialand manhole applications. GelWrapsleeves are equally well suited forinsulation and jacket repair.

Fast and easy installationInstallers will appreciate the simplewraparound design and dependable gelsealing performance. Simply wrap andsnap the sleeve on any cable in the userange. The gel in the sleeve seals oncontact. Installation is literally a snap.The GelWrap sleeve can be applied on all common compression connectors and low voltage cables.

Dependable performanceThe factory cured silicone gel sealant in the GelWrap sleeve completelyencapsulates the connection. Since thegel is easily stretched and very sticky, itbasically forms around the cable andconnector sticking to everythingincluding itself. Moisture cannot enterthe splice.

PowerGel sealing gelPowerGel sealing gel was specificallydeveloped for the electrical powerindustry. It consists of a chemically crosslinked silicone elastomer swollen with asilicone oil. PowerGel sealing gel ishydrophobic and provides an excellentmoisture seal over a wide operatingtemperature range (-40°C to 95°C). It is compatible with solid dielectric cable insulations and connectordeoxidizing greases and has excellentinsulation properties.

Innovative designThe GelWrap sleeve design employs acombination of gels and elastomers toachieve great cable and connector rangetaking. It consists of a flexible, corrugatedhousing extruded from a thermoplasticelastomer and coated with a uniformthickness of PowerGel silicone sealinggel. A rigid polypropylene snap lock is co-extruded along the length of the sleeveto secure the installation.
