~The Donner party is the name given to a group of pioneers.

~They became trapped in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, In the winter of 1846-1847

~Reached Fort Bridger, and were persueded to take Hastings cut off.

~This caused many delays and hardships.

~A trail had to be made through the Wasatch Mts. And an 80 mile desert had to be crossed.

~3 deaths thus far.

~80 people reached the base of the steep summit, and discovered it was snow covered.

~Forced to turn back.
