Josh talked about the economic importance of lettuce to California, and in fact, 96% of lettuce in the US is produced in California and Arizona. The ability to germinate in high temperatures is one of the most important characters for the economical production of lettuce because the seed are planted directly in the soil and the soil temperature gets almost 60 degree C at the beginning of the growing season in late August through September.

Diameter 500mm. This HSS™ pelleting machine is suitable for semi-automatic or fully automatic pelleting or encrusting of batches of vegetable and field crop seeds. The machines will pellet the seeds by batch. The batches are weighed manually or automatically and unloaded in the pelleting room. The speed of the rotor and spinning disc is manually adjustable. Volumetric and gravimetric hose pumps and powder dosing systems are available. Optionally, it is possible to arrange a license agreement with INCOTEC for powders and formulations.�

These calibrating machines are used for accurate sizing of all kind of dry seed pellets. After the drying process it is important to size the pellets to take out too small or too large seed pellets. During drying the pellets shrink as they loose water, because of this you can expect differences in size of the seed pellet.
