Program Details:Cal U’s Summer Educational Enrichment for Kids (SEEK) is an academic enrichment program for school-aged children entering grades 1 through 8 in the fall of 2013. Students will participate in learning experiences that are entertaining, yet academically challenging. The 2013 SEEK program will run during the weeks of June 24-28, 2013 and July 15-19, 2013. Classes begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at 4:00 p.m. Participants are escorted between classes and supervised during lunch.

Children will need to bring a bag lunch (refrigeration is not available). SEEK staff will not dispense medication.

Multi-Topic Classes:Children can participate in up to four classes per session. Half-day participation is also available (morning or afternoon). Class details by grade levels are available online: www.calu.edu/seekChildren will be placed in the following groups based on grade levels:

• Grades3through5 pages 6 - 9 pages 16 - 19

• Grades6through8 pages 10 - 13 pages 20 - 21

Registration:Please complete SEEK registration and payment online: www.calu.edu/seek

Payment can be made by MasterCard, VISA, or Discover.

Fees and Refund Policy:The cost for the full-day program for one week is $135 per child. The half-day program (morning or afternoon for one week) is $90 per child. Registration is on a first come, first served basis. Class size is limited, so please register early. You must select a first and second class choice. Once registered, you will receive a confirmation letter that lists the classes selected for each child.

Withdrawal from the program must be in writing and received at least five working days prior to the start of the program in order to receive a full refund. No refunds will be issued for withdrawals received after June 17 for the session beginning June 24, 2013. No refunds will be issued for withdrawals received after July 8 for the session beginning July 15, 2013.

Natural Impressions Learn about artists and create your own masterpieces! Come discover how forms found in nature shape art. In this class, we will explore how lines, patterns, textures and colors in nature inspire the work of well-known artists like Alexander Calder and J. M. W. Turner. Following their lead, we will then explore our own natural environment and create art inspired by nature.

Travel Our World… by StarlightFromAncientGreecetoNativeAmerica, study five world cultures with hands-on projects reflecting each culture’s constellations, literature, foods, and crafts. The “star” of the course is MagicEarth, a state-of-the-art mini-planetarium.

It’s Not Easy Being GreenIt takes time and effort to help protect our planet; it’s not always easy but it is important to do simple things like turn off the lights and recycle our trash. Explore easy and fun ways to “be green” and help get the message out through kid-created puppets, cartoons, and skits.

Water WondersEnjoy water games. Recreate a model of a water molecule. Understand the importance of conserving this natural resource. Make bubbles. But, beware: you will definitely get wet!

On the outside, we can see these differences through our hair, eyes, height, and other physical traits, however, there are hundreds of ways to show who we are to the world. In Watercolor: Plants and Animals that Represent Me, we will use our own lives to create a painting that symbolizes a small part of us. Using your favorite colors, the month/year that you were born, personal heritage, etc, our paintings will come alive!
