From the Pastor’s Desk

News about the Coronavirus (COV-19) has dominated the headlines for the past several weeks. The outbreak has already had a dramatic impact in our world and has caused a great deal of suffering. We pray for those who have contracted this illness, as well as those affected because of it. Bishop Brennan has communicated with the priests of the Diocese of Columbus regarding best practices to stop the spread of illness in church. He outlined some of the common sense practices that all of us are aware of: stay home if you are sick, wash your hands thoroughly and frequently, cover your mouth and nose completely while sneezing or coughing. With regard to our public worship at Mass, if you prefer to keep your hands folded during the Sign of Peace, simply give a nod and smile to your neighbor in the pew. And of course no one is obliged to receive the Precious Blood from the chalice – the whole of Christ is present in the consecrated host at Communion. As we watch the Coronavirus run its course in our own country and abroad, let us be prudent and sensible. It is important that we do our part to reduce the spread of any disease. Moreover, as people of faith, it is important to ask God for his mercy and strength in these days. And in our prayer, let us not forget to thank him for his constant protection, guidance, and love. May the Lord bless you throughout this week!

Las noticias sobre el Coronavirus (COV-19) han ocupado los titulares en las últimas semanas. El brote ha tenido un impacto dramático en todo el mundo y está causando mucho sufrimiento. Oremos por aquellos que han contraído esta enfermedad, y por todos los afectados.

El obispo Brennan se ha dirigido a los sacerdotes de la Diócesis de Columbus para hablar de las prácticas que se deben tener para evitar la propagación de la enfermedad en nuestras iglesias. Nos ha indicado algunas de esas prácticas, que son de sentido común, y de las que todos somos conscientes: quedarse en casa si uno se encuentra enfermo, lavarse las manos a fondo y con frecuencia, taparse la boca y la nariz por completo cuando se estornuda o se tose. Con respecto al culto público en la Misa, si prefiere mantener las manos dobladas durante el Signo de Paz, simplemente haga un guiño y sonría a la persona que está a su lado en el banco. Y, por supuesto, nadie está obligado a recibir la Preciosa Sangre del Cáliz a la hora de comulgar – todo Cristo está presente en la Hostia consagrada.

Mientras vemos al Coronavirus propagarse en nuestro propio país y en el extranjero, seamos prudentes y sensatos. Es importante que pongamos de nuestra parte todo lo que está a nuestro alcance para reducir la propagación de cualquier enfermedad. It’s time to give the gift of life. The Knights of Columbus’ next blood

drive will be this Sunday, March 8, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the church basement. Spanish speaking certified aides will be present to assist those who need an interpreter. We encourage everyone from our parish community to donate. (This event is bilingual.) Join us this Lent for Candlelight Adoration on Wednesday, March 11, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.! Experience an uplifting

evening of prayer and Eucharistic Adoration followed by an opportunity for fellowship and refreshments in the vestibule. Confession will also be available. (This event is bilingual.)

Join us for Stations of the Cross on Fridays at 6:30 p.m. during Lent. We will pray bilingual stations, uniting our Spanish-speaking

and English-speaking communities. Bilingual booklets will help us contemplate Christ’s passion together. (This event is bilingual.) The Christ the King Women’s Club would like to invite all women of the parish to “Mary’s Way of the Cross.” We will meet in the

church on Saturday, March 14, at 10:00 a.m. for this special meditation on the Stations of the Cross through the eyes of Mary. Mothers with little ones, arrange for some time off and join us! Single women and grandmothers, you are invited as well! There will be light refreshments in the vestibule after our prayers. Come and meet the other women of our church. (This event is in English.) Children in pre-K through fourth grade are invited to participate in the Children’s Liturgy of the Word during the 10:00 a.m. Mass next Sunday, March 15. They will hear the readings and learn about

All Saints Academy Catholic School

Students and teachers continue to prepare for the Living Stations of the Cross. This school-wide Lenten service allows our

school family to reflect upon the meaning of Jesus’ death on the cross. It also allows students from different grades to interact and collaborate with each other. Please join us for our second and final Fish Fry this Friday, March 13, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Enjoy a delicious meal,

panel on St. Pope John Paul’s landmark encyclical is scheduled for Wednesday, March 25, from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Learn how Evangelium Vitae has helped to build culture of life throughout the world and how it continues to address the challenges of our day. The evening includes a video anniversary message from Bishop Brennan and presentations on the following topics: “Walking with Mothers” by Monica Flynn of Mommies Matter; “Post Abortion Reconciliation and Healing” by Becky D’Alesio of Catholic Social Services’ Project Rachel; “Bioethics and End of Life Issues” by Fr. Bob Penhallurick who is the Chaplain of the Catholic Medical Association Guild of Central Ohio; and “Reflections on the Death Penalty” by Jim Tobin of the Catholic Conference of Ohio.
