Fibersim Composite ViewerProviding valuable insight into composites design and manufacturing data

www.siemens.com/plm/fibersim

FIBERSIM

Benefits• Cost effective solution for

providing access to Fibersim composite data for departments that need to review part data but don’t need to design or manufacture composite parts

• Efficiently creates visualization data by re-using the existing engineering or manufacturing composite data

• Reduces the risk of erroneous changes to composites data for engineering or manufacturing

Features• Provides access to the entire

composite definition for review

• Creates on-the-fly cross sections for local stackup visualization

• Creates on-the-fly annotations for core samples to provide part details, including thicknesses, specified and deformed fiber orientations, laminate balance and symmetry

SummaryWorkers in departments such as manufacturing, quality, technical publications and others often need to have access to composite engineering or manufacturing definitions in a 3D format. Being able to use, query and navigate the vast amount of data within a composite design without a full understanding of the way the part was designed or manufactured can be extremely difficult and time consuming with traditional computer-aided design (CAD) layer or model tree methods. The Composite Viewer module in the Fibersim™ portfolio of software for composites engineering from Siemens PLM Software provides a low cost solution for gaining access to composite engineering and manufacturing information when there is no need to edit it. This read-only application allows you to query the entire composite definition authored in Fibersim and displays the information in a 3D viewer or CAD environment. Composite Viewer supports the NX™, Catia V5, Creo Parametric and Pro/Engineer Wildfire CAD systems as well as the Enovia DMU.

Surface representations and annotations can be generated to easily visualize the ply stack-up of existing composite designs. Plies for this shroud have been generated as surfaces and are colored based on ply orientation (blue - 0°, yellow- 90°, green - 45°).

Fibersim Composite Viewer

Provides access to all dataThe viewer provides access to a variety of information, including:• All ply and zone geometry definitions • All ply names and sequencing data • Transition drop-off and stagger

specifications • Material data, such as thickness and

architecture • Component cost, weight, area and

perimeter data • Laminate component structural

properties • Laminate thickness, ply counts and

orientations • Ply splicing and darting • Laminates, plies, and core process

information• Laminate symmetry, balance and

warping.

Query and navigate CAD model dataNavigating through the vast amount of data within a composite CAD model is easily achieved with the viewer due to the ability to search, sort and group data. There is no longer a need to navigate through CAD layers or model trees to piece together design or manufacturing information, which saves significant time and eliminates confusion and errors.

Develop additional data as neededThe Fibersim Composite Viewer gives you the ability to create core sampling data to retrieve complete laminate information for a desired target. Core sampling informa-tion includes ply names, sequences, speci-fied orientations, true fiber orientations, deformed ply thickness, total laminate thickness, laminate balance, laminate sym-metry and warping. Cross sections and an-notations can also be developed providing a complete view, visual and stackup, of the laminate at any desired location.

A ply list can be easily visualized within the 3D model. Plies for this shroud have been selected from the list and the corresponding boundaries are highlighted in the model with colors representing the ply orientation (blue - 0°, yellow - 90°, green - 45°).

Cross sections can be created within an existing Fibersim composite design to assist with part review and technical documentation. Plies can be displayed in schematic or draped representations that include ply names and orientations highlighted in various colors to aid design interpretation.
