Mission•To be the premier provider of specialty
bicycles with an integrated variable drive system technology.
![Page 6: Selected Concept Analysis](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062511/54bcd9cb4a7959db548b4582/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
The Problem•A traditional external system relies on:• User set-up• Maintenance• Compatibility and quality of parts
•External gear systems are prone to the elements
![Page 7: Selected Concept Analysis](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062511/54bcd9cb4a7959db548b4582/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)

SolutionFinancial For the Future
• SB Grants• Fools• Friends• Angel Investors • VC’s • SB Bank Loans
• How many rounds of financing, how much and when will we apply them?
• What aspect of the business should we look into after our first round of financing?
• When will we begin to break even? 2nd year, possibly?
![Page 9: Selected Concept Analysis](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062511/54bcd9cb4a7959db548b4582/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
ProblemsDesign Planning
• Potential belt slipping
• Solid works/CAD generations
• Finding the shortcomings in existing designs and finding ways to better the design
• Efficient and compact shifter control
• Develop a full CAD render of model
• Use available in house WSU expertise for design review
• Prototype and TEST!
• Fine tune and adjust design
![Page 10: Selected Concept Analysis](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062511/54bcd9cb4a7959db548b4582/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
SolutionsDesign For the Future
• Locking mechanism• Adding groves on belt and
disk to reduce slippage• Spring assisted push/pull
gear shifting mechanism• The lateral motion of the
discs will be used for shifting.
• ISIS drive bottom bracket required strength
• Weight , size
• Variable spring designs• Gears and locking
mechanisms• Commercially available
alternatives to the standard v-belt
• Shifter control layout and design
• Compatibility with existing frames

Design Space Evidence•Concept Drawings
▫ CAD models in progress•Modeling Calculations
▫ Gear ratio ranges (.75:1 - 4:1)▫ Material thickness/strength
•Research▫ Patent searches▫ Engineering handbooks and dissertations
on CVTs
![Page 12: Selected Concept Analysis](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062511/54bcd9cb4a7959db548b4582/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
Major Design Decisions•Using the variable sheave CVT
▫ Minimal mechanical complexity compared to other designs. Lightweight in comparison to hydraulic systems. Has been used successfully on snowmobiles, recreational vehicles and mopeds.
▫ The design has been patented already. Why hasn’t it been built?
•Locking position mechanism ▫ Prevent undesired drift in ratios and excessive slip.
•Utilizing spring force to move the drive disks▫ Reduce the effort exerted by the rider. The shift can be better
regulated if a standardized force is used.
