SCOTTSDALE MUSTANGPARK & RIDEScottsdale, Arizona

A schematic planning study for a busy Scottsdale location near Shea Boulevard & 90th Street to provide much needed additional parking and resolve traffic congestion. As part of a proposed park & ride public transportation facility as well as additional Scottsdale Healthcare Hospital and Scottsdale Mustang Library parking, a 3-level underground 550 space parking garage is positioned to be shared by these users. A bus station, multi-station on-street bus loading zone and improved street circulation are also a part of this proposal. Additional public and pedestrian accommodations include: public art installations, a commuter oriented retail development, improved access to nearby recreation greenbelt park and connector plazas to both the hospital and library.

MOUNTAIN BRIDGE COMMUNITY CLUBHOUSEMesa, Arizona

The Mountain Bridge Community Clubhouse is a series of schematic building design and comprehensive site plan studies that explore the relationships between the various programming components of this very important social facility. Mountain Bridge is a large master planned community located in Mesa’s east valley. The community clubhouse and central community park located near the middle of this development along a greenbelt and primary arterial circulation roadways is designed to accommodate the beautiful surrounding mountain views as well as annual solar sun angles. Overall views, topography, drainage, nearby residential lots, community areas, passive/active uses, pools, sport courts, lawns, shade pavilions, trailhead locations, playgrounds, picnic areas, equipment locations, landscaping, pick-up/drop-off zones, service yards and parking were all primary considerations in the arrangement of these various uses.

CITY OF CHANDLERPARKING GARAGE / RETAIL SHOPS STUDIESChandler, ArizonaWith increasing demands to provide more downtown parking spaces, the City of Chandler commissioned a series of schematic design proposals to investigate various multi-story parking structure scenarios that also included an attached retail / office tenant building in order to soften the impact of a large parking garage. Located in the pedestrian oriented area of downtown Chandler, the City of Chandler requested that a ‘liner’ tenant building also be included as a part of the parking garage to provide a desirable walkable downtown streetscape. This schematic design studied three building site footprints including optional additional parking levels / office tenant space ranging in size from 268 to 474 parking spaces and 9,000 s.f. to 15,800 s.f. of leasable space in a one or two story building.

WACOGGREEN EARTH LIVING PROJECTYuma, Arizona

Western Arizona Council of Governments (WACOG) commissioned a detailed planning study to provide high quality affordable energy efficient, walkable in-fill, single family neighborhoods that complied with LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification requirements for neighborhoods and homes. With a great civic desire to offer better quality housing options for its residents these homes had to be aesthetically compatible with the existing City of Yuma housing while also being easily adaptable to other surrounding communities and in-fill opportunities. A variety of one and two story single family homes and cluster home plans that ranged in size from 1,350 s.f. to 2,555 s.f. were developed in two different styles for architectural variety. Many of these proposed home designs can also accommodate a 490 s.f. casita for additional housing flexibility. Generous front porches promote a human scale connected neighborhood community while reducing the overall impact of automobiles. A nineteen acre walkable urban in-fill residential neighborhood with an adjacent commercial area was developed featuring two shared common green community ‘pocket parks’.

MORENCI HOUSINGMorenci, ArizonaSituated on a 12- acre site steeply sloped hilltop site the Highland Apartment / Townhouse Project is a 200-unit apartment & townhouse mining work-force housing community. The buildings were limited to 2-stories for tenant convenience and to minimize the visual impact of this large multi-family residential project. The buildings and vehicular circulation were zoned to balance the efficiency, maximization of views and ease of vehicular/pedestrian circulation of the site. The site design centers around providing a series of outdoor spaces and amenities, private patios, outdoor BBQ areas, “green walks”, cluster nodes, children’s playground area, promoting both social interaction and healthy living while also maximizing the beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

NEWBERRY TERRACETempe, Arizona

A series of two-story single-family and townhouse units ranging in size from 1,245 s.f. to 1,846 s.f. located in the Newberry Terrace community - Tempe, Arizona. A double-height great room in the townhomes provides a generous open spatial quality for the occupants. The single family homes are designed with inviting front porches positioned in front of the garage to de-emphasize the automobile and promote a more pedestrian oriented interactive community. As a new development surrounded by a mix of older established single family homes and apartments it was important that this Tempe in-fill project worked in harmony with the existing community context. Special attention was given to the scale, colors and material choices for these dwellings. Generous private outdoor backyards allow for the resident’s enjoyment while a neighborhood green ‘pocket park’ serves the community as shared open space and storm water retention.
