Grow in pine oak forests on rocky hills at altitudes up to 1500m
Grow in dappled light to bright indirect light. Likes cool to warm conditions and strong air
movement.
Water heavily while actively growing but reduce in autumn. Roots must dry rapidly after
watering. Can be grown in a pot or mounted.

Island of Luzon in the
Philippines.
Grow at elevations of 100-
650m in shaded conditions
with good air movement.
Water all year round
ensuring plants are kept
moist but not allowed to
become stale or soggy.
Growing medium should
contain moisture retentive
additives.

Lithophyte – on rocks and boulders, cliff faces, slopes, often exposed to full sun.
Short fat pseudobulbs up to 250mm with lilac-purple flowers. Usually flat.
Colour variants – white and blue. 1 named cultivar- Blue Moon.

Found in lowland areas up to 1900m as an epiphyte and lithophyte growing along
watercourses and other moist places.
Watering and fertilizing should be lessened in the winter months.
Phalaenopsis equestris
Philippines and Taiwan
Grows as an epiphyte at low altitudes in
humid forests.
Grown over a tray of coconut husk that is
kept wet. This species has been potted on
bark and perlite and fertilized with low
nitrogen

Native to Mexico to Costa Rica.
Grows in semi-deciduous forests from sea level to 1,000 m.

Grows in forest as an epiphyte at low altitudes characterised by seasonal climate –

Grown on fern tree slab high in the shade house under 50% shade. Watered copiously in
summer and less so in winter. Fertilized with low nitrogen. Needs protection from the
cold in winter

Native to western Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the island of New Guinea and the
Philippines.
Is the most wide spread of the Dendrochilum species.
Grows mostly as an epiphyte and occasionally as a lithophyte at higher elevations.
Occurs to elevations of 2,200 m.
