Train TravelChina has one of the biggest and busiest rail networks in the world, and trains link almost every town and city. The World’s highest railway is from Lhasa to Xi’an / Beijing. High speed trains operate between major cities. Two berth deluxe overnight sleeper train is available from Beijing to Xi’an and international trains routes are Hong Kong / Shanghai / Beijing, Beijing / Moscow, Beijing or Nanning to Hanoi / Saigon. Chinese trains are a safe, comfortable and easy way to travel around China, and a Chinese train journey is an experience in itself, where you immerse yourself in the culture, see the countryside scenery and witness traditional Chinese life along the railway. Some of the classes of travel used by Selective Tours are described below:

Air-conditioned soft seat class: Equivalent to first class on a European train. Public bathrooms and dining carriage are available on board. Staff push food trolleys and sell tea, coffee and food through the whole journey.

Air-conditioned 4 berth sleeper: Spacious 4-berth compartments with two upper and two lower berths. All necessary bedding is provided. There is a table with tablecloth, and usually a vacuum flask of hot water for making tea. The compartment door locks securely, and smartly-dressed attendants look after each carriage. Some trains even feature individual TV screens and power sockets for laptops and mobile phones. Sharing a 4-berth really isn’t a problem, it is the norm in China, and you may even meet some real Chinese people this way.

AC Deluxe 2 berth sleeper: These are only available on trains from Beijing - Hong Kong, Xian - Shanghai and Beijing - Xian. These are -berth compartments with private toilet. There are only limited numbers available, Selective Tours always endeavour to reserve berth sleepers for our customers, but sometimes these sleepers are reserved by government officials, please be prepared to travel in normal 4-berth soft class if necessary. Air Travel With rapid economic growth, air travel in China has become more affordable. Air China, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines are three major state owned airlines with excellent safety records. All of them fly to Australia. Selective Tours use their flights for travelling within China. Unfortunately, due to the increase in air traffic, government restrictions and changing weather conditions, flight delays may happen from time to time. Flight delays can cause problems with onward connections, hotel and holiday arrangements, which need to be rescheduled. Although the airline will sometimes make alternative arrangements to get you to your next destination at no extra cost, there may be other costs involved after your arrival, in the form of additional accommodation costs, transfers and onward tickets. Selective Tours requires that you are insured against such eventualities, and recommends travelling with a Comprehensive Travel Insurance Policy from Australia prior to departure.

Hassle Free TravelWe want you to enjoy every moment of your trip to China and not to worry about a thing. So from the time you leave to the time you return, everything is organised well in advance for you - flights, accommodation and tour guides to meet and look after you at each of your destinations. What our customers say:

“The trip gave us a lot of unexpected sites and beauty. The whole trip was an eye opener. The guides that were supplied to us were great. The hotels that we had were great as well. All the meals provided were very plentiful. The choices of food were to the particular region we were in which meant there was some variety most days. We wish to thank Selective Tours for all your work, advice and excellent Customer Service for our China trip.”

Karen Buckman and her friends, QLD, 22 days Tailor-made China tour

“I have recently returned from your Yangtze River & Culture Delights tour. And all I can say is thank you the entire tour was so much better than I could have possibly imagined.

The guides and drivers were sensational and the included activities were made even better by these wonderful people their extensive knowledge of their respective city’s just made it so much more exciting, The accommodation was first rate and everybody everywhere went out of their way to make our experience amazing. The food was exceptional on all occasions. I could go on with so much more but will just finish in saying that if in doubt about which tour company to use for your China experience don’t compromise go with Selective you will not be disappointed.”

Doris Zanki, VIC, 13 days Yangtze River & Culture Delights tour

“Judith and I were really very impressed with the service we received from all the guides and drivers assigned to us. The vehicles were large and comfortable with plenty of room for our luggage; the drivers were courteous and, with one small exception, drove in a careful and considerate manner. The guides were all very enthusiastic, always meeting our flights on time and carrying a sign with our names on it at the airport barriers. They were also very informative and willing to rearrange activities where necessary to accommodate our wishes. The river cruise was our highlight as it was all new to us and a wonderful window onto parts of rural China as well as a chance to see the engineering of the Three Gorges dam and reservoir.”

Karen Buckman and her friends, QLD, 22 days Tailor-made China tour “I have recently returned from your Yangtze River & Culture Delights tour.
