January 29, 2017The donation receipts have been issued. Dr. Heike Virmond will sign and mail them to the donors at the end of January - thank you very much for this, Heike! As soon as the new fiduciary has been evaluated and the annual accounts 2015/2016 have been checked, our request for definitive tax exemption will be submitted to the tax authorities of the Canton of Zug.

February 13, 2017Together with Sambhali Trust, Jodhpur, ANSHULA supports women and girls from the Dalit caste, as well as underprivileged women and girls from the Muslim Community.Recently, ANSHULA came across a Boarding Home for Boys which we feel is also worthwhile supporting:Bal Shobha Sansthan, Bagar Chowk, Jodhpur - 342001, RajasthanBal Shoban Sansthan makes a well-cared for and clean impression. The Head of the Home, Mr. Durg Singh Bhati, gives us a tour of the rather large and clean facilities and explains the daily routine. From Monday to Saturday the 30 semi-orphans and orphans go to a nearby private school. They return to the Home for lunch and in the afternoons the boys are doing their homework and the cleaning of the facilities, as well as their laundry.

At present, ANSHULA supports the Home with one sponsored lunch per month. After start of the new school year (1 July 2017), we will decide on possible further support.

The girls attentively listen to the young musicians from the surrounding desert villages and hum along to the tunes

On the way back, our Swiss friend, Dominik Landwehr, generously sponsors ice-cream! Thank very much, Dominik, for this treat!

Semi-annual Report 2017

March 16, 2017COFRA Foundation in Zug, the Foundation of the former employer of Silvia Kunz-Domenig, agreed to support the two Sambhali Empowerment Centers «Abhaya» und «Fatima» with an amount of CHF 30'000 for the next two years. Without this generous donation, these two centers would have needed to be closed due to lack of funds.

Dr. Heike Virmond, ANSHULA Chairperson and employee of COFRA Zug, submitted the proposal for support. The MOU as well as the money transfer are handled directly between Sambhali Trust, Jodhpur and COFRA Foundation, Zug. ANSHULA assumes responsibility on location for the monitoring and supervision of the project. In the two Empowerment Centers 60 underprivileged women and girls receive an education in sewing and embroidery, as well as a basic education, a.a., in Hindi, English and Maths. In the attached new Children's Center 40 children between ages 3-12 receive free basic education. In the name of the women and children a big thank you to COFRA Foundation for the generous support and Dr. Heike Virmond for initiating this!

March 29, 2017ANSHULA assumes the costs for Sunita's two older girls, Palak and Roshani at the Sambhali Boarding Home, from 1 April - 30 June, 2017, in the amount of INR 30,703.Depending on the funds available, we will decide mid-May whether we can support Palak and Roshani also from 1 July, 2017 - 30 June, 2018.

March 31, 2017The annual accounts for the years 2015 and 2016, including profit and loss accounts, are sent to HELDSTAB TREUHAND Zug for voluntary revision. After completion of the revision, ANSHULA will submit a request for definitive tax exemption to the tax authorities of the Canton of Zug.All related costs are assumed privately by Silvia und Rolf Kunz-Domenig.

April 10, 11, 13, 2017Shortly before Easter, the follwoing donations are received on the ANSHULA Credit Suisse account:1. Friends of ours from Winterthur decided to support our project work with monthly CHF 100.00, starting

April 20172. A donation of CHF 300.00 made in December 2016 by another friend was doubled by COFRA Zug

(matching grant)3. A contact of Doris Domenig-Wegmann in Weggis quite unexpectedly contributes CHF 10'000.00.

A BIG THANK YOU to all the sponsors for their very generous support which will fully be used for the empowerment and education of women and children in Jodhpur and the surrounding desert villages.

April 14 - Aril 25, 2017Sad news about Sunita and the first bitter blow for ANSHULA: After some initial difficulties, Sunita and her children Palak, Roshani and Sapna were happy and well integrated at the Sambhali Boarding Home. Sunita performed her job as a cook for the 25 girls to everybody's satisfaction. For reasons unknown to us, Sunita suddenly started to neglect her job. She delegated part of her work to various girls at the Boarding Home, or did not cook at all. This now "free time" she used to visit her old place and friends at the Gantaghar Market.Despite many talks and discussions with Silvia, Govind, and the house warden Sunita did not change her behaviour. To prevent further irritation at the Boarding Home, Govind and we decided with a very heavy heart to terminate Sunita's contract per 25 April, 2017.Sunita unfortunately refused our offer to keep Palak and Roshani at the Boarding Home and to send them to school…Sunita is planning to visit her family in Gujarat. Knowing that she and the children might end up on the street again is hurting us tremendously.

April 28, 2017Sunita and her children left for Gujarat. Prior to her departure, several of her friends and acquaintances at Gantaghar Market tried to convince her to bring Palak and Roshani back to the Sambhali Boarding Home. All we can do is wait and hope that Sunita will for once think of the children and bring them back to the Boarding Home. Else, the amount of INR 30,070 already paid for Palak and Roshani's stay at the Boarding Home will be used for the support of other needy children at the Sambhali Boarding Home.

April 30, 2017Our two "adopted grandchildren", Abhishek and Gaurav Rani have received their 2nd school reporting cards:

The two Dalit boys are studying with great enthusiasm and joy. They are making great progress and are a living proof that eagerness to learn and ability does

not depend on caste!

May 10, 2017For some of the children of the Sambhali Scholarship Project no sponsors were found for the new school year (1 July 2017 - 30 June 2018). ANSHULA agreed to "fill-in the gaps" and assume the school fees for the 6 children for the upcoming school year. The aim of ANSHULA is, and will however always be to support a sponsored child minimum until completion of the basic education (12th class).

Semi-annual Report 2017

May 11, 2017Maya Singh, Chairperson of the Sudarshan Deo Trust in Shahpura, asked if ANSHULA could assume the school fees for an extraordinarily talented girl from an underprivileged family. Yashwini's father is working as a houseboy in Ajmer and his salary barely covers the daily living costs. Thanks to ANSHULA Yashwini Meghwal, born 22 September, 2012 will be able to attend the 1st class at the renowned "Sophia Higher Secondary School" in Ajmer, starting on July 1, 2017.The costs are INR 30'000/CHF 480.00/year, including school material, uniform and, if necessary, daily tuition.Maya and Sat Singh are already supporting 150 underprivileged children in the area. Further, they are sponsoring college education for several gifted children.

May 20, 2017The "Sudarshan Deo Charitable Trust", presently chaired by Maya and Sat Singh, has been supporting the local underprivileged communities (Dalits, Bhils) since 1630. The aim of the Trust is to drive sustainable social change through 3 related programmes: Education, Health, Environment and Community:

"We believe that every child has the right to a healthy and loving life, and a first class education"Sat Singh's grandfather donated to the city of Shahpura their former City Palace, subject to the condition that it be used for educational purposes only. As is often the case in India, the government was not able to run a proper school, due to lack of funds. Therefore, the Singh family decided to open a private school in the premises to give free education to children from the Dalit and Bhil communities. Presently, 150 underprivileged children attend classes from grade nursery to 8th class. We decided to donate for the new school year, commencing on 1st July 2017, the school uniforms, shoes/socks, school bags, learning material, as well as writing pads and pencils for the 150 pupils. The yearly school fees for all children are fully assumed by the "Sudarshan Deo Charitable Trust".

150 Kits for Beginners

The costs incurred for ANSHULA are INR 300,000/CHF 4'550.00. The money is transferred to the "Sudarshan Deo Charitable Trust", which guarantees that the means are used for the specified purpose only.

June 6, 2017The following five girls are already at the Sambhali Boarding Home. As their former sponsors are no longer able to continue their financial support, the girls would have to be sent back to their villages in the Thar desert, or to the street. Thanks to the generous donation of the "Othmar Bamert-Stiftung" from Lucerne, ANSHULA can now finance their further stay at the Boarding Home and their basic schooling until completion of grade 12.

Leela Nayak, born 12 May, 2002 from Setrawa: Leela has two older and one younger brother. Her mother died when Leela was 4 years old. Her father, a truck driver, has meanwhile been infected with HIV. Semi-annual Report 2017

Looking back at the 1st half-year 2017ANSHULA is meanwhile known as a reliable and trustworthy institution in Jodhpur!Members of our partner organizations ask our advice when it comes to seeing things from a European perspective. We occasionally participate in Sambhali Staffmeetings to get a first-hand insight into the needs and sorrows of the women working in the empowerment centers. With our ANSHULA funds we were not only able to assist a considerable number of needy families, single women and children, but also to give them a reassuring feeling that members of the lowest castes are taken seriously as well.

Outlook for the 2nd half-year 2017In July, we are expecting to hear from the tax authorities in Zug on our request for tax exemption. We will inform our donors and sponsors in writing on the decision.

From mid-July until beginning of August, Silvia Kunz-Domenig will be in Switzerland to meet with potential sponsors to present two new, planned ANSHULA projects:

1. Foundation and construction of a school in the desert village of Talsar, District Barmer, Thar desert:- Talsar is a middle-sized desert village, situated roughly 10 km away from the Indian-Pakistani Border.

The existing government school is mostly closed due to lack of teachers and learning material. A large number of Dalit children are now idly sitting around but very eager to go to school….

2. Help to self-help at the private school in Shahpura, District Bhilwara, rural Rajasthan:- The school is in dire need of employing more and better teachers, and to upgrade and renovate the

existing equipment and school rooms. Adjacent to the school, there is a fairly large, unused area, which belongs to the school. The plan is to turn this unused plot of land into an "event ground" which can be rented out for weddings, festivals, etc. during non-school times. Wedding grounds are very sought after and there is no such ground existing in the entire area. The net income generated from the rentals would be used for the school in its entirety. Monitoring and supervision of the renovation, activities and the financials would be handled by Maya Singh of the Sudarshan Deo Trust, in close cooperation with ANSHULA.
