• REPORTING IN THE PUBLIC SECTOR

• THE AUDIT OFFICE APPROACH TO WORK HEALTH & SAFETY REPORTING

Marco MonacoAudit Leader, Audit Office of New South Wales

Marco will give an overview of the legislative framework for annual reporting in the New South Wales public sector and outline how WHS is managed in the Audit Office of NSW as good WHS reporting starts with a robust WHS function. This will include details of an active WHS Committee and the important functions this committee performs, and how WHS information is collected and reported through internal and external accountability mechanisms, including the annual report.

Marco Monarco is a Chartered Accountant with vast experience in reporting in the public sector. He has been with the Audit Office for 16 years and his roles now include Audit Manager and Chair of the Work, Health and Safety Committee. He is involved in data collection and analysis for the Audit office’s Annual Report.

The Audit Office of New South Wales has consistently received Gold Awards since 2007 and has twice won Report of the Year Award.

WHY IT IS IMPORTANT FOR NOT-FOR-PROFITS TO SUBMIT THEIR REPORTS FOR SCRUTINY AND BENCHMARKING

John Nicolades Chief Executive Officer, Bridge Housing

John Nicolades will talk about the importance of transparency and accountability in providing a core foundation upon which organisations, not for profit, government and private sector alike, are able to build on. Such a foundation is critical to securing a social licence to operate and maintain trust in an era when trust in institutions and organisations is steadily eroding.

John has extensive senior level experience in government and the not-for-profit sector. Since 2006, he has transformed Bridge Housing, a not-for-profit providing affordable accommodation for low and moderate-income people, by increasing its housing portfolio from 650 to more than 2000 properties and accommodating over 3,000 people; increasing staff from eight to 60; and growing turnover to $37M.

John believes transparent reporting is the basis of public accountability and trust. Bridge Housing commenced its transparency journey in 2011. Through continuous improvement in reporting it has achieved Gold Awards each year since 2013 and has twice been nominated for the ARA Report of the Year Award.

HOW TO MAKE THE TRANSITION FROM PRINTED TO ONLINE ANNUAL REPORTS

Marnie Reid Head of Shareholder Services, AMP Limited

‘Build it and they will come’ – is not always so with online reporting. How do you transition readers to give up the trusty printed report and go online? What are the challenges in getting the right balance between printed and online?

As Head of Shareholder Services for AMP Limited Marnie Reid has focussed on the many challenges of communicating with the third largest shareholder base in Australia for more than 15 years. Along the way she has worked on mergers, demergers, capital raisings, capital returns, share sales and twenty plus AGMs.

THE VALUE OF CORPORATE REPORTING

Dr Jeanne Ng Director Group Sustainability, CLP Power Hong Kong Limited

Securing and maintaining the trust of stakeholders is a key ingredient for business success. As the use of social media continues to expand, protecting a company’s reputation by publishing the factual version of challenges before others do is becoming increasingly important,. Done well, such corporate reporting in addition to reports on performance and achievements can increase brand value, and support internal communications.

Jeanne Ng. is responsible for sustainability-related strategy, reporting and communication for CLP Power Hong Kong Limited. She has more than 25 years experience in the environmental and sustainability fields and is a Board member of the International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC), a Stakeholder Council Member of ø the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and a member of other international advisory groups.

CLP Holdings first entered the ARA Awards in 2014 and won the Report of the Year Award as a first-time entrant. Since then CLP has received successive Gold Awards.
