Luke Kenley (R-Noblesville) was released Wednesday morning after being checked out at Methodist Hospital. On Tuesday he experienced dizziness while at the Statehouse. Kenley, one of the most influential members of the state legislature, has represented the Noblesville area for 24 years. He was back at work in the Senate on Wednesday. Laura Campbell, chairwoman of the Hamilton County Republican Party, announced Tuesday that she will run for re-election in the party's March 4 reorganization. She won the chairmanship last year in a bruising contest with Pete Peterson who is treasurer of the county GOP committee. There has been no indication that Peterson will try again for the county party's top spot. The popular Purdue Glee Club will perform January 20 in the Noblesville High School auditorium. The show begins at 7 p.m. The glee club has performed at numerous venues around the nation for 115 years. Musical selections range from contemporary hits to gospel, jazz and patriotic numbers. Hamilton County Commissioners this week approved a contract with United Consulting Engineers for inspection of all county bridges. The 2017-20 inspection period will tell officials which bridges are in need of repair or replacement. The regular periodic inspections are designed to catch problems before the motoring public is endangered by an unsafe bridge. Carmel's annual Taste of Chamber is scheduled for January 19 at the Ritz Charles banquet center. The event features food tasting from many of the 145 exhibitors. The popular community event runs from 4:30 through 7:30 p.m. Several Hamilton County residents will be attending the presidential inauguration January 20 in Washington. The Reporter would appreciate getting an emailed photo of local interest from anyone attending the ceremony, the parade or the Indiana ball. Noblesville Main Street's Second Saturday Songwriters Showcase is set for this Saturday, the 14th, at the Logan Street Sanctuary, 1274 Logan St. The concert begins at 7 p.m. Besides the musical presentations, there will be a raffle and light refreshments for guests and performers. Sen. Kenley back at work after hospitalization Green Circle Health, a provider of health care management and wellness platforms designed to empower families to make healthier lifestyle decisions and improve outcomes, announced plans to locate its Client Services Center in Carmel, creating up to 125 new jobs by 2022. “Green Circle Health had its choice of many states to locate its new Client Services Center, but it chose Indiana for a reason,” said Governor Eric Holcomb. “Over the last decade, Indiana has built the most affordable, growth-oriented business climate in the country. As a result, tech-enabled health firms like Green Circle Health are thriving in Indiana, taking full advantage of Hoosiers’ education, skills and drive for innovation. It’s only fitting that Green Circle Health joins this growing industry here in Indiana, and we welcome them.” The Pensacola, Florida-based company will invest nearly $1 million to lease and furnish office space in Indiana over the next five years. The company opened an initial 1,000-square-foot office at 9640 Commerce Drive in Carmel on Jan. 1 and plans to expand its footprint as its Indiana team grows. Clinical professionals at the company’s Client Services Center will provide remote health care and coaching for GCH Platform users anywhere in the U.S., helping improve the coordination of care and treatment of chronic disease and illness. Through the tracking and analysis of users’ medical records and real-time health data, the GCH Platform is designed to help people use one platform to make informed decisions to lead healthier lives. I dare say that Coach Wooden’s advice is pertinent to any change of life plans including relationships, profession, financial stability, and for the purpose of this article, a wellness lifestyle. As most of us are aware, the fitness centers are packed right now; people are waiting to get on the stair machine! The grocery and drug stores have their diet supplements on the endcaps or in the aisle, and if you watch anything on TV other than TCM or PBS, you have seen the MANY commercials for dietary eating plans. it comes to making real positive changes inyour fitness and wellness pursuits

The most effective starting point to makedietary and fitness changes which will resultin a healthier more energetic life is ldquoReviewand Resolverdquo in my opinion I have workedwith many clients in their quest to reach theiroptimum health and fitness levels and I findthat those who use the ldquoR and Rrdquo methodare most successful So letrsquos take a look atwhat that involves

Although it is sometimes uncomfortableto ldquoreviewrdquo the past year and how we maynot have incorporated a proper fitnessregimen or concentrated on eating the mostnutritionally balanced diet that is anecessary part of a program to makemeaninful changes which will benefit ourhealth An honest assessment of those items

will help motivate us toward healthychanges The Review also enables us toldquoresolverdquo to make any changes necessary toreach our goals Remember that goals arenever ldquoblack and whiterdquo as you may reachsome of the goals and not others or you maychange those goals somewhere in the middleI firmly believe that a primary reason thatwe as Americans are overweight and oftenunhealthy is that we give up when our goalsare not met to complete satisfactionSometimes we need to step back take a deepbreath and continue on one step at a time

Before you begin any fitness routine ormake significant dietary changes pleaseconsult your physician or licensed medicaladvisor If you are pre-diabetic you needto know that and if you have acute orchronic pain or discomfort issues those mustbe addressed After you have had awellness assessment by your physicanbegin planning your wellness path whichincludes stretching and flexibility strengthtraining and aerobic activity Most of us donot follow the most appropriate mealplanning for our nutritional needs Just asan athlete needs a coach to reach their goalsa certified fitness and nutrition coach canassist you in reaching yours an investmentthat will provide a healthy return

Forecasts are predicting a variety ofweather conditions across the state throughthis weekend including the possibility offreezing rain and ice Ice accumulationcould be as much as a tenth of an inch insome areas creating hazardous drivingconditions

A few degrees can mean the differencebetween rain or snow so freezing rain andice can be difficult for forecasters topinpoint far in advance

Yellow salt trucks readyThe Indiana Department of

Transportation will continue monitoringmultiple weather forecasts and readyingyellow salt trucks to treat interstates UShighways and state routes

If a storm is predicted lead off withfrost or other freezing weather INDOTsprays a saltwater brine as pre-treatmentIf a storm is predicted to lead off with rainsalt trucks will treat the roads just beforepavement temperatures fall below freezingand the snow and ice begin to accumulate

Using granulated salt allows fortraction while also grinding the salt intothe road so that it can melt the ice Eachroute takes 2-3 hours to complete with saltassisting in melting between passes

Know before you goThe state of Indiana and National

Weather Service provide drivers with anumber of tools to make safe informedtravel decisions Check daily hourly andgraphical weather forecasts by zooming inand clicking on destinationsat httpdigitalweathergov

Before deciding to drive check roadand traffic conditionsat httpindotcarsprogramorg 800-261-ROAD (7623) or by turning on the trafficfeature on a mobile mapping app Countygovernments post color-coded traveladvisories on the Homeland Securitywebsite at httpingovdhstraveladvisoryFor regular updates find links to INDOTrsquosFacebook and Twitter pagesat httpbitlyINDOTsocial

Driver tipsFreezing rain and ice are the most

dangerous of all winter road conditionsbecause it affects all vehicle sizes andtypes including those with four-wheeldrive and INDOTs own salt trucks Inthese types of conditions motorists arestrongly encouraged to stay off the roadsto allow access for salt trucks andemergency vehicles

Here are several steps that drivers cantake to minimize the risk of losing controlon icy roads

Consult hourly weather forecasts andschedule high-speed and long-distancetrips during the warmer hours of the dayThis will help save the extra time neededto slow down and drive according to theconditions

Monitor current air temperatures andslow down if conditions are near or below

freezing Watch how salt trucksemergency vehicles and other drivers areresponding to the weather

Apply anti-lock brakes firmly whenencountering ice Pump brakes that are notanti-lock Do not overcorrect with steering

Flooding ConcernsThis system coupled with rainy conditionsthroughout this week may also createflooding issues statewide If you encountera road thatrsquos flooded turn around and findan alternate route Never drive through asfloodwaters can hide a washed outroadway or cause your vehicle to float andbe carried into deeper waters

Increased Likelihood of PotholesAfter winter temperatures rise above

freezing motorists are more likely toencounter potholes on the roadwaysPotholes form when water seeps intocracks on the roadway freezes and then

thaws This process combined withnormal highway traffic loosens thepavement creating potholes

INDOT makes pothole patching apriority between snow and ice eventsDuring the winter months asphalt plantsare closed so a cold mixture is used totemporarily patch holes until a permanentpatch can be made in the warmer monthsEven after being filled with cold patch thesame pothole requires ongoingmaintenance and can reopen several timesthroughout the winter

To report a pothole on a numbered stateroute interstate or US highway contactyour regional INDOT district or follow theldquoReport a Concernrdquo linkat httppotholesindotingov Forpotholes on city streets or county roadsplease contact the proper city or countymaintenance department

Carmel Caffeine Trail amp Gallery Walk on January 14
