Our Newsletter
Just a few bits of information:
1. On those occasions like Super Thursday and spaghetti dinners when the front parking lot is crowded,
you are more than welcome to use the lot off of Route 83. It’s really just a short walk to come around the south side
of the building and get to the main door.
2. SNOW POLICY: We are not out of the woods yet. Just a reminder when the North Ridgeville City
Schools are closed due to inclement weather, so are activities, Meals-On-Wheels and transportation
programs at the Senior Center. The staff is still here if you have any questions or need anything.
3. We can still use some advertisers for our newsletter. If you or someone you know is interested,
please contact Julien Perez, Community Ad Sales Exec. at Liturgical Publications. Phone: (956) 578-1780
or via email: [email protected].
Thank you for all your support!

THOUGHTS FROM RITA
In reading my article from last year, I talked about the need for our building to have a back-up
generator in case the power goes out for whatever reason. Well, thanks to a grant from a
Community Development Block Grant for over $40,000 and another $11,000 from the City
of North Ridgeville, our generator was installed late last year.
We are also waiting for our new van which arrives this summer. The van is made possible
from a grant in the amount of almost $50,000 from the Northeast Ohio Areawide
Coordinating Agency and another $5,000 from North Ridgeville Seniors, Inc. We are truly
grateful to both organizations for their generosity.
It’s nice to have this good news to share and to see the progress we are making here at the
Senior Center, especially by utilizing grants to help with the funding. But we have a lot of
other things planned for 2018 including many activities and events for you all to enjoy.
In keeping with health and exercise, there are several programs planned in the next few
months to keep everyone thinking healthy! Last May we did a special “Spa Day” and we
continue with that same thought as we have a “Mini Spa Day” planned for April 30. Please
read the newsletter to keep updated on all our plans and activities. It will be a busy spring!
My update
As you all know, I have been battling cervical cancer since September of last year when it was
first diagnosed. In the fall I did rounds of treatment with radiation and chemotherapy. In early
February we found out the cancer had spread to my intestines and a small nodule on my liver.
I had not started the chemotherapy yet so they planned an aggressive routine with 6 rounds of
chemo, once every three weeks. Instead of using two types of chemo they bumped it to three.
My husband and I were concerned that, while we want to kill the cancer, it may be too much
chemo for me. Kitty suggested I get a second opinion, so I contacted Cancer Treatment
Centers of America to get some information. They responded so quickly and within a week
were flying Bill and I out there for a consultation. We loved the place, the doctor was terrific
and everyone who worked there seemed special. While their original treatment plan is the
same as Cleveland Clinic, they explained in more detail what they would do if chemo didn’t
work and had alternative plans. On February 16, I was back at CTCA and started my first
round of chemo. Please continue the prayers which I appreciate so much. Your kind words,
thoughts and prayers are what helps to get me through and means the world to me. In the
meantime, I will continue to keep everyone updated and I hope you all have a very happy
spring! It’s just around the corner!
Lastly, we haven’t forgotten about our annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon, but we have
postponed it until the Fall. We will keep all our volunteers posted once we have a date.
All my love, prayers and God’s Blessings to all of you! Love, Rita

will have opened for business. Another planned commercial project on Lorain Road at the
southeast corner of Bagley Road is an assisted living and independent living facility.

units of assisted living and memory care. An additional 69 units, three-story building, will be
dedicated to independent living. A total of 80 full-time equivalent employees are expected as
a result of this project.
Another proposed project is North Coast Architects representing Progressive North
Ridgeville Real Estate LLC is proposing an 85,370 square-foot nursing home and
rehabilitation center. The Avenue at North Ridgeville Nursing Home and Rehabilitation
Center will be built on Lear Nagle Road, north of Washington. The plan includes 103 private
resident suites and three court yards. The new facility will house approximately 100
employees.
Also in the works is RLG Cleveland, Rudolph Libbe Group, acquired a 44,000 square-foot

New Website: www.westshoreseniors.org
Eight Westshore senior centers (including North Ridgeville) have joined forces with the Center
For Aging in the Digital World to create a “one-stop” website for seniors. These eight
community senior centers have formed a strong collaborative relationship in their efforts to
provide quality services and programs to older adults in their communities. Community West
Foundation also supported this worthwhile idea and presented the group with the funding to
get their dream started. Once funding was in place, the group organizers were excited to work
with the web designer to create an original and unique collaborative website. This provides the
platform for future services as senior centers evolve and continue to meet the needs of our
aging population. I welcome you to explore this innovative and informative website at:
