FERPA WAIVER SURVEY

○ Will have to do additional FERPA waivers for Common App, and maybe for other individual colleges

○ To Waive or Not to Waive?○ Colleges tend to prefer that you waive your right—it

indicates that you are comfortable with your recommenders being honest about you!

○ Many teachers will not agree to send letters unless you waive your right!

document called Common App FAQ’s○ Provides a breakdown with answers to some of the

most commonly asked questions about the Common App

COLLEGE PROCESSING FORM○ TRANSCRIPT FEES MUST

BE PAID AT THE TIME OF REQUEST!

○ Form used to request transcripts, letters of recommendation, and other required documents to be sent to a specific college

○ Complete and turn into Counseling office NO LATER THAN 10 school days prior to deadline

○ Make sure you indicate deadlines on the form

MID-YEAR TRANSCRIPTS/REPORTS○ Mid-Year Reports and Mid-Year Transcripts will

be sent automatically once first semester grades are finalized

FINAL TRANSCRIPT REQUEST/ GRADUATION SURVEY○ Complete Graduation Survey to request that a

Final Transcript is sent to the college you have decided to attend

○ If Graduation Survey is not completed, Final Transcript will not be sent, and you will not be able to enroll in college until it is received

○ Graduation survey will be available in late spring through Naviance

FINANCIAL AID/SCHOLARSHIPS○ October 1, 2016: FAFSA becomes available for the

2016/2017 school year○ Free Application for Federal Student Aid○ Required for all federal money (grants and loans), and

most schools require it to be completed for any financial aid

○ Will need parent tax information from Tax Year 2015○ Financial Aid Night: 10/6/16○ 2 FAFSA help nights: 1 in fall and 1 in spring

○ Colleges may also have additional financial aid forms to complete

○ Pay attention to college’s financial aid priority deadlines!

SEARCH FOR SCHOLARSHIPS○ Be sure to apply to the college before their scholarship/financial aid

consideration deadline!○ Use a financial calculator to determine Expected Family Contribution

collegeboard.org, finaid.com), and Naviance○ Look for sources particular to your family or area of study (employers,

organizations, family history, associations)○ Set up an appointment with the College Now representative (Fridays

beginning in October)○ Don’t ignore the local scholarships!

FOR ATHLETES○ Talk with your coach if you are being recruited by

colleges for athletic scholarships○ Register with NCAA and/or NAIA Eligibility Centers○ Add NCAA Eligibility Center and/or NAIA Eligibility

Center to Naviance (Colleges I’m thinking about)▪ This allows counselors to send your documents

electronically○ Complete the College Processing Form for

NCAA/NAIA in order to request transcripts or other documents this year
