Welcome to the 3rd Quarter! There are still things to
complete in the college admissions process. Here are a few
things you should do this month:
Contact your colleges and confirm that all necessary
application materials have been received.
Continue to perform well in school and don't get
senioritis; colleges want to see strong second-
semester grades.
If you are in any AP classes, register for the AP Exams
given in May.
Guidance needs your college acceptance and
scholarship letters. Don’t forget to see Mrs. Beklian in
the guidance office regarding this.

The more unique the scholarship is, the less likely there
will be many students applying for it. Therefore, your chances
of winning are greater. This month’s Senior Newsletter
highlights unique scholarships. If you are very tall, or are a
vegetarian, care about climate change, or if you can create a
video on how to reduce waste in your community, you may be
able to win a scholarship! As you search, be careful not to

Molloy College Freshman Scholarships
Molloy College Humanities Scholarship
Award Amount: up to $5,000
Deadline: February 8, 2020

Description: The aim of this scholarship is to offer financial support to incoming freshmen and
to encourage dedicated and deserving students to further their studies in other cultures and
languages and/or in the Humanities in general.

Molloy College Community Service Award
Award Amount: Partial Tuition

Description: Awards ranging from partial to full tuition scholarships for entering full-time

National Co-Op Scholarship Program
Award Amount: up to $30,000
Deadline: February 15, 2020 (Please note deadline exceptions for certain schools.)

Description: This year, through the National Co-op Scholarship Program, we will award 175
merit scholarships totaling $4.5 million. Students who are applying to one of the ten institutions
listed in the scholarship brochure (Clarkson University, Drexel University, Johnson & Wales
University, Merrimack College, Rochester Institute of Technology, State University of New
York Oswego, The University of Toledo, University of Cincinnati and University of
Massachusetts Lowell) can apply for one of these scholarships simply by visiting our website,
www.waceinc.org, and completing an online version of the form or by completing and mailing
the form included in the scholarship brochure (available in the Guidance Department).

Have conducted a formal interview with their Full Sail Admissions Representative
and submitted their application for admission by Monday, March 11, 2020
Have completed and submitted the official Creative Minds scholarship application to
Full Sail University via the applicant’s Launch website by Monday, April 8, 2020
The scholarship application will be made available to eligible applicants upon receipt
of enrollment application on or before March 11, 2020.

Vegetarian Resource Group Scholarship
Award Amount: up to $10,000

Description: The Vegetarian Resource Group each year will award $20,000 in college
scholarship money to graduating U.S. high school students who have promoted vegetarianism in
their schools and/or communities. Vegetarians do not eat meat, fish, or fowl. Vegans are
vegetarians who do not use other animal products such as dairy or eggs.

Description: Kae Sumner Einfeldt, founder of Tall Clubs International, Inc. had dreams of
creating an organization that would promote causes that benefit tall people. In 1992, one of those
dreams became a reality in the creation of the Tall Clubs International Foundation, Inc.
Each year this organization receives nominations from participating affiliate Tall Clubs
throughout North America. From this pool of nominations, the recipients are selected to receive
scholarship awards from Tall Clubs International and TCI Foundation, Inc.

Island Christian Church

Description: Island Christian Church wishes to promote genuine character development in the
youth of our community. While the church has a very active youth ministry and outreach, it is

Heritage Scholarship is awarded to two graduating seniors, one male and one female, for Long

Description: The Firemen’s Association of the State of New York Scholarship Advisory
Committee will award 20 $1,500 scholarships to high school seniors entering college. The
awards recognize exemplary members of the youth fire service who also contribute to their

member
Attend high school as a senior who is enrolled in the fall 2020 school year at an

Stephen T. Dooley Community Service Award

Description: Stephen Dooley was the president of the organization, a highly respected insurance
professional and very active in his community. As a result of his death from cancer in 2005, Tri
County established an ongoing scholarship in his memory, in the areas he cherished and worked

Description: In 2017, the BP Community Scholarship Program has garnered the support of
nearly 400 local station owners and operators through their participation, support of fundraising

The Bambino Scholarship
Award Amount: up to $5,000

Description: The Bambino Scholarship is available to a special education student who is college
bound. The goal of this scholarship is to reward a student who has worked through his or her
special challenges to complete high school and gain acceptance into a college or university. The
scholarship is in memory of Cristin Ann Bambino. Cristin was a special education student who
persevered through many obstacles and earned a Bachelor’s degree and a paralegal Certificate
before her untimely passing.
Requirements:
Applicants for this scholarship must complete an essay, not to exceed 650 words, that
addresses the following topics:
o The student’s accomplishments (clubs, athletics, volunteer activities and
academic achievements);
o Examples of how the student overcame his or her challenges;
o How the student can serve as a role model for other young people with special
challenges; and
o What the student will study in college
Greater Long Island Running Club 2019 Herb Grayson Memorial Scholarship

Description: The Herb Grayson Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to one or more
graduating high school seniors chosen on the basis of involvement in service to the Long Island
running community.

The Jensen Scholarship

Description: The Jensen Scholarship is available to a student who has excelled in design in his
or her high school career. The goal of this scholarship is to reward a student who has shown
interest and promise in design and who wishes to pursue this path in college. The scholarship is
in memory of Paul Jensen, a marketing representative for NYSIR. Paul was a great craftsman,
able to evaluate the best functional attributes of multiple designs then converted them to sailing
canoes and then adapted a commercial roof rack to transport the canoes.
Requirements:
Applicants for this scholarship must complete an essay, not to exceed 650 words, that
explains:
o A way they would design, or adapt an existing design, for a specific purpose;
o How this design or adaptation could be accomplished;
o Why this design, or adaptation, would be unique
o Schematics or drawings are not required but may be attached to the essay to
help explain the design or adaptation

Description: The LI2Day Scholarship, supported by the LI2Day Walk, was established to
recognize the profound effect of breast cancer on a family. Nearly $200,000 in scholarships has
been awarded since 2005. The LI2Day Scholarship is designed to provide a one-time award of
$2,500 to a high school senior who resides with a parent or guardian who is a survivor of breast
cancer and/or other women’s cancer or resided with a parent or guardian who has passed from
breast cancer and/or other women’s cancer.
Requirements:
A resident of Nassau or Suffolk County, New York
A graduating senior, and
Have applied and received acceptance to either a two- or four-year College or
University, and
Reside with a parent or guardian who is a survivor of breast cancer and/or other
women’s cancer or resided with a parent or guardian who passed from breast cancer
and/or other women’s cancer
The Maria A. Sciara Scholarship
Award Amount: $2,000
Deadline: April 1, 2020

Description: The Maria A. Sciara Scholarship, administered by the LI2Day Walk, is designed to
provide a one-time award of $2,000 to a high school senior who resides with a parent or guardian
who is a survivor of cancer or has resided with a parent or guardian who has passed from cancer
(other than breast cancer or other women’s cancer). Aspiring teachers will be given extra
consideration, but it is no longer the criteria to apply for the scholarship.

Description: The Paradigm Challenge is an annual competition that inspires youth to use STEM
skills plus kindness, creativity and collaboration to make a difference. The 2019-20 Challenge
aims to generate new ideas to reduce waste in homes, schools, communities and around the
world. Entries of all types are accepted – posters, videos, inventions, public messages,
community events, websites, mobile apps, or anything else that will help reduce waste.
