Dad 1 s an absent-minded professorwho spends all his time gazing at the stars through a telescope. Jerry the eldest daughter,is following rightin her father's footsteps; while Donna is a budding writer. Beth is Donna's best friend, who is remotely interested in Bill, Donna's brother. Grumbling Izzy, the maid, is dis­gusted with the hectic household she is working in. The tun begins when Dick Mallon, a Big League baseball player, comes back to his home town for a visit. He brings with him a movie star friend, Joan Mayberry, who he is supposed to be engaged to, and their agent, Joe Alcott. Donna and Beth, with reluctant help of Bill, try to renew a romance that once budded between Dick and Jerry. After a few failures, Dick finds out what they are up to. He likes the plan and helps them to accanplish it.
