Reservation in Appointment:Constitutional Provisions

Articles 16(4),335,341 and 342 of the constitution providefor reservation in services in favour of the members ofScheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and othersocially and Educationally Backward Classes.

Article 16(4A) of the Constitution provides forreservation,in the matter of promotion in favour of theSCs and STs.

Article 16(4B) provides that the backlog and/or carriedforward vacancies would be treated separately and shallnot be subject to the ceiling of 50% reservation.
