Seniors’ Week: Try something sensational
When Pat and Terry Kelly started to think aboutretirement, they knew there were some bigdecisions to be made. They’d made the move to amanor house in Port Macquarie from WaggaWagga in 2000, but began to realise they wantedsomething low-maintenance, which would allowthem to pursue their hobbies.
“We realised that getting old was not meant tobe about gardening and polishing things,” saysPat.
“There are so many better things to do,particularly around the Mid North Coast. It’sgreatest benefit, apart from being beautiful andhaving lovely beaches, is it has quite the mostremarkable climate. “
As they began to look at gated communitiesalong the coast of NSW, one in particular caughttheir eye. Ocean Club Resort, Lake Cathie’saward-winning over-50’s community, had most of
the facilities built before the construction of free-standing homes began, and that was somethingthe couple loved.
“Normally it goes the other way, for financialreasons,” Pat says.
“So we found that quite amazing.”Pat and Terry moved into their two-bedroom
home last September, and they haven’t lookedback. Pat says the multi-purpose media roommakes a fantastic study, and the gardens andproperty exterior are all maintained for them. Withaccess to the gym, 25m heated pool, tennis court, and multi-million dollar clubhouse, as well as theresort’s many other facilities, the Kelly’s can joininto as many activities as they like.
“We have made lots of decisions in our lives,”Pat says.
“This is simply, the best decision we have evermade.”
